Better than expected pizza for a food truck. Friendly service and fresh toppings

As area residents, we’ve had APizza Mia on more than one occasion. Foods always pretty good, basic thin crust pizza. The service I can best describe as disaffected and just mannerly enough to qualify as mildly noticeable borderline annoying. On one occasion they gave away my pizza before I arrived,(translation — profited from a walk up situation). Most times they don’t acknowledge your presence when you walk up, and I rarely receive a thank you. Small customer service touches, and definitely not enough to prevent me from purchasing, but noticeable.

The food is great! This little gem is tucked away in Lakehills, TX next to Medina Lake. I highly recommend the bruschetta, the sausage/pepperoni breads, eggplant parm, and any of the pizzas. My sisters that live in Boston will even vouch for the authenticity of their pizza oven. The only problem is that because it’s rural the staff is mostly kids and they have trouble getting things out fast. This isn’t McDonalds so prepare to wait. Even if you carry out it usually takes 30 – 40 minutes. The food is legit, though.

Stopped by the Annex today looking for Lagniappe Today and found Apizza Mia sitting by their lonesome. Although I was really craving something different, I still wanted to show support for Downtown Food Trucks so, Apizza Mia it was. They had quite a few people waiting for their order which got me prepared for a wait. I ordered two slices of Pepperoni pizza for $ 6, not bad priced. She pulled out some pizza from the showcase in the front, added some more cheese and pepperoni and put em in the oven. I’m used to this being done in a variety of places to save on time, so I wasn’t too surprised. The crust was nice and crispy and the sauce was really good but all in all it was an ok slice of pizza. Fit the price and got it relatively quickly. The large crowd that was waiting had ordered subs and calzones so I’d say you’re looking at a 30 minute wait for those items during their busy times.

I wonder if the fact that I had their pizza from their roach coach instead of their restaurant made a difference? The employees were exceptionally friendly but the food was not all that great. My lunch partner had a pepperoni and I had a plain cheese. I figured you couldn’t go wrong with either but we were not that impressed. The pizza was all dough… and the sauce and cheese were uneven. We both ordered personal pizzas and for the price we paid, it hardly felt worth the cost. If memory serves, it was about 15 bucks for two. :(\_(\ *:(=’ :’) :* *.(,(«)(»)°.*‘”

Disappointed. The free bread was really good, but beyond that the experience was a train wreck. We ordered sausage bread as an appetizer. What we ended up getting was cold pepperoni bread instead. The appetizer bread had good flavor, but tasted like it was sitting out for quite a while before it was brought to the table. We ordered one of the speciality pizzas(I think was called«the Lakes»). It was basically a BBQ Chicken pizza. We ordered a LARGE with no onions and extra cheese. Around 45 minutes later(maybe longer– it seemed like hours) our pizza arrived. After we started eating the pizza we discovered it was filled with onions and questioned the«extra cheese» as well. We informed our waitress who offered to have it remade, but did not seem very apologetic about the situation(in fact not once did she say the words«I’m sorry»). We said we were concerned about waiting another hour and she said this time would only be a couple minutes. 15 – 20 minutes later the second pizza came and we received the check. We decided to take the pizza to go after filling up on beverages during our long wait. After seeing the check we realized that they had made and charged us for an extra large instead of a large. Tired of dealing with the situation we paid and took the pizza home. Once home, we tried one of the slices of the new pizza and realized that not only were there still onions in it(they bury them under the cheese), but the new pizza was made with regular tomato sauce instead of the BBQ pizza sauce that we had ordered and originally had. SERIOUSLY?!? I’m not sure what is going on in the kitchen there, but after this many repeated mistakes I doubt that we will return. The crust of the pizza was really good and if we did not have a severe dislike for onions, the rest of the BBQ pizza would have been pretty good as well. I feel very disappointed at the staff there. The waitress made us feel guilty for saying anything about the mistakes because she offered no apologies whatsoever and the cooks obviously could care less about what the specifics are of what you order. You’re going to get whatever they happen to throw together. Hopefully the owner will catch on to the subpar staff and replace or retrain them. They are bringing with entire restaurant down.

This is my 50th review and needless to say it is one of my best. This is not to be confused with anything on the SA Riverwalk… in fact it is almost an hour away tucked in the hill country… but the food is as good as anything in tourist country… and the service much better. We ate there all 3 nights I was in the SA area… it is the closest restaurant to my friend’s house. Pizza is thin crust like St. Louis style. one night we got the White Pizza… mozzarella and cheese with no red sauce and two nights after when we drove back from ND game we got the Pizza Mia(6 toppings)…extra large can feed 3 – 4 easly… I got a grinder first night… good beer and wine selection including Shiner Bock(Texas beer)…ice cream is very good too… owners Tony and Tamara(husband and wife) are very cordial and friendly as is Tina a server… they let us eat in a few minutes after they were to close at 11 on Sat and that was very nice… our bill Sat was $ 40 and I gave Tamara a $ 20 tip… she was shocked and said I didn’t need to gave her that much but she was great… I offered to buy a red T shirt they had hanging from a wall but Tamara generously gave it to me… I probably won’t be back to SA very soon but when I do I woud defintly return to Apizza Mia
