Whenever I visit my family in SC, I try to fit in a trip to this place for some bbq b/c I like how it tastes. What I DON’T like is when I don’t receive a fork in my bag or when I receive sauce on the side for only one sandwich after I ordered TWO or when I’m asked IF I want bread to go along with the SANDWICH I ordered… y’all straight up slippin’! And here’s a tip, try making ALL customers feel like their business is appreciated. I’m just sayin’, a smile or a genuine«thank you» goes a long way… and ensures a long line. And when I say ALL customers, I mean young people too. Listen, the food is good(tonight it was just decent, I’m guessing b/c it was close to knock off), but the customer service is lacking. Someone posted a comment on 3÷2÷2016 about not feeling welcome at your establishment, so it’s not just my imagination. I’m sure that my «A-OK» rating won’t deter people from stopping by to fill their bellies with your bbq, but I’m sure as heck not gonna go out of my way anymore for your bbq UNLESS you guys work on your customer service.

This by far the best bbq we ever had. Wayne being a good olé southern boy said its the most tender and flavorful bbq he has ever tasted. He is definitely more of a mustard sauce fan then vinegar and pepper base like Scotts is but I have decided I am a vinegar fan just because of Scott’s! They give great portion sizes and the coleslaw was creamy which played well with the vinegar pork. $ 5 pork sandwiches and $ 7 plates. They do not accept credit or debit so bring cash! The guy smoking the pigs let me come take a look and snap pics, very friendly and it gets super busy around lunch time.

My fiancé was dying to come here so we made the trip on our way to Charleston, SC. It was pretty out of the way, but worth the trip. The food was good. The BBQ was nice and spicy. A surprise to us, but we really enjoyed it. The place was chock full of locals, which was nice to see, but the only thing I didn’t like about the place is that you didn’t feel very welcome. It was definitely worth the experience though, and I’m glad we came.

This BBQ is renowned far and wide, it’s my all-time favorite! I always get take-out, but there are places to sit inside and out if you want to eat on site. I’ve never visited this joint without there being customers in line before me. It’s definitely a memorable experience for the BBQ and a challenge to find this locale. I get a pound to go when it’s just for me, much more when I’m expecting company.

Wouldn’t go out of your way. Nice people but the pork wasn’t very impressive. Not smokey at all and slightly dry. In fact, when they saw we were going to sit down and eat they asked if we wanted the food warmed up and then they microwaved it in the styrofoam container. We actually bought a smoker on the way home and made much better the next day.

We decided to drive 2 hours to eat Scott’s Bar-B-Que after watching Anthony Bourdain make a visit on CNN. I ordered the BBQ sandwich with baked beans, the flavors of that pulled pork was amazing. You could tell it had be smoking for hours on end, it was a little spicy but it was the perfect amount of spice. The white bread that I got for the sandwich was so good with the pork! It just soaked up all the juices and made it that much more special. Very good price. Very long line but was worth it in the end. For the nice and authentic family owned restaurant, I give it a double thumbs up!

I live 50 minutes away and just ate here my first time this evening. We have so many restaurants that serve whole hog pork barbecue in our area. We didn’t understand how Scott’s could be unique. We got 3 pork plates, some stringy tenderloin by the pound, some extra sauce &2 bags of crunchy skins. Scott’s is just an old store converted to a take out joint. There were only 2 tables inside. Do like we did and get your food to go. Everything we ate was exceptional. The pork was tender and succulent. It really didn’t need extra sauce but we decided to guild the lily and add more anyway. So good! The coleslaw & beans complemented the meat so well. They did give you two pieces of white bread with your meal and we made fold over sandwiches with our pork. We’d love to try some white rice or maybe some grits with this barbecue but we can always fix those sides at home. A gracious staff, fantastic food, nostalgic building … Adds up to a lovely experience. We will be back !!!

I’ve been to some of the most famous BBQ joints in the country and was schooled in BBQ by Butch Lupinetti, The World Champion. Today I rode the bike to Scott’s, after two years of hesitating and putting off the trip. I wasn’t disappointed and, despite the tiny serving area and the void of seating, except for some tables under a canopy, across the street. It was an incredible experience. This is the South and most of the customers are there for great food and take it back to work or home. These folks know how to cook a pig and make great BBQ. The pork was tender and juicy with just the right amount of bite, that I like, in their sauce. Up there with the BEST I’ve had. I opted for the BBQ pork sandwich. They serve up a half pound of pulled pork, so succulent, just seeing and smelling it makes your mouth water. You can’t stuff it all between the two slices of white bread, that accompany the pork, or you can just use the plastic fork and dig in. It’s BBQ Heaven! I sat on my bike and ate as car after pick up truck drove in and left with sacks of food. During the week, it’s mostly locals and everybody seems to know each other. The locals extended their Southern Hospitality to the Biker, who sat in the parking lot, enjoying his lunch, with greetings, typical of the South. One of the things I missed living up north. There are lots of things to see in Hemingway, but Scott’s is off the beaten path. It’s on a heavily traveled Hemmingway Highway, and the cross street is Cow Head Road. Country enough for you? I absolutely loved my lunch today and will return for their«Saturday Only, cooked to order, rib eye steak sandwich», tomorrow! And I will have to bring home some Chicken for dinner. They do the whole hog here and the pork skins are in bags at the ordering window. When you can get fresh pork rinds, you know that you have discovered Hog Heaven. Scotts is now my favorite BBQ joint and the hour and a half ride there is an awesome ride from Murrells Inlet, with the South Carolina forests lining the back roads. If your within 100 miles, it’s a must do. Thank you Rodney, for another culinary treat. Ya’all have a new fan Biker Mac

First the positives: I dig the authentic look(especially when its that way because thats just the way its been). The sides were good as well and the Pork rinds were very good. Made sure to hit it when I was visiting Charleston(little bit of a hike — especially since the area was recovering from recent flooding –probably added an hour or two onto the trip)…With the upshot being we came in HUNGRY. The negative: The BBQ wasn’t particularly good. It was rather dried out.(Was hoping this was gonna rival experiences had at Oklahoma Joes or Franklins — but it wasn’t even up the level of a decent Chicago BBQ place) I would note this mitigating factor: This was the first Saturday after the major rains/floods in the area and you could see the area had been affected — So it very well could have been the case where simply being open was the mission that day and they weren’t able to put their best BBQ foot forward. Sadly can’t recommend it, especially considering it will be a hike for most folks

Great South Carolina BBQ. You had better like your vinegar based BBQ hot because it is. The building is an old shack and not very appealing but it does add charm. You can get a plate or whole hog if ordered ahead of time.

Unfortunately, for me this was another one of those«as seen on TV» places. I had been looking forward to going for about 2 years so the disappointment was that much greater. The pork is tasty but simply not deserving of the effort to get there nor the 45 minute wait to order. I’ve had better bbq elsewhere.

We went here for my birthday lunch and I wasn’t disappointed. My wife got bbq sandwich and I got the plate. We sat inside and ate our lunch and the majority of the patrons whether local or not were very friendly. Service is a little slow but I didn’t expect it to be fast, the lady’s behind the counter don’t smile but they are really friendly. The pork is what they are known for and it did not disappoint. It takes a lot of skill and knowledge to cook whole hogs with coals. The meat was tender and had just the right amount of heat to it, i put extra sauce on mine because I like it spicy. Rodney Scott the Pitmaster was there and I was able to snag a picture with one of the legends of BBQ, he was super friendly and talked as if we knew each other. Definitely worth a stop.

When it comes to bbq and tacos, I honestly believe the dirtier the better. It’s a motto I live by. The more unassuming the joint, the smaller the hole, and the further into a wall, the better. Scott’s BBQ checks all the boxes, and it really didn’t disappoint. We stopped on the way down from Durham to Charleston, and were absolutely famished when we arrived. Scott’s really is a hole in the wall type of local joint. It’s a no frills kind of place, but that’s how you know it’s the real deal. We ordered a plate of smoked chicken and a plate of pulled pork between the four of us girls, and it was plenty of food. The meats came with two slices of Wonderbread per person and a side of baked beans and coleslaw per plate. The sides were great and fine, but the real action was in the meat. We agreed that we preferred the chicken; however both plates were extremely moist and tender and the sauce adds the perfect amount of spice and kick! Come hungry, because portions are more than generous!

I make a trip to Scott’s during every visit to Charleston. The drive from Charleston is over an hour but well worth the trip. Here are a few tips: — cash only — open Wed. — Sat. only — BBQ pork and skins are a must — consider extra to take home I can’t wait for the my next visit.

This is the best Q you will ever put between your lips. It doesn’t get any better than this. I make the hour drive to get this delicious food about once a month. Just thinking about it makes me want to make the drive today.

There’s a reason Scott’s BBQ is famous… it’s awesome! I’m not sure why some people say it’s best to carry out because part of the charm is eating either inside or across the street on the picnic tables, chatting up locals and regulars from all over. Just a warning though… this isn’t the trendy, special thrills BBQ; this is whole hog and half chickens done how your grandpa would do… if your grandpa was Southern and awesome.

Cash only. Call first for hours before trekking. Worth the hour long trip from Myrtle Beach. See photo of store front first for easy identification. GPS may be inaccurate. Photo Op with Mr Rodney Scott. ALL seasoning has pepper/chili but balanced with sweetness. Pulled Pork — edible by itself as it already well seasoned. Sauce is unnecessary but adds additional kick with chili and vinegar. Ribs — falls off the bone. Texture is the same as pulled pork. Spicier than pulled pork with chunks of red pepper flakes. Beans — yum! Sweet and slightly spicy. Tolerable by a 6 yr old. Great for dunking bread. Pig Skin — hit and miss. Some hard. Some crunchy. Cole Slaw — creamy and delicious.

Went here on one of our summer bbq roadtrips. I may be a bit jaded, growing up in the south, where BBQ is king. I was practically raised on it, and yes, I even do it my self. I’ve been a lot of places and had a lot of bbq, some exceptional, some not so great. While Scott’s was good, it didn’t blow me away like I had hoped. I think the folks coming here and putting it on the television and in the magazines/newpapers are entranced by the small town home feel of it. To me, that’s just everyday life. The ‘que didn’t really need any more sauce than what they put on there. I lost the faint smokiness, when I doused it with the super peppery sauce. I thought the sauce could have used a bit more of a vinegary bite to it. It was great, when you put it on bread with the cole slaw, mixed very well. It was cool to go back and see them smoking the pigs, unreal smell, like heaven. They smoke the pigs for 12 hours on pecan and oak, which would make you believe that it would be a bit more smokey. The folks working were extremely nice and very helpful. My 2yr old daughter was playing with one of the local kids, they had a blast. I would give it a solid 3.5 if I could.

I thought SC barbecue was that nasty mustardy stuff. Boy was I wrong. This is the real deal here. Nothing but heat and smoke from wood and nothing but whole hog. The quality and care that went into each bite puts most other places in the southeast to shame. As if they stayed up all night and did nothing but work to put the barbecue on your one plate. You see the kind of care that goes into the judges’ plates at a barbecue competition? Its kind of like that — only everyone that is lucky enough to stop in that day gets the focus and love that you’d think was impossible to give to that many people. But they do it. The sauce is(crazy) hot, but in an I-can’t-get-enough kind of way — the perfect compliment to some of the best barbecue I’ve ever had. And I’m a bit of an eastern-NC barbecue snob. Consider my horizons expanded MUCH to my benefit. This place is pretty far out of the way, but so worth the drive. Make the trip!
