I am Hungarian, and I love Hungarian food. If that’s what your looking for, then go to Paprikas. Every time I go there I get the Chicken Paprikash. It is my absolute favorite. I think over the years we have had everything on the menu, and never a complaint. How can you beat authentic Crepes for dessert.

I’ve been here six times; and left completely satisfied with my meal. This is a no-frills BYOB joint that served authentic Hungarian food. The owners wait on your tables with a smile and great sense of humor. Their mother cooks in the kitchen. The atmosphere is relaxed and very casual. The halupkies are massive and popping with flavor. The fried meatballs, friend pork chops, Paprikas, cottage cheese noodles, and cabbage & noodles are incredible! Skip the salad for the homemade soup! So, come with a sense if humor and an empty stomach! Enjoy!

It was the nd time I eat in Paprika and the food was excellent. traditional food, wooded environment, no wifi so you can speak with your food companions. make a reservation before you go!

We went to Paprikas last night like looking for authentic Hungarian food. I ordered the goulash. It was the worst meal I’ve had in over a decade. It was made from pork. Real goulash is made with beef. I checked online to confirm that it truly is a beef dish. I couldn’t eat my meal as it was just terrible. I had crepes for dessert. They were excellent.

I was passing through town for business and decided to check this place out with some coworkers. As soon as we walked in we were greeted as if we were family. We were told to sit wherever we would like and then someone came over and took our drink orders. Drinks were brought out promptly and our lunch orders were taken. I ordered the chicken paprikash and it was wonderful! The noodles were clearly homemade and were delicious. The cream sauce was very rich in flavor but not overbearing. The chicken was cooked very well and was very tender and juicy. One of the only complaints I have is over the rolls… I know, they are just rolls but I would have loved it if they were warm when they came to the table and if the butter was not straight out of the fridge. Cold butter is impossible to spread on a cold roll :( That being said, my overall experience was great and I loved how friendly the man was that served us. He really made us feel welcome. I do not have any authentic Hungarian restaurants where I live so this was a great treat to find! I would definitely eat here again if I was ever in the area again!

Great food! I would have given 5 stars but it seems they run out of some stuff on the menu. For example an item they run out of is stuffed cabbage. Overall I think the food is very good and will I will be going back.

Even though my last name is Irish, my mother was Hungarian and I was raised with Hungarian food all around me. I miss it so. Paprikas has food like mom used to make! That’s why I go time after time!

I’ve eaten here a few times already so I thought it was about time I wrote a little review. While the atmoshere is a bit stark, the food and service certainly make up for it! It’s almost as good as my own homemade Hungarian cooking, lol! Love the little dumplings, everything is perfectly seasoned and ample portions! I’m already looking forward to going back again!

Authentic Hungarian food, great taste and large portions! Family run, great service! The only reason I didn’t give it 5 stars is the ambiance could be better but this is truly as good as it gets for hungarian food!

You want real Hungarian food in eastern Pennsylvania? Well, this is about as close to Budapest as you’ll get. Paprika’s is one of the only ethnic restaurants left in the Lehigh Valley, and thank heaven they’re still around. Chicken Paprikash, Hungarian Goulash, Halupki, Cucumbers and Sour Cream… They lovingly make traditional Hungarian fare… It’s big portions, good taste, and no frills. The walls need paint, the lights could be brighter… blah blah… who cares about the décor. The kitchen is clean, the food is great, and the family in charge is from Hungary. What’s better than that? I would suggest it to anyone traveling through the Lehigh Valley, easy to get to on main street in Hellertown off 78, and for any local with«ethnic» ties. Polish? Slovak? Slovenian? You’ll love the place. It’s like grandma’s kitchen all over again.

As a fellow Hellertown small business owner I am happy to frequent other businesses in Hellertown and after eating at Paprikas a few years ago I find it hard to go anywhere else since. The waitstaff is always super-friendly and even Frank(the owner) comes out of the kitchen during a lull to chat regularly. I’ve eating more than half the things on the menu by now, but always fall back to either the wonderful beef or chicken paprikas. I’ve also never left hungry! The portions are enough to take home for another meal tomorrow. And I have… The atmosphere is family friendly, authentic Hungarian and quaint. The BYOB is a great feature during dinner and the crepes(and sometimes kiffles!) for dessert finish the meal off perfectly. I highly recommend this fine establishment.

This maybe authentic and is rare Hungarian food– rare to find any ethnic treats outside of NYC. Yummy chicken in saucy cream over uniquely unamerican noodles. The giant stuffed cabbage is not as good as grandmas as it has odd maybe peppery taste inside.(Maybe it’s better if you’re not a super taster.) The soup a la chicken was pleasing. The table bread is basic dull. The goulash was ok. I wish the world would stop putting pepper in all the food; let the tasters do it for themselves, please.

A very authentic Hungarian restaurant in a simple, homey, non-pretentious setting. I’ve been eating here since it was called Elizabeths for about a decade or so. The service is usually good although they can be a bit slow sometimes. The family is friendly. The portions are large and tasty… not too much spice, just right. We prefer the Chicken Paprikash but have sampled just about everything on the menu. The goulash is great. Other favorites: meatloaf, Gypsy pork, stuffed cabbage, etc. A lot of these dishes are served with home made spaetzle noodles… nearly as good as my own! We usually have perogie or soup to start and always leave with half of our dinner to take home. The prices are reasonable. The music is a neat mix of Hungarian classic music and current Hungarian pop. This is one of the few tasty restaurants in the area that isn’t trying to be something it’s not. Far too many put so much into the looks of the place and the food is always lacking. Not here… It’s great! Now, if they only had an accordion player, a fiddler and some Csárdás dancing!

Small but clean dining area. Food was excellent for a small town offering of Hungarian food. The only issue I had was that the bread served could have been warmed when brought to the table. Had cucumber salad for an appetizer and that was awesome. Wife ordered Stuffed Cabbage and when it came to the table it was two large sizes(softball sizes). I ordered Brasciole, which is seasoned pork bits on top of a bed of French Fries. Very good but could have had some sauce. For dessert had the signature crepes and chose an apricot filling and it was excellent. Brought my own bottle of wine and if your a wine drinker, I suggest you do the same, since they do not have a liquor license. Would go back and try some other things on the menu such as the paprikas.

I hate writing a bad review, and usually don’t, but this one has earned it. Where do I start? The owner is rude. The food took 45 minutes to come out. I know hungarian food, and the cabbage and noodles was awful. The chicken paprika was all sauce/noodles and two tiny chicken legs and they were dry! The dessert was the crêpe stuffed with sweetened cottage cheese. That was horrible. The cottage cheese tasted like it was soaked in dirty dishwater… never again.

What happened to this place? I’ve been here many times and it used to be an excellent place. My Mother was born in Hungary so I know good authentic food. This trip food was just OK, Nothing stellar. They were out of several items and waiter was in such a rush he bordered on being rude! I asked for suggestion between two items and he said,“why r u asking me?” Geez! There were only three other tables. We had to ask several to ask three times for a drink refill because he forgot to bring them. The father(who is always so pleasant and accommodating) needs to give this son a customer service refresher coarse! The place seemed dirty and a few tables were never cleared off after the cutomers left. We won’t be back anytime soon

Food was good. A lot is simple fare(cabbages, potatoes, stews, meat fillings). But it was pretty tasty. We had ghoulash, which was pretty good. I enjoyed the spetzel like noodles and the broth was very tasty. We also had one of the stuffed cabbage. This was very good. I could have eaten three of these. Paprikas tomato based sauce is a very nice balance of broth and tomato without being to tomatoey.(Yes, that’s not a word, but anyone who eats knows exactly what I mean. The tomato base didn’t have the stewed tomato or tomato soup taste.) The portions could have been a bit larger. While the stuffed cabbage was a good size. I felt $ 7 for one stuffed cabbage was a bit expensive. The mashed potato side was a small single scoop and didn’t really impress me. That said, I was really left wanting another stuffed cabbage. Service was kind of slow and haphazard, which considering the place was not very busy during our visit was a touch disappointing. I would recommend Paprika’s to friends visiting the area. Especially if you are one who enjoys stuffed cabbage as it’s probably one of the better ones I’ve had from a restaurant. Overall score: 3.5(just a little more would have encouraged me to go with a 4) — Note: You can park in back and walk up a hallway between the two buildings to reach Paprika’s.

I frequent this place often and the food is home cooking. I usually order the chicken paprikas or the gypsy pork. Those two dishes are pretty good. The portions are quite large and the food comes out fresh. The owner let me the back of the kitchen on occasions and everything is made from scratch. Grinding sausage to cutting and mashing potatoes. Sure the décor can use some work, but I rather have a restaurant put money into the food, first and foremost. If you are looking for some good wholesome Hungarian food, you gotta go to Paprikas.
