Love spending summer nights at Lake Wateree. We usually go every weekend during the summer and go swimming.

When I think back a couple of years, to when we lived in Charlotte, NC and we had first started camping, I am reminded of this place. About an hour south of Charlotte, Lancaster County, SC, is in my husband’s blood; it is where his grandaddy was from. For our family, it became a place to escape and recharge from an increasingly hectic urban lifestyle. I really loved the idea that we could gas up, pack the RV and head out of town for the weekend on a Friday afternoon and be here in an hour or so. The sites were long and paved and well spaced for plenty of privacy. The campground literally sits on its own island. Sometimes when were were there you would get a loud group of teens(on retreat), but it never went out of control. At night, without any light pollution, you could drive over to the large parking lot and stargaze. This was also where my son learned to ride without his training wheels. One night we discovered a huge hoot owl, calling right over the campground. Many anglers who also camp, would pick a site near the water and bring their boats around to the site. I’m not sure if they still allow this, but it looked like a lot of fun. Fishing, trails, camp store, helpful staff, open year round, it was all there. In our opinion, this is a great campground to spend a week or a weekend.
