I think this store is gone? I couldn’t find them anywhere.

I’m a huge fan of jerky and this was the place to go. Excellent selection, professionally made and packaged. Of course I had to get one of everything so it was a little pricey. You get what you pay for so if you want good tasting, well made jerky this is the place to go.

Intrigued by the allure of vegan jerky I entered HOJAS(interestingly HOJAS translates in Spanish as «leaves) and was politely pointed to said product. I purchased a few, but they sucked, no fault of the shop since they were not made there. I appreciated the effort, prices were fair. Service was friendly, lots of fun stuff for those that partake of the dried animal flesh. Overall an interesting shop.

Do you guys wanna eat some scorpions, crickets, worms, boar, alligator, or kangaroo? You can get them all at Helen’s House of Jerky And Such. House of Jerky And Such is an intimate store around the main streets of Helen. They are dog friendly. In fact, the owner has a huge dog with her in the tiny store. Of course, I wouldn’t come in with your pack of 12 dogs without warning. Just like their name implies, they sell jerky. And as I mentioned earlier, they have some exotic jerky like venison, wild boar, alligator, kangaroo, etc. But they are expensive. They are $ 8 for only 1.75 oz. I guess they’re expensive because they are exotic and unique. I tried the alligator and the venison. They were flavored with soy sauce and had a slight, smoky flavor. The alligator was very tough and was moist. It was ok. The venison was good. I had venison jerky before, and they always tasted good to me. And House of Jerky’s venison seemed no different. I wasn’t a fan of the soy sauce flavor though. But for the price, I would just hunt a deer myself and make jerky out of the whole deer. That’s much cheaper. Of course, you can get«normal» jerky and meat sticks here too. They were very spicy and peppery, which I liked. I did not get to try the scorpion candy, the crickets or the worms, unfortunately.

This little store is off the main street, on River street. It’s a tiny establishment with a very interesting assortment of jerkies and other treats. Offered on the day we stopped in were flavored venison, kangaroo, turkey, wild boar, and of course beef and pork jerkies. There were also assorted candies(including flavored crickets and scorpion suckers) on display. The store owner has an adorable great dane with her, who is super sweet and very well behaved. I highly recommend stopping in for the novelty factor, and of course to pick up some jerky!
