Place is dirtyish & run down. Waitress VERY slow to come to our table. $ 20 large pizza. It was very good but I don’t know about $ 20 good. Restaurant could really use an upgrade & new paint. Was very noisy but they can’t help that, it was a packed Saturday night.

Yes it’s the real deal, some great pizza, it was a hit. The deep dish, with that crispy crunchy crust that’s a little bit of burnt that your looking for, the place is kind of divey but the pizza is top notch, and the services is also very good. If you want some excellent deep dish pie, look no further than Loui’s.

Went here for the first time on Sat. The pizza was very good… rich and chewy and very«heavy» After the salad I had 2 pieces and was full! I could have had another but the pizza had to weigh 6 ounces a slice. If deep dish style pizza is your thing this is the place to go.

So good. Loved the décor made up of thousands of Chianti bottles. Loved the food, the service, everything. I thought it was just as good as the OG Buddy’s(really this calls for a head-to-head pizza off). I don’t go to Hazel Paek often, but this spot is reason enough. Gooey with the cheese caramelized near the crust. Antipasto salad was basically just hunks of meat and cheese, but I was into it. If you’re into Detroit-style ‘za, definitely check this place out.

Lots of cheese on these pizzas. Ours was quite good. Two old guys thought we could share a large(deep dish pan) pizza; but we could only eat half. It was quite good, better than any chain restaurant pizzas. It’s a reasonably large place with a bar, kind of fun; very middle class. The neighborhood is a little gritty, but Loui’s is worth visiting. My brother said they’re closed on Mondays and Tuesdays.

This is about as close as you can get to perfection. When your at this level it comes down to pure individual technique and personal taste! This pizza is amazing and it had the perfect Detroit Crust! I mean really, give me a pizza with nothing but crust and I’m in! Great family spot, will definitely go back for 2nds!

Old school Detroit pizza parlor and restaurant. Wonderful for families and in a major showdown with Buddy’s, Loui’s gets a slight nod… Don’t come here for you fancy nancy all bread artisan pizzas. Sicilian style pan pizza at it’s best and a family friendly atmosphere. Don’t sleep on the Greek salad!

I was pointed in this deliciously cheesy direction by my fellow Unilocalers. This is a whimsical sit down pizzeria with Chianti bottle décor and a decided set of regulars. The menu is fairly basic but heck you’re here for pizza(and maybe a little salad)! We started with a Greek salad that was well put together if a bit aggressively salted. The large pizza had a beautiful crust with bits of cheese sticking to the edges, and so so much cheese in general that it was a bit overwhelming(in a good way!). We had about half of this goodness left over at the end of our meal. The pizza didn’t warm up well the next day, however, so I would advise you to eat it to your hearts content while you are at the restaurant itself. Some things that were not great were the up charge for the use of credit cards and some generally off service overall. It’s not an inexpensive proposition, but it is perfect for those stuff your face with pizza goodness kind of indulgence days that we all have.

The best square pizza anywhere and the finest creation of the man behind a few other great pizzas in town. He saved the best one for the place that bears his name.

I went to dinner with my family on Sunday night and everything was delicious. The only reason I’m marking off one star is because the anitpasto salad which was delicious by the way, didn’t have any many toppings as I would like. And the pizza crust was slightly difficult to cut through, but that was because of how wonderfully it was cooked. I love a crispy crust. We added mushrooms and banana peppers to the Hawaiian and it was great! We split a four square along with the individual antipasto salad and a side order of four meatballs. Those come in marinara and everything was great! I will say that it reminds me a lot of buddy’s pizza, but definitely less greasy. Thumbs up to Loui’s Pizza!

We grew up on the other side of town, so Loui’s was just a legend… until recently. Dare I say we prefer it to Buddy’s? The place is a dive, with autographed jugs of wine hanging from the ceiling. I went in on a Friday night for the first time and had a hard time finding parking. I get the sense that if you frequent Loui’s, it’s the place were everyone knows your name. We’ve only gotten carry out, but the pizza is on one of the best«Detroit style» pizzas we’ve ever had. Heat it up in the oven for a few and it gets even better. The Greek salad is decent and fresh, but gets soggy quickly whether or not it is exposed to the heat of the pizza. Eat the salad first and save the leftover pizza for breakfast

I’ve been coming here since high school. We always came here after high school football games. Great family restaurant with the original recipe for Detroit style pizza. The antipasto is also to die for. Very relaxed atmosphere with wait staff that has worked here for decades. Just a great place to hang out with friends and eat some great pizza and antipasto.

My whole life this place has sat here, and it isn’t until I’m in my 40s I actually eat there. I’m ashamed of myself for this, but considering how crowded it is, I guess that’s my excuse. I may blaspheme a bit by saying that I think Buddy’s Pizza is better, BUT Loui’s is a close second. I can only say, don’t be like me and wait 40 some years to come and eat here. Especially if you live in the area!

Completely ignore the *shrugs* and lukewarm reviews. If I end up having to choose a last meal, this is it. Not pizza — Loui’s Pizza. For several years, I thought it might be neck-and-neck between Buddy’s and Loui’s, but no more. Loui’s is better than advertised. *NOTE: If you like«cracker pizza», aka thin-crust, without sauce and cheese, you probably won’t enjoy Loui’s as much as I. That’s OK, it’s a personal preference thing. But for«Detroit-Style» pie, don’t bother with anything else.

*shrug* I apologize but I also do not get the fuss. I waited forever, my service was rather unpleasant, interior was dive’y and prices high. The pizza was very good but not better than suppino’s. I think that for the wait, price, dealing with poor service and the atmosphere this isn’t worth it. Perhaps I set myself some high expectations but after 40min in queue you kind of do: P I’d skip it

I’m absolutely in love with their homemade dressing for their antipasto salad. It is by far the best salad I’ve ever had in any restaurant! Their pizza isn’t the bestest tasting maybe because it’s more cheese then sauce, but hey some people like that. I don’t mind it however, because it’s definitely quality, and I appreciate it. I do wish they had more pasta dishes available, that would give us vegetarians more things to try on the menu! On to the décor, I have to say, there’s something about the little bottled lights that makes it feel so romantic. I definitely think it’s a perfect place to take your significant other.

There is a reason why this place has so many stars and so many reviews, it get no better for Detroit Style deep dish square pizza. The inside is Detroit style as well, décor unchanged but not in a bad way. it is like being someone’s basement from the 60’s here. The pizza is great, crunchy crusts of cheese. The antipasto salads set the standard anywhere around and are a must with any pizza. Expect a line on the evening weekends, for a good reason. Great place to take an out of towner if you can make the drive there. Buddy’s is a close second in my book for pizza.

Loui’s rounds out my SE Michigan Top 5 Pizza Best Pizza category. If you like«Detroit Style Pizza», then let me introduce to you the place that puts on the boots and kicks Buddy’s a$$. It won’t wow you like the ambiance of Café Cortina, or offer you dinner music like Andiamos in Warren, or remind you in any way of Tuscany. Hell man, this is good old fashioned, blue-collar Detroit, east-side«EYE-talian» food. Old school in just about every way from the waitresses who have been here 25+ years to the scores of empty Chianti bottles hanging just about everywhere you eye look. They make everything in house except lasagna which I find weird. You’ll want to start with the antipasto salad with their homemade dressing which for some reason is better than just about anywhere else. The meat dumplings that are in the soup, ravioli and tortellini are all homemade. The meatballs are excellent but you came for pizza. Very much like Buddy’s with the thicker pan crust and corners. You can order extra cheese but I think the vast amount that comes on it is just fine. Keep it simple here so that it cooks right by limited the number of toppings you order on it. We get half cheese and half sausage. Truly one of Detroit’s best. Kids get free ice cream. The only knock against this place is that parking is at a premium. Loui’s packs them in and the lot and street parking get occupied early. If you have to, park in the credit union parking lot across the street after 6PM. Heads up though, the Dequindre traffic neither stops nor yields for pedestrians. J-walk at your own risk.
