My best friend and I met in Hermann this weekend for Maifest. We stopped by this place on a whim; it was one she hadn’t yet been to in Hermann. The tasting was only $ 5, and it was ALLDRYWINES! She loves Pinot and I love Cabernet so we were in heaven. We also tried a Sauvignon Blanc which was quite good. The man pouring for us was friendly and knowledgeable. Neither of us are connoisseurs, by any means. The potency of these wines was noticeable, as we both got a slight buzz just from a tasting. If you are a fan of dry wine, this is a good place to stop. In comparison, we tasted at Stone Hill and all of their«dry» wines were still very sweet tasting.

I can’t decide how I feel about this place. I really feel I’m between 3 and 4 stars. If I could, I’d give them 3.5 stars. First, I agree with a previous reviewer… I’m sick of the obsession with California wines. They are really overrated in my mind. Yes, they are good, but I have tasted many Missouri wines that could compete with a California wine. With that said, I will say that I love that this place only serves dry wine. I often get sick of all of the sweet wines sold around the area. I get why people do this as lots of MO people seem to only like sweet wine, but I appreciate some good dry wines. This place definitely has some really good dry wines from 3 different California wineries. I just wish they were a little more affordable. I think a few of their wines are as high as $ 40. This might be a competitive price in California, but I have a hard time thinking someone in MO would pay that much. I certainly refused to. Finally, I loved that this place is quiet and on the classier sign. It can be exhausting being around drunk, crazy people all day long. It was nice to escape the MO winery scene for 15 – 30 minutes. They also have a nice outdoor patio space for you to relax on when you’re done with the tasting. Overall, good dry wines and a welcome reprieve from the crazy, party scene. I just wish their wines were more affordable.

Not impressed. I hate when Missouri wineries feel the need to import from California. It’s not necessary — you can grow perfectly good grapes here in Missouri, and make perfectly good wines. And even as a fan of California wines, I much prefer their neighbor’s offerings. Stop by if you want to be a Hermann winery completist, but your time is better spent elsewhere.

Came here as a stop on our wine tour. We were ushered upstairs above the main tasting room and given a very dry red to sample. I’m not a fan of dry reds, so it wasn’t my favorite stop… however a few things stood out to me: –the art on the walls(especially upstairs) was really eye catching. The framed photos depict wine cellars softly lit and they pictures really draw you in! The staff was nice, and yes we would have gladly paid $ 5 to taste all their wines if we didn’t have 6 other stops to make already.

Very nice owners and the wine is really good if you like more expensive wines. Its all imported California wine so if you are looking for German wine, you are out of luck. They have a nice patio outside. Its a bit pricey but great to go if you just want to have a couple of glasses!

I’m giving this place the review I think my husband would appreciate. I didn’t taste anything, as I’m not a dry drinker, so it wasn’t worth the $ 5. Yes, they charge for tastings, but you get to try everything on their list(9 wines). Bottles start at mid-20s, so I guess it’s fair. These wines are from the Dierberg(Yes, like the grocery store. A cousin of the grocery owner who also owns Hermannhof, First Banks, some Hermann B&Bs, etc) family vineyards out in Santa Barbara, California. My husband LOVED the wine, so if you’re a dry lover, it’s worth the stop and the money. Lani(sp?), our pourer, was very nice and chatted us up. We walked away with a bottle of their Merlot, and I think hubbys will have a hard time letting it sit for long. FYI: There were a couple«California» wines labeled in the Hermannhof tasting room. We didn’t think much of them, so we were concerned about heading next door for this tasting, but they are definitely not the same. Be aware!
