Value Vet

Best pricing in town and fantastic staff. They offer Feline FVRCP FELV combo (two vaccines) for $ 30 per pet (I have three = $ 90) versus Countryside Animal in Mt Juliet that charges $ 25 per vaccine =$ 50 per pet (3x$ 50=$ 150.) I save $ 60 going to Value Vet each year versus their competitors that charge $ 150. The Dr. Mokhtari is fantastic and they have a wonderful Tech Toni Z. Place is always clean, and I have never waited more than 10 minutes past my appointment time versus their competitor that have left me waiting for an hour (after I was told appointments running on time)! I would highly recommend Value Vet in Hermitage, TN.

I’ll start out by saying I now like to think of Value Vet as the Minute Clinic of pet care. You might want to go here for basic services like puppy visits & shots but don’t take your pet here if they have a real problem.
We wasted literally HUNDREDS of dollars going to this place (well over $ 1000 in total.) We have a dog with allergies. It got really bad and lead to chronic ear, eye, and skin infections. Each time we went to Value Vet they asked the same questions (yes, he eats out of a metal bowl, we only buy good dog food, etc, etc.) which you’d figure would be on his file… And each time, we got a variety of antibiotics, special shampoos, and steroids. Our dog spent over a year in cone b/​c we just couldn’t find anything to calm the allergies. He’d pick at himself which lead to the ear/​eye/​skin infections and we’d be back at the vet.
At one point, we asked he be put on a steroid regimen b/​c that was the only thing that kind of helped. They did a lot of blood work ($$$) then said okay. By the next time we returned for more steroids, they said he’d have to be tested again b/​c it had been over 6 months. I thought they said the tests were good for 1 year.
After suffering through this for ages, I ran into a woman at a dog park who said her dog was put on Apoquel for similar allergies and it had worked miracles. When I asked Value Vet, they said it wasn’t good for dogs and we should see a doggy dermatologist. They referred us but no one ever called us back *thankfully.*
FINALLY, a friend’s dog came down with something similar and she told us her vet was able to fix him. So we took our dog to Hermitage Animal Clinic. They checked him out, we told them our story of all of the runaround we’d be doing, they prescribe Apoquel and he is a changed dog. His quality of life is so much better now. No more cone, rarely licks or scratches, no more infections. Our poor guy suffered for so long and we just trusted Value Vet’s opinion that there wasn’t anything more to be done. Shame on us for not taking him somewhere else sooner. We would have saved our dog lots of misery and ourselves lots of money.

This was my first time personally coming here, though both my parents and sister have brought their pets here. My parents had a bad experience; my sister did not.
My cat fell ill with a uti, so I decided to take a chance and took him in to get antibiotics. I just moved here so did not have a regular vet yet. The vet told me that cats didn’t get urinary tract infections and it was crystals. She attempted to persuade me to get special food. I told her that I wasn’t going to feed him that food because it is full of gluten and corn, which he cannot eat without getting extreme diarrhea and vomitting. Instead I feed him a mostly wet food, grain-​free diet that sufficiently keeps his urine clean. She basically told me I could either have a cat with diarrhea or a dead one. I said I would think about it, and she gave me a script for pain medication but no antibioticsa and said he would feel better in a few days. She did not check his urine there and instead sent me home with a tiny cup of litter that doesn’t soak up anything with instructions to use this to get a sample. He wouldn’t use the litter box with so little litter in it. We sat in a room together for sixteen hours. I finally let him leave the room, and he immediately went to his other box to urinate. We were never able to get the vet a urine sample.
Four days later, he was no better. I took him to another vet who immediately gave us an antibiotic. They tested his urine and found he had a bad bladder infection. Furthermore, his ph levels were completely normal, meaning he isn’t even close to having crystals or bladder stones, and I wish the Value Vet veterinarian would have listened to me.
If I had not gone to a second vet, he would have died from sepsis. I basically paid $ 60 for a lady to almost kill my cat because she doesn’t believe cats get urinary infections. I even explained to her that he has a weird behaviorial issue about me leaving for extended periods of time and him not peeing due to the stress of it, which has caused an infection previously.
I do not advise you take your pet here for anything beyond basic vaccinations.

I work in this horrible office where they use those completely inhumane sticky glue traps for bugs. As this is Middle Tennessee and it’s the fall, little field mice are creeping into the building and getting stuck on these awful traps.
Today is the second time I have had to take one of these mice stuck to one of those awful traps to the Hermitage Value Vet to be saved. And I cannot thank them enough.
It is an awful feeling to find one of these tiny creatures stuck to a sticky pad like that. Their pain and suffering is palpable. We always think of mice as dirty little rodents that carry disease, but when you find one writing and suffering in pain like that it’s a totally different story.
I truly would be heart broken had it not been for the help of the vet and vet techs at Value Vet Hermitage and I cannot thank them enough for their help.
Mouse one, now Jack White, is a pet now. They told me if I released him he would die because he was too little. He has a huge house now and is doing well.
Mouse two, now John Wayne, is at our house recuperating. Once he is feeling better we’ll take him to the park and set him free. I attached pictures so you can see how cute they are :)

I have been pleased with getting immunizations for my pets here in the past, but today, the SECOND MISDIAGNOSIS of one of my pets. A couple of years ago, my cat had allergies– bumps, and itching. She said it was a ‘flea allergy’ — «we see it a lot this time of year» — well, maybe some pets might have flea allergy… I told her my cat stays inside… she still insisted flea allergy and to treat the house with toxic chemicals. I did not believe the diagnosis, and did some due diligence. I found that my cat was, in fact, allergic to the GRAIN in his cat food. I changed to a no-​grain diet, and no more allergies.
Now, today: I was a walk-​in, (and I’ve been a client there for about 5 years). They told me they were booked and the receptionist was, in my opinion, rude– that it would «be awhile». (Only 1 other person was waiting when I arrived.) I said I was willing to wait. Finally, Vet does cursory exam, and pronounces that my dog had a uterine infection and since they send their blood tests out to a lab, it might «be too late» by Monday, because she would need EMERGENCY surgery today. Scared the crap out of me. They recommended another vet — Countryside Veterinary Hospital on Nonaville Rd, Mt. Juliet — who could do the labs in-​house. I left, shaken, and afraid my precious dog was going to die. I pulled over and cried I was so upset I could not drive. I got myself together, and went on to the other vet, as a «walk-​in», was treated with respect and a welcoming attitude. They examined my dog, did blood work and an x-​ray. She did NOT have a uterine infection… she had an upset tummy! They said to give her a bland diet for a couple of days, and gave me some medicine to help her tummy feel better.
I WILL NEVER GO BACK TO VALUE VET! VERY DISPLEASED.

We’ve been to several of the Value Vet locations, depending on which one has appointments available. It’s obvious that they really care about the critters in their care. I like the way that they don’t automatically run up a lot a charges, but discuss various treatment options.

They offer low cost spay/​neuter services. This is 1 of 6 Middle Tennessee locations.

I had the worst experience I’ve ever had at a value vet. I have been taking my dog to one of the Nashville value vets for about 3 years. I called about a prescription for an allergy medicine I needed refilled for my dog. The woman said I had a refill left on the medication and if I took it in I could get it refilled. Upon entering a woman at front asked my number and address went back and said I could not get the refill without an exam. I questioned this as the prescription had a refill left on it. She said whoever filled it last time shouldn’t have without an exam. Even though my dog had an exam for another medicine less than a year ago. I do not feel comfortable paying another 33 $ for someone to to put a stethoscope on my dog and feel her legs and take her temp… When it had been done less than a year ago. An exam would not show she has allergies, which she has been on medicine for two years. The woman at front was not helpful and did not want to listen to anything I was saying. At this point I’m going to take my dog and all our business elsewhere. I frequent dog parks and people new to the area often ask what vet we go to, I will from this point recommend anywhere but value vet and let all my friends know what an awful experience this was.

I enjoy the convenience of value vet. The staff have always treated my scaredy-​kat Great Danes with patience & kindness. I love the value I receive on vaccinations and basic care

I want to thank and commend the staff at Value Vet of Hermitage for their patience, compassion and expertise. Today (6÷13÷12) they helped me send my dog Barley to a better place. He was terribly sick. It was a horrible decision to make, but the staff made it as pain free for both Barley as well as us. I’m sorry I can’t remember any of your names, but know that you are much appreciated.

This place is great-​if your dog needs a rabies shot only, they will get a rabies shot only and you will be charged for a rabies shot only. If they need an exam as well you can get that too. The thing is with them is that they do not add random charges and fees onto your bill for stupid things like blood test or stool samples if it’s not necessary. i have 4 pets and the vet visits can get pretty costly but Value Vet keeps the bills to a minimum. The staff is great and you can tell they genuinely care about your pet and animals in general.
