I usually get off work at 12 a.m. everytime I come to Steak N Shake in Hazelwood Missouri there’s a cashier that works the drive thru very slow and nasty on February the 17th at 4 o’clock a.m. I pulled in the driveway to order me some food the cashier drafting lady said hold on I’m in the restroom using it right now I thought that was so nasty and unprofessional she could have said just hold on I just drove away and will not never return to that restaurant again Steak and Shake every time this lady work the drive thru she’s very slow and rude

If you enjoy waiting 30+ minutes for a milkshake with no crowd. Employees are incompetent and apathetic.

Our family usually loves your restaurant but for some reason, this particular location/store quality of service and food has really gone down hill!!! This has been going on for couple months now. Drive thrus act like you are a burden, acknowledgement in the restaurant doesn’t exist, and available selections of food seem to run out! Now I used to work in the service industry so I get all the negative/positive aspects of running a restaurant. It can be very stressful. But I have to question whether it’s the management or employees. Each person must create a positive environment which will enable for things to run smoothly. You can’t get mad at the staff if they aren’t trained properly. But if the employee is just lazy and not respecting the fact they have a job, get rid of them!!! I bet if this can get resolved, this particular location can get back the public it deserves!

I visit this particular location at least once a month; either by drive through or dine in. As a semi-fast food restarant goes, this is pretty standard. Food quality, temperature and taste is always the same, that I have noticed. The staff, particularly in the drive-thru during rush/lunch hour is usually very impressive. Although I know they are inundated with guests, the drive through has never failed me. The attendant is very nice and works very quickly. I have never had an issue with my order either by dine in or by drive through. More often than not, I order from the $ 4 menu. They’ve recently added more options so its affordable and a good variety of choices. The only negative issue I would point out is that this location does not have the online /app ordering. Well, I can say that with all uncertainty. I have noticed that I cannot use my smartphone ap to order and pay before ariving. I know it must work as they have the app avaialble. However, every time I go through the motions to order via my smartphone, it tells me ‘this location is not avaialble for smartphone ordering’. Not sure what’s up with that. But overall, if you want a hot meal, not too long of a wait and tasty(by Steak ‘n Shake standards), you won’t be disappointed.

Went there this morning, ordered biscuits and gravy with an egg on top. I think it was the worst gravy I have ever had, couldn’t even eat it. Money wasted threw it away.

Sat in line for 20 minutes… just to have horrible food and unfriendly person at the window.

The worst Steak ‘n Shake in Saint Louis. First, let’s start with the good. The waitress was nice. The end! Nobody likes a dirty cup of ice water. I noticed some floaties while I took a sip from the glass. Next was my shake, the main reason I went to steak n shake. I asked for a shake with snickers, caramel, and hot fudge. When I received my shake, they didn’t give me any caramel or fudge. On top of that it was butterfingers, not snickers. Even my friend got the wrong shake. I waited for the waitress to come back to switch out my shake but she never returned. We decided it was time to go. At the checkout… worst and I mean worst manager I have ever encountered. She had a dead look on her face, didn’t even ask how our meal was. I told her the problem with my shake and asked her for a new one. At this point my shake was already melted down, she asked me «all you want is fudge and caramel?» I said yes. She went to the back in which I believed she was bringing me a new shake only to have her return with my melted shake with just caramel and fudge on top. The shake was one thing I was upset about. But the manager was the worst manager I have ever experienced. That’s the thing. A good manager, but a bad leader.

I’m going with three stars. Let me start with what I thought was positive. The waitress and staff are polite. And that goes a long way toward the experience. The food was well prepared and up to its usual standards. The time it took to get the meal is another matter. I know it’s not McDonalds and they aren’t going to have the order in 90 seconds but within 15 – 20 minutes would have been nice. Also, the portion of the fries you get with your burger is pretty small. Overall, I’d say that I would return here again.

Piss poor service. Sat down and waited to be served for 20 mins and still counting. Waitress literally walked by several times without saying a word or even an acknowledgement. Also included here are dirty tables, napkins all over the floor, and missing place mats. With only six tables the staff should be able to clean, at least give some drinks. This place is great for low-standard mgmt, careless service, and an unkempt environment.

I love the garlic parm steak burger and the banana milk shake. They have a triple cheese steak burger and that one was really good too.

Someone mentioned it in a comment earlier but this isn’t the cleanest Steak ‘n Shake I have ever been to. The staff was welcoming and very rapid for the lunch hour. The thing that was the worst for me was the floors. They look as though they haven’t been cleaned in awhile. Actual food was typical Steak ‘n Shake quality. No shocker there. I did like how or waitress repeated our order back to us before she entered it in.

I rarely review a fast food restaurant but I couldn’t resist just because of my drive through experience! I came through the drive through on a Sunday afternoon to grab a salted caramel shake and satisfy my shake deficiency. The crew working the drive through was the most polite and friendly I have ever met. They were clear over the intercom and very considerate! Hats off to the team. Oh and the milk shake… Mmmmmmmm!

Me and my husband stopped at howdershell steak and shake on Saturday. Never again I was so disappointed in service and care we were shown. Took 4 minutes to get seated with 3 waitress behind soda bar chatting only 10 other customers in whole restraunat so wasn’t due to packed house. Food was ok but to get a refill I had to take a go cup no one ever cared once we we’re served. I always leave a tip but my god wake up and get someone in there that wants a job.

Depending on who you get, the service can be horrible, took 20 minutes to get cold French fries and luke warm chicken fingers. I am 0 for 2 at this place, I won’t be back.

Steak and shake has the best pancakes going and trust me, I know pancakes. All you can eat for $ 3.99? Yes please! Plus they have some serious rockin tennesee pride sausage! My wife loves the choc chip pancakes. We go every Saturday morning. Ask for Melissa or Amy, they will take good care of you!

Not the cleanest S&S I’ve ever been to, but the waitresses are phenomenal at keeping up with the busy lunch rush. I’ll take sticky floors over a 2 hour wait any day. Do yourself a favor. Go. Order the Frito’s Chili Cheese Steakburger. Thank me later.

Sounds like a sick joke of a name. Steak n Shake has always been around since I can remember back in STL. It all started in Illinois in 1934. The part of the name ‘Steak’ comes from the steakburgers they serve here. The ‘Shake’ part comes from the real milk hand dipped shakes that bring all the boys to the yard. These chain restaurants are modeled after old fashioned diners. You get to sit in booths, get real plates, real silverware, and servers wear old diner style clothes.(imagine west coast’s Ruby’s diner). Best thing about this place besides the artery clogging food is that it’s open 24 hours a day! Which brings me to my glory days when my friends and I would drink until 2am in St. Louis then cross the Illinois border to keep drinking because their bar time is 4am THEN back to the STL border for good late night eats. Things to avoid: caesar salad and baked beans. Things with total AWESOMEness on the menu: Steakburger, chili, shoestring fries, milkshakes, malts, taco salad, any melts, biscuits and gravy, and the CHILIMAC5-WAY!!! SOOooooo good. My favorite dish here consisting of spaghetti noodles, smothered in beef chili, special sauce, chopped onions, and Montery and Jack cheese. If you ever find yourself somewhere in the midwest and see this glorious sign please go in. It’s for the serious eater so no chumps please.
