RACISTBARTENDERS in 2016. Like many other reviewers, I too experienced racial discrimination at this establishment. The caucasian bartender purposely ignored me despite clearly being next in line. As I patiently waited for my drink order to be taken I was day dreaming & tampering with my credit card & that is when he finally acknowledged me long enough to nastily say, «Don’t do that». I wasn’t sure what exactly he was referring too, but he walked away without taking my order nonetheless. At that point I gave up & walked away. DONOTSUPPORTTHISRACISTESTABLISHMENT. If you are not caucasian, be forewarned & prepared for mistreatment & repulsive customer service. They may as well hang a «whites only» sign in front of this pathetic bar.

Unless you have about 5 different forms of ID, do not visit this location. I have been to other Sharkeez locations before but this one in particular must have major issues with fake IDs. Awhile back I decided to come here with my boyfriend and at the door they carded me which is normal… I hand the guy my ID and he asks me «are you 21?»… A little taken aback by the question, I answered, «well yes, look at my ID.» He then gets an attitude with me and raises his voice and says«it’s my job to ask you if you’re 21!» Whoa okay so I went inside but then it got worse… The bartender cards me… Umm? So I hand him my ID… Then he asks for a DIFFERENT photo ID… So I hand him my college ID… at this point I have been very patient but my patience ran out when he said that my two IDs were not good enough and then I showed him my credit card with my name in it and said I’m sorry, that’s all I have. HEREFUSEDTOSERVEME! I was so upset! Then a manager walks up and tells me about how this is a «multi million dollar company«and they have to protect themselves… I also work for a multi million dollar company and that’s not how you respond to a customer. We ended up leaving because obviously I wasn’t going to be served. I never once cursed at anyone, raised my voice, or any of that none sense. I look young but I was definitely of age and had proper identification. I will never visit this location again. I tell anyone who asks about Sharkeez this story and they can’t believe it. Sharkeez needs to make sure their«multi million dollar company» can afford an ID scanner to check for fake IDs and stop letting the staff drink during their shifts.

Honestly I’ve heard the stories about this place but I didn’t want to believe them. My buddies and I went to enjoy a drink and spend some money on a Sunday afternoon at so called«sharkeez». The rent-a-cop security dude tells me my chain is too big for dress code? Didn’t let us in… I told him at first I would hide it under my shirt and sweater and he refused to let us in. At this point I’m upset and I I’m most certain this was more of a racial discrimination act! I was shocked! to become a part of the bad statistic of this establishment! How shame full. If you’re not Caucasian beware! There might be some kind of dress code or rule to help the establishment keep you away!

Yeah it smells weird sometimes and there are a few people who think they are the sh*t who work there but the music is good on certain nights and always loud. The food is fine TOTHEPEOPLECOMPLAININGABOUTSUGARYDRINKS: stop ordering your damn lava colada sugar packed drinks. Order a freaking vodka water or whisky on the rocks and just drink it LOL. A lot of people think the workers here are racist against black people but they aren’t. I’ve seen every race of people get charged for cover or kicked out for misconduct or not let in because of dress code. No. You can’t wear baggy pants or dickies or chains or plain white tee shirts. I’ve seen all kinds of guys not let in because of that.

One of the bartenders is a rude jerk! He pretty much ruined our night. He was rude from the start but when we finally ordered, I was holding out my credit card to pay. Someone snatched it from my hand while I was turning away and I assumed it was him. He asked for my card and I told him he took it already. He said«you’re telling me that one of us took your card but we don’t have it.» He didn’t even give me a moment to take out a new card to pay. He took the drinks away immediately and told us we were a waste of his time. He said way more and had absolutely no patience or customer service skills! I don’t know how he even works with people. Sharkeez should know that bartenders are the reason many people return to the bar or not. This guy is neither attractive or good at his job. Worthless bartender. He claimed his name was M. Cortina… If he even gave me the right name. Go to American Junkie instead. Turns out a guy behind me snatched the card from my hand and later claimed I dropped it. In an attempt to talk to us. Bartender thought I was making it up.

One of the more noticeable highlights of living in Hermosa Beach is having the proximity to a variety of bars and beach restaurants. Baja Sharkeez is without a doubt one of the staples for anyone who has lived in the South Bay area, and that’s saying something for anyone who’s been there. The beer selection is solid and the service is fantastic, but come Sunday, it can get surprisingly crowded and rowdy in there! Great location since it’s right by the pier off of Hermosa Ave!

Rob«1», our floor runner was on point, our food came out perfect, and warm and delicious. Music playing was fun, place was busy as we expected during lunchtime and Rob never missed a beat, our big group was welcomed and we had a fun lunch … thanks Rob and crew … Keep up the great work!

While by no means fancy, Baja Sharkeez usually equals a good time out and tasty sugar laden drinks all around! Service was great, they keep their cool even when the place gets packed which is daily. Prices are great given the area which is why we stopped in, nice break from $ 16 cosmos. The location is cool, simple, no need to be dressed up, very casual and fun. Happy hour specials to make the prices even better, huge food and drink menu, impossible to decide what to get so bring a bunch of friends and try it all!

Good times were had here! The staple of HB pier, this place was the beginning of my many adventure that I have taken in the past decade. I started coming here back in my Navy years, as I would drive up from SD on the weekends and come here with my old friends. I was a regular back then, and I would be treated as such, even scoring free drinks for being a service member. I tipped well, of course. Sometime in 2006, the bar burned down but was rebuilt. Now it has a completely new layout, and has a higher capacity of people. It is more modern in décor, and the restrooms are upstairs. Much like before the fire, I advise people to get here a bit earlier, as it is the most popular of all the bars, and the line can get impossible to get through(unless you’re coming with a lot of girls). Like any of my usual spots, I usually don’t have a problem getting in or finding seating(which can also get scarce early in the night). The drinks are pretty good and priced comparably to other HB bars. The crowd is mostly South Bay locals, with a bit of transplants mixed in. I feel right at home coming here, and you will too if you become a regular. It’s a great alternative to Hollywood and Sunset.

Bro culture invades Hermosa Beach. I should totally hate this place, but I cannot thanks to the service and great Caesar Kale Salad they put on. In the area on business, I needed a lunch spot that had vegan friendly options for a colleague and after a fast conversation with a hostess/waitress, Baja Sharkeez of all places on the Strand made the grade. I walked in at noon on a Monday and it was already Bro and Bro-Hoe MANIA. I am talking about a place packed wall to wall with white guys donning Famous Stars and Straps t-shirts(complete with sequins/sparkling objects), cut off Dickies, black socks, skate shoes, Skin Sunglasses and the prerequisite flat billed hat. Also, «Dude», «Bro» and«Man» is said incessantly in Sharkeez, unless of course its from a female, then you will get a lot of «EWW», «like» and«whatever». Oh and Axe body spray. Lots of it. I would really hate this place on a Saturday night, I could tell. As for my lunch however, the Caesar Kale Salad came through with flying colors. Baby kale, chopped hearts of romaine, pico de gallo, pepitas, and cojita cheese are tossed in a cilantro laced Ceasar dressing and nearly a dozen small grilled shrimp round out the experience. Light, bright and delicious… the best way to enjoy this dish is facing the ocean and drinking an IPA. Let’s face it, the crowd alone begs for this review to be one of Joe P.‘s 2 star Tuesdays but I have to keep it trill and drop 3 star love on the Baja Sharkeez Brodeo lunch experience. Come for lunch, leave when Sublime comes on.

The reason to go here is obviously Taco Tuesday. Excellent street gourmet tacos served for $ 1.75 a piece. They are low in calories and are a delicious treat. Since I work nearby, I tend to indulge myself for this cheap but tasty lunch The tacos are served in Asada, Chicken, Fried Fish and Shrimp. The chicken and fried fish are my personal favorites here. Also there are some moderate sized tacos for $ 2.99 and 2 of these tacos seem to fill an average adult. In that sense the Mahi Mahi with Guac is a really good choice! It sits right on the walkway to the Hermosa Pier making it a good lunch option of a Tuesday for locals and tourists alike. I would suggest a nice walk along the pier after lunch here, it is really an amazing treat.

I have been to the Baja Sharkeez at Hermosa Beach as well as in Santa Barbara. I have to say that this particular Sharkeez is very clean with a professional and friendly staff. There is a nice Illini crowd to watch the Illinois games when they are on Saturday mornings, and the breakfast is a great deal, especially when you factor in 1 hr of mimosas.

Cool location on the pier, but really just a big sports bar with a big College/Frat kid scene. Food is on par with El Torito, drinks are super sweet and never strong enough. The service is friendly despite the frantic nature of the place, the guys and gals on staff always do their best. The patio is cool for people watching, but in the end, this seems to be the best known reference point on the pier that gets a little too saturated for my taste. Have a quick drink and head out or sit back and enjoy a game, just manage your expectations.

No place better embodies the beach life struggle than Sharkeez. Good food, cheap prices, huge menu, great drinks, are the plus. But… Inlanders getting trashed, dude bro’s looking for reasons to chest puff, drunks spilling, people falling– it’s a disaster after 9pm. It’s not racist, it’s not bad service, it’s just overwhelmed when it gets busy. As for service– it’s self serve inside, you are just confused. The atmosphere is basically a loud crowded club. So… Sit outside to get a waiter or waitress. Come early to avoid the inland crowd that flocks here. Lots of annoying types call Sharkeez home after 9pm and on weekends. I repeat they are annoying! If you are inside help isn’t coming. It’s self serve only inside! They have a system, ask the bartender. Get chips in back. They are ok and free. Warning: crap atmosphere once the bro’s and down townies arrive. But great food and lots of good drinks. Summary: Cheap, good eats amongst really annoying tourists.

Everything about this place seriously sucks. If I could give it 0 stars I would. I don’t understand why everyone in college came here when they turned 21. The only pro I could think of is that it’s right on the beach(which is cool but doesn’t even really matter) and the bartender gave me a free jello shot. Other than that, the place smells like ass when you walk in and I wish I was exaggerating. It gets pretty packed and the crowd there is… interesting. It took me maybe 20 minutes just to get to the bathroom because I was stuck in a mosh pit full of people who would not let me through. I spent most of my time outside at the patio tables and just went in and out to order drinks. They stop selling fish bowls after a certain time(around 9pm or 10pm) which is ridiculous because they could make so much more money. Also, their mixed drinks are 90% ice, so I ended up drinking beer the entire night. I parked in the back parking lot, which you have to pay for by spot, and I asked the bouncer to let me out so I could pay for more hours and he was a complete asshole about it and told me I would have to wait in line again. UMYEAHRIGHT. I ended up getting back in fine because another bouncer recognized me after I complained. Sitting outside, I watched as the line grew bigger with more people wanting to come it as it was already packed. There is a cover charge after 10pm and as if I didn’t think the place couldn’t get any worse, my group and I witnessed the the bouncers charging more for people of color. I had a clear view of the cash register from where I was sitting. We even asked different groups of people how much they paid and all the prices were inconsistent. Discrimination and racism at an establishment at its finest. This place is trash.

Finally a night out with my girls after finals! My friend brought me here and it’s awesome. This place is chill and right next to the beach. How cool. So that night. I had one beer, a jello shot, and a fish bowl! The jello shot was pretty strong and it kind of threw me off. Lol I was like yuck but hey you get what you pay for! So I assume it should be strong. Haha and omggg the fish bowl… Mmm yum yum. We got the donkey punch and it was delicious. You can barely taste the alcohol. Sorry guys, I am a beginner with this. And I got that asian glow so that sucks! Haha I’m not the greatest with alcohol but hey I still try my best :) OH and I tried their seasoned fries. Oh man it was delicious. Overall, I had a great time. It was a much needed girl’s night out. I will come back again soon. Love it!

I came here last year and fell in love with this place immediately. It’s right at Hermosa Beach and it has tables outside and it is wide open to the inside of the restaurant as well. The food was delicious and priced average. They had a drink specials going on which is always nice. The staff was prompt and friendly. This was the perfect place to people watch, as we were sitting at a table outside, unwind, have a beer, and enjoy the relaxing atmosphere. If I lived here, this would definitely be my hangout spot!
