In my opinion, Purls of Joy is the best yarn store in Sonoma County. I patronize 4 different yarn stores(3 of them because they are closer to my home) but none can compare to Purls of Joy. Here’s why: 1. Friendly and welcoming people: Roseanne, the owner, started calling me by name on my second visit. She always makes me feel welcome, even when I’ve got a time-consuming problem I need help with. The store is attractive and comfortable with couches and tables for browsing through books and working on projects. 2. Knowledgeable staff: The people at Purls of Joy are knowledgeable without being condescending. No matter what kind of pattern or yarn I am looking for, they take the time to help me find it. Roseanne really knows her patterns and off the top of her head she can direct you to the perfect pattern. 3. Yarn selection: Some yarn stores have great yarns but few of the yarns are affordable. Purls of Joy has a wide selection of quality yarns in a wide price range. I love that I can find beautiful yarns in the $ 10(or less) price range as well as super high-end yarns for special projects. Once when I ran out of a discontinued yarn, Roseanne did a search, found the yarn and had it sent to her store for me.

This was one of the nicest stores that I have stopped by in a long while. I was looking to match a specific color of yarn, and the staff was very attentive and helpful in trying to find the right color for me. While I did not end up buying the yarn, the customer service was exceptional. I could not walk around the store very well due to my back injury, but the ladies that work here brought the yarn to me while I sat. I was very grateful. For that reason alone, I will be back to get yarn for a future project! It is so rare when a store has great customer service. Purls of Joy has it in abundance!

My husband and I took my mother-in-law here for her birthday. Mary Ann was SO great with us(especially attentive to my MIL). The yarns are beautiful and although I don’t knit I am now considering taking a class to learn because of our great experience today and the beautiful yarn. Can’t wait to return!(I edited the new address at Google maps so hope they actually update.)

My wife wanted to visit the local knitting shop and Unilocal produced this one. Well, the inventory was stocked with enough to keep her browsing for 30 mins. The kids had fun looking at the yarn creations and pointing out which yarn was softest. Me? I sat in one of many couches and chatted with the very friendly women who were, well, knitting. Being a tourist, they provided some additional suggestions for local sights. Time well spent for all.

I rarely rate 5 stars to anyone. This bright cheery shop nestled in charming downtown Healdsburg, CA is wonderful. They have a lot of yarn I’ve not seen at other local shops. The staff is so friendly and was very helpful, especially to one of our friends who is just getting back into knitting after a long layoff.

This is a decent yarn shop in an expensive strip of stores. The selection is okay. They didn’t actually have any of the specific things that I was looking for but had a good selection of brands and weights. There were a few small sales but otherwise it was a little pricey — to be expected considering the rent they probably have to pay. I had some trouble finding the place as their old address was listed everywhere I looked(including here on Unilocal). I think they are now at 429 Healdsburg Ave. The only thing I bought here was a very sweet owl shawl pin for my mom. Wish they had more of them. Some of the shawl pins were shockingly expensive and the wooden yarn«bowls» were pretty but way out of my price range. I wonder how many they sell…

Such a friendly place to ask for advice! I arrived at this shop with the intention of finding a book that had examples of knitting with beads, and wound up buying all the supplies for a dear friend’s first project(she’s already an avid bead collector and author). Rosanne was as sweet as she could be, surrounded by friends from the community gathered for a drop-in knitting session. The store is huge, stocked with everything you might want for a project, including classes, needles and instruction guides.

I’m sitting in my living room in Los Angeles, reading reviews about my aunt and her little shop. Roseanne married my uncle when I was a young girl and quickly became of the most important women in my life. She loves the beauty in simplicity. Every year, she takes the time to make handmade gifts for people. I can remember this from the time that I was a child. This store is perfect for her. She’s a local girl and knows every corner of Healdsburg. Having that background, she has watched the town change over the years, and decided to bring some home town feeling back to the area. Everything she does comes from the heart. If you need a special way to give a gift, stop by and see her. She takes great care in everything she does.

It’s a nice enough shop, I had higher expectations for Healdsburg though. It’s not crowded or cluttered. On the other hand, I would have liked to see more stock. They were lacking in the ‘luxury’ category… I would have preferred more Malabrigo, MadTosh, and the like. Seems much of their stock is basic cotton and wool yarns, leaning heavy on the baby colors. There were other fibers but a wide selection. They do carry yarns from an independent dyer in Santa Rosa, which is nice. It’s lovely yarn and something I can’t get at home. There was a large supply of books, somehow I missed the needles and notions portion of the shop entirely, though it must’ve been there.

Customer Service: 5 stars! I walked into Purls of Joy on a weekend trip to Heldsburg. It is a store that is welcoming and the ladies that work there are extremely helpful. I found a few skeins of yarn that caught my eye and inspired a project, with some advice of the I made my purchase. After getting home and starting my project, I realized I didn’t have enough yarn for what I wanted to do. I call Purls of Joy and they were more than happy to send me what I needed. This is where I find that they were more helpful than other yarn stores. The woman on the phone informed me that would be more than happy to send me my material and only charge me what it would cost her to send the package. Not only did I receive the yarn within the week, but the postage was minimize with the least amount of packaging! She included my receipt in the package along with with a business card that stated«Happy Knitting!» I love it when a business does take advantage of their customer and through out my experience I felt like they were knowledgeable and kind.

Rosanne is such a delight. I had tons of fun during my visit at Purls of Joy. Rosanne gives great knitting advice and her store is so comfortable to sit and knit. Plus, there is a great restaurant across the street. Her entire family is from Healdsburg. It is refreshing to see some people settled and devoted to the betterment of their town. Highly recommend!

A joy indeed. Roseanne is wonderful and never failing in giving assistance. The classes are great. Our beginning knitting class wanted to learn more some another class was created just like that. Now we want to learn cables so Roseanne and I scheduled that class yesterday. A very warm and friendly place with gorgeous yarn and delightful owners.

This where I learned to finally«Purl» whilst knitting a hat for Freddy on our way to Fort Bragg. The owners, two women, are very cool and didn’t mind me asking for their help. They were determined to teach me how to purl and now I’m a purling fool. It’s a very cool place in a very cool town. I highly recommend it to knitters and especially to wannabe knitters! I tried to add this to Unilocal and it wouldn’t let me some months ago but I’m happy someone else gave it a shot.
