Edith Rodaway Friendship Park

This is a small park with a grassy area and a basketball court.
Grassy area is mostly enclosed by a fence and parts of the area is above street level. Since you can’t always see the grass, first timers will wonder where the fence ends /​where the entrance is. An entrance is on the street opposite the basket ball court.
Grassy area has sparse and poorly kept grass — we are in a drought so that’s what you’d expect. The grass and the area is quite bumpy, making it a little difficult for small kids, soccer sports and the like.
Older trees populate corners of this park, providing a bit of refuge from this Saharan heat we’ve been having lately.
Best aspect of this park is that it is sponsored by the Hermosa Beach Friends of Parks. Come early October, the nonprofit organization hosts a small neighborhood party for about 50 kids. There are games, hot dogs, popcorn, pumpkin decorating, marionette performance… All for $ 1 – 5 to fundraiser for the park. The event is a nice opportunity for kids to don their costumes and prepare for Halloween.

A fun little grassy park with some nice big trees and a basketball court. Dogs are supposed to be on leash, but are often off. Beware dog owners as there is a person in a nearby house that calls animal control quite often though. And nobody appreciates the dog owners that don’t pick up after their four legged pals.

I came to the fall festival here. It was a neat set up for small children. The puppet show was entertaining!

It’s an absolutely lovely outdoor space.
It is a bit odd, however, in that there’s a large basketball court & even some picnic areas, but no bathroom facilities. Not that that’s a bad thing necessarily, but kinda unusual.
There is a drinking fountain however… but don’t drink too much, there’s no potty! Haha!
The picnic areas have no bar-​b-​cues, see photos. The settings are pretty though, under and around nice big shade trees. The grassy areas are lush with attractive landscaping.
The homes bordering this park must have cool views, I was envious. Only one person was in the park on a Saturday afternoon, a man sitting at one of the tables with a book.
