Terrible. First time I ordered from here. I have lived in the area for 29 years. Big mistake. I ordered a small square pie. Half plain and half garden. The garden side was loaded with frozen still wet spinach and chopped broccoli ends. It was terrible. Soggy right down to the mushy crust. The plain side was ok. Nothing terrible, but not great. We also ordered a ham calzone. I was better off just getting ham on a pizza b/c the main reason of a calzone is a delicious pocket of melted mozz and ricotta. There was barely any ricotta visable and soooooo much cheese w/little ham. Definitely not what i’m used to. Then theres the delivery time. They said it would be about an hour when I called which I thought was a lot but it was Saturday, so ok… but it turned out to be an hour and a half which I think it unacceptable. Will not be ordering from here again.

I grew up in Hazlet and for nearly 20 years, I had been a fan of Luigi’s rectangular pizza. Growing up there, who wouldn’t have been? Anyway, I have some very fond memories of this place growing up, and I recently passed through on my way to NY and decided to try it again and introduce it to my traveling companions, who were making fun of me for being so nostalgic, and sure enough, I decided to dare them to try it once we hit 35 and we ordered takeout. We arrived at the shop about 5 minutes after the estimated pick up time and when we arrived, it was ready. The verdict: the pie tasted the same to me as it did the last time I had it which was almost 10 years ago. My friends on the other hand loved it, and later told me that it was better than the pizza we had in the city. I concur, but maybe its the nostalgia talking.

Coming from NY, it’s hard to find good pizza in NJ. I’ve heard rave reviews about certain places in NJ only to find them passable. Luigi’s pizza is very good — and it’s one of the pizza places in NJ that compares to the good pizza places in NY. They have tables and chairs for sitting(it’s a pizzeria not a fancy restaurant).

We’ve been going out of our way to go to Luigi’s of Hazlet for close to 20 years, and have seen the same family running the place. We’re about 20 – 25 minutes away and probably pass 20 different pizza places on our trip to this place, but it is worth it. The storefront/restaurant isn’t anything special, but the pizza definitely is. The crust is unlike any others we’ve found in Monmouth County. Highly recommended.
