Might be good, but wouldn’t know. Walked up to get a beer, but the bartender was too busy smoking and chatting with his buddies. Left after waiting a few minutes.

Found this gem yesterday on an impromptu day trip to Helen. Outside area houses 7 or 8 rows of conjoined picnic tables(at least 5 tables per row) so there is plenty of casual seating with enough room to not feel crowded. Excellent live music all day! Friendly, attentive bar and wait staff pulls it all together… and the whole«white tent, white table cloth thing feels very VIP. Cruise in, grab a 2 beer souvenir cup & enjoy the sights, sounds! With Octoberfest fast approaching, this is the place to be in this adorable little German town!

A fun & friendly Biergarten. Had a great waitress who was knowledgeable & fun. Haven’t tried any of their food offerings, but only because our only concern was the beer! Good selection on draught.

Was wondering around the little square area and spotted a few open bar stools, so I decided to belly up and order a beer. I can only review on beer and atmosphere. The beer was cold, served quickly and tasty. A decent beer selection for a small outside bar. They had a cool deal for a souvenir cup that came with decently priced refills as well. The service was ok, nothing special. The bartender on duty was, well, to put it nicely… kind of a tool. Overall an average experience with nothing that would keep me away or make me run back. Hit and miss at best due to service.

All outdoor bar and seating. Mostly for adults but kid friendly. Decent beer selection. Get the souvenir cup, you pay one price then refill for a few dollars less at any place in Helen that serves alcohol. They do serve food, but it’s mostly fried bar food. We had the Bavarian pretzel which was very good. Good place to hang out and have a beer after shopping or a long day tubing the river.

We visited during off-season and still had a blast chatting with other visitors and locals. Rich is awesome, very attentive and a fun guy. We tried several types of beer, including a blend of two German beers. We heard they have the best pretzel in town, but we were too stuffed to try it. Next time, for sure.

Good German Beer. Great people. Awesome bar keep. Nice place to rest with kids and get a moment to people watch. Pretzel was awesome. Would recommend for a moment of relaxation in Helen.

Great atmosphere but very limited menu and a busy day with one server. Had to wait forever for everything and even had to go get my own refill once… I love the town but this place needs a little more to make it great like some of the others in town.

Nice outdoor spot-good beer if you order at the bar and food is actually good. Not given 5 stars as once I went to a waitress, and it was not that crowded, I still had to go to the bar to get something. But for Helen, live music, loved it. Got a Brat, a $ 12 beer in a plastic cup you can keep, and good music. I was happy! The potato salad was German and tasty. Lots of kids, and pet friendly which I like(pets– not wild kids) but all was ok. Will be back.

Nice little beer garden in the middle of town. We would stop here daily for a quick beer and those pretzels! Yes, definitely get the pretzel with the beer cheese! The only downside was beer served in the plastic cups but if you get a pitcher they will give you an ice bag to keep it cold so it worked out. Very friendly service!

Tony and I was in Helen, Ga on Saturday April 5, 2014 and we enjoyed the Bier Garden at King Ludwig’s which is located in the front part of Helen Square. They were playing loud music, country not German Oompa but it was good music. There is one opening where they were asking for ID, but the other opening was wide open so No one was being stopped or showing ID. children were running around in the Bier garden. NO my liking… but hey these tourist are on vacation, drinking, dancing playing corn hole and NOTWATCHING their kids… lol !!! Tony ordered a King Ludwig Dunkel dark bier… he liked it a lot. but he said the Warsheimer Dunkel he had upstairs was much better to his taste buds. He paid $ 5 with tip and taxes. I enjoyed the music. took a few sips of his german bier and stopped into a few of the shops on the sidewalk in the square opening area. Very nice and enjoyable…

a cute place to hang out and have beer and bratwursts. i do wish during Oktoberfest that you are allowed to leave with your beer. i do understand that there are kids out there, but let’s say, by dark, the town should allow for this to happen on the special occasion of Oktobefest. Our waitress was very friendly, but the food, is hey– nothing more than beer and bratwursts. It would’ve been four stars but the fact that their bartender refused to give out tap water to paying customers is ridiculous. So you can either pay for expensive beer or buy bottled water. I would’ve understood this if they refused it from ‘passer-bys’ but for someone who just paid over 50 bucks for 5 sausages, a dollop of sauerkraut, a dollop of German potatoes, and a pitcher of beer, they really should make the time to do so.

1st stop on our pub crawl. Walked up a few minutes before the bar started serving on Sunday. Was told we had to wait. Once again, reminded we’re not in Nola where you can get a beer«to go» while enjoying your morning walk. All seats are outdoors which I’d imagine can be fun with a large group on a cool evening. We sat at the bar closest to the street. Beer of choice, summer shandy. Live music, mix of pop and country.

We came to Helen this past Sunday(9÷1÷13) for some hiking and relaxing. We got into town around noon and were told that our hotel room wouldn’t be ready until 3. We weren’t dressed for hiking and didn’t want to change in the car so we decided to walk around and drink beer instead. First stop, King Ludwig’s Beer Garden. This is just a little open cabana looking place with a bar all the way around it with plenty of picnic tables to enjoy your beer. Apparently the place doesnt open until 12:30 on Sunday’s(odd time) as the guy behind the bar yelled«5 more minutes!!!» at me as I tried to order. So I waited until they rang their little bell only to be cut in front of by a hillbilly woman wanting her Bud Light. Really Bud Light at a German style Biergarten??? This should not be allowed but alas the tourist wouldn’t allow for it. We each got a Paulaner Oktoberfest and sat at the bar and enjoyed the nice weather and music… ok not the music so much. It was terrible! Luckily a few minutes later a guy walks up with a guitar to play some music. I thought we were in for a treat but he was worse. He was all tatted up looking like he was ready to rock then he plays a freaking Katie Perry song. WTF!!! That made us chug the beer a little faster and head to the next stop. Cool little place with 10 – 12 beers on tap. They have some food items as well that were more on the german sausage side of the spectrum. Great for outdoor seating if the music isn’t on. Maybe if you drink enough it sounds better. Maybe. Oh and there are stop signs that say«STOP: No Alcohol beyond this point» at the exits. Yet they give you your beer in plastic to go cups. This is like having a woman in lingerie on your bed saying«No sorry I have a headache». A complete tease!

Great place in the heart of Helen, GA. It has a great view of the center of town and has an open area for eating and drinking. There was live music and the service was good. If you’re looking for something to pick on but don’t want a full meal, try the giant pretzel, it’s big enough to share between 2 people. Get the beer cheese dip also, it compliments the pretzel well.

This place is great if it’s not too crowded and the weather is nice. Lots of seating at picnic tables with umbrellas and a few seats around the bar, which is under a roof. There is a full bar with a decent selection of bier vom fass from Germany, the USA, and other places. The bier is available in pints, litre boots and mugs, and pitchers. It’s a great place for cornhole, and due to its central location, it’s also a great place for people watching. Our waitress was friendly, and came through often enough to keep us happy. A limited food menu is available, but we were there only for beverages. They advertize 5 ounce wine pours, but the plastic stemware also holds exactly 5 ounces, so the glass was full to the brim. The waitress unavoidably spilled some on the way to the table, but she did the best she could(not her fault). I would like to point out that if the place is crowded, the staff can become a little overwhelmed. Overall, we had a nice experience here and will return!

Keep an eye on your beer cup lol… mine was switched. Some guy got mine and I got a new one. The new one I was okay with but the poor fellow was never told that he got someone elses and left the pub with that. Might think about taking a sharpie to mine next time haha :) The beer… flows good and tasty :)

«It takes beer to make thirst worthwhile.» German proverb The county seat of beer drinking in Helen, King Ludwig’s Beer Garden is smack dab in the middle of all the action. If you spend any time in Helen, you WILL end up here. Go ahead, give in, you know you want to. Pull up to the bar if open, or if you come in October, be prepared to share a table with fellow travelers. Pretzels are good here, with a nice cheese sauce on the side. Buy the big beer mug, the refills are the only deal to be found here, and the cup gives you lifetime privileges. Thirsty yet?

This is a fun place to watch the diverse crowd that Helen attracts. Big beers in a plastic mug for 10 bucks, seems pricey until you find out that refills are seven bucks forever, for any of the many beers they have on tap. Get a giant pretzel and the cheese sauce, it was delicious.
