I thought I had tried it all… And then today Brandi recommends the BLT with cheddar cheese and avocado and when I tell you that I cried a little after the first bite I’m not lying. The BLT has to be the best in town! Maybe it was the added cheese and the delicious bacon that topped it off for me. Whatever the case, if you’re looking to treat yourself you MUST try the BLT add cheese and avocado and you will NOT regret it!!!

Avocado Toast Special from Gum Tree in Hermosa Beach. Buckwheat Toast, Avocado Spread, Goat Cheese, Bacon, Red Chili Flakes, and a side of Maple Syrup. Truth be told I did modify it a bit. Maple Syrup was suppose to be on it(didn’t need it at all). I added the Chili Flakes. This dish was heavenly. Decadent but light. Fatty but feels healthy. Flavor explosion with subtle balance. It made me feel so good after I ate it. That’s what food is intended for anyways. Not to send your body into a food coma or give you the«itis”(my sharp people will get this). Gum Tree is so local and so great. Prices are a touch high but it’s worth it. I might be on an avocado toast search now, for the«best of the best”(RIP Chris Penn). Avocado is truly the #1 super food(but bacon might be 1a).

Gumtree is my favorite place to have coffee, grab breakfast, or a light lunch. Ingredients are fresh and ambiance is extremely charming! The avacado toast with egg whites and chili flakes is amazing, I also love the bruschetta special when it’s available! Whether you’re a local who hasn’t tried this spot or a tourist looking for a cute place to grab breakfast/coffee you can’t go wrong with gumtree! P. S. They brew Lavazza Coffee which is amazing!

I love all things Aussie, and this place is totally adorable, airy and serving tasty food. Super nice owners who’ve curated a great selection of miscellaneous foodie/beachy/cool gifts(for yourself) in their cute adjacent little shop.

Cute little craftsman home converted into an organic café & gift shop owned by an Australian husband & wife team. Stopped by here to grab lunch w/my mom. Parking: Found metered street parking(non beach season, so its easy). There’s seating inside & outside. It was a little cool out, so we opted to sit inside. Note: you have to climb steps to get into café or shop. Café is on the left side, shop on the right. Ambiance: Casual, beach café. Only a few tables inside. Food: I had their special salad of the day: Chinese Chicken Salad. It was exactly what I was looking for. Cabbage, grilled chicken & nuts. Dressing was light & perfect.(Yes, I’m recovering from Thanksgiving.) Mom had the free-range chicken breast sandwich w/goat cheese, roasted tomato, pesto on buckwheat. I had a bite and it was delicious. Plus, served w/organic greens. We would have stayed for a coffee, but a line formed out the door. Great neighborhood café; contrasts completely with all the places on the pier.

This is my second time to this café, hoping for a redemption round. Having lived in Australia for a year I loved their flat whites and could never find any(until Starbucks made them)…so I was super excited to stumble across this Aussie café. The flat white, even the second time around was pretty bad. I ordered a soy flat white with 2 shots of espresso. The drink was more milk than coffee flavored and the foam was pitiful. No smooth silky micro foam, but instead large tasteless bubbles. The food on the other hand was tasty, I got a breakfast sandwich. The selection of Aussie fare was comforting and pretty spot on with veggiemite sandwiches, avo toast, and even Tim Tams. So overall I give this place 3 stars, 2 for their flat whites. Maybe their lattes are better but for an Aussie establishment my expectations were higher. If you’re looking for a proper flat white, I suggest Two Guns on Sepulveda in Manhattan Beach. They have it down to perfection.

I am really pleased with the Gum tree the atmosphere is great. My living in Hermosa Beach is since 4/years And I never went to the gum tree. But since 2 weeks I am every day there. I just like the great neutral colors and respect for the customers. My usual walk was to Java Coffee but the atmosphere is for hard grown people with only Mexican mix ground. I took the gum tree for the best of my heart and my peace of my morning start. After two months of Gumtree I got a talk probably with an employee. She said could I speak to you for a moment. She starts I should not talk to customers even their talked to me. She was only angry that’s I try only to do a joke onetime with the tea and ding dong said. I am disappointed that way her inappropriate content and over doing last to the end I am a customer and not an employee. Who can say that to a customer? Anstate just to say she didn’t liked it I come between the rush to get my refill. I am a human and I am good to everyone and adult enough 37 years. But I don’t want split hair just forget about it. I know in some person get through my personal appeared offensive.

This place is awesome! It’s a shop and also a restaurant. They sell gorgeous accessories and gifts. Their mocha is just delicious and the white chocolate scone is a must try! I love avocado so I was so happy when I realized that they have avocado on a toast. I need to come back to ry the organic toasted quinoa salad. The location is great, very close to the beach. Parking is difficult during weekends

Had a quick breakfast stop here before a day at a local spa… there was a little bit of a wait for our food on the patio, but it was a gorgeous Hermosa Beach day so it was fine. Ordered a very interesting ‘toasted’ quinoa with dried fruit… I guess I thought it would be more like a crispy cereal or actually ‘toasted’ but it was served in the same fashion one might get in a salad. Regardless, it was tasty… the added fruit and nuts made it all the more enjoyable. My friend had the avocado toast; really nice! Avocado spread on toast with feta and a drizzle of balsamic with a side of really good fruit. Overall, a very healthy breakfast on a patio with a great view for people(or traffic) watching. :) I’d go back… they have a small shop attached but we didn’t have enough time on this outing to check it out. Next time!

Cute little café in Hermosa. The only Australian fare on the menu is the avocado toast, but this place offers fresh American-style café fare, nonetheless. I ordered the Greek salad and an herbal iced tea. It was good. What I liked the most was the atmosphere, very beautiful interior and a pleasant patio. I sat here for 90 minutes to enjoy CA bliss under the sun.

We live within walking distance and stroll by this coffee shop /eatery all the time. And that’s the thing — we usually walk past it to go somewhere else. I get that it’s popular but its not my bag. It’s tiny and, perhaps, the small size of the location inspires small portions? I like my coffees, salads, sandwiches and desserts to be a bit more substantial. Thank goodness there are now more neighborhood options for healthy meals.

AVOCADOTOAST: this café is adorable! The Avocado Toast was really good. It was pricy and I kept thinking this is something I could make at home… although I still haven’t(toast, avocado, chili flakes, egg). I was impressed with the freshness of their fruit salad(which included sweet mango!) There are are a few tables inside and more outside. Will definitely come back.

This place is located on the main drag in Hermosa Beach with lots of shops and small eateries. Free street parking until 10am which makes it perfect for breakfast. Place your order inside and the food is brought to you Carl’s Jr style. Dog friendly patio features water bowls and free dog biscuits. As such, pooches and their people seem to love this place. I had a croissant sandwich, which was nothing special. Just egg, tomato and cheese in a croissant seared by panini press. It came with fresh fruit. I loved that they are dog friendly. I love that there is a home goods boutique attached. I loved the open patio seating that looks down on Pier street. This is a great place to start the day or recover after a workout.

Gum Tree is a cute little café with a nice store attached to it. I love the service and the food is good. I’ve had the butternut squash soup and I didn’t like it, but not because it wasn’t good… simply because I don’t think I like butternut squash. I’ve had the vegan chili and a green soup that’s zucchini something and they’re both amazing. The girls at the front are really sweet and friendly. They have little snacks at the counter including TIMTAMS! Yummy in my tummy. All in all, the café is cute and their soups and service are great. I just had the chicken pesto sandwich once and it didn’t blow me away. I would love to keep trying more.

I finally checked this place out after living nearby for years. Why did I wait so long?! I came with a large group. We found seating immediately in the small outdoor patio, but it was during non peak hours. If you’re planning on getting food here at the breakfast or lunch hour, you may want to take your food to go and enjoy it at the beach instead. Like the seating area, the menu is small and straightforward. But not in a bad way. This place makes simple sandwiches and salads with just enough of a twist to make them stand out from other nearby eateries. They do what they do very well. I enjoyed the chicken breast sandwich. My lady enjoyed the BLT. Both were fantastic, as was the accompanying salad(you can substitute for fruit). I’ve also heard the breakfast here is outstanding, but have yet to experience it firsthand(soon though!). All in all, it’s a very nice place to grab a quick bite to eat. I’ll definitely be back.

I was in the area for work and Unilocaled around for a quick lunch spot. Parking is street. It was a small but cozy and cute café. It’s like a house as you walk up the stairs, the left side is the café and the right a small boutique. The inside is pretty small and has a few seats but there is plenty of seats outside. The menu is simple. A few breakfast items, sandwiches, salads, savory pies and beverages. _BLT($ 7.50) Chipotle aioli on sourdough(add avocado$ 1.50). This BLT had tomato which I was not a fan of. You can never go wrong with a BLT. I added avocado as well as egg whites. That made a simple BLT to a great morning sandwich. The bread was nicely toasted. And I like that they mashed the avocado instead of slicing it in chunks. I realize that always makes the avocado slip out or the whole sandwich hard to eat. Good amount of bacon and nicely cooked. I could not taste much of the aioli. I loved the dressing on the side salad. It was a sweet and citrus flavor that has a nice potent mustard flavor to it. I wanted to try their popular avocado toast, but I was pretty hungry and that sounded more of a snack to me. Maybe next time if I’m the area I will give it a try. White you wait for the food, I would recommend checking out the small shop to kill some time. They have some nice jewerly and other great items.

Hermosa Beach locals know this is a great spot to enjoy brunch or lunch just a couple blocks away from the bustle of the Hermosa Pier. This cozy Australian themed café is situated in a converted house and offers good indoor and outdoor seating options. Every time I come here to eat it feels like such a treat! Food is great, I usually get one of the sandwiches with side salad or fruit. You can’t go wrong with either side but lately I’ve been picking the fruit which is really fresh and includes perfectly ripe mango which I love. The Australian meat pies are okay but a bit on the small side. If you’re having a serious craving for a savory meat pie I would actually recommend Bronzed Aussie in DTLA. I’m not a big coffee drinker but I hear the coffee here is pretty good and sometimes get the iced chai latte which I always enjoy. Staff friendliness and customer service here are top notch. There was one time I came here by myself for lunch and my order got skipped. I was waiting for a while and people who ordered after me were getting their food. Without me having to say anything, a staff person recognized what had happened, apologized, made sure my food came out next, and then gave me a voucher for a free meal on my next visit. A++++!

I have never been to an Australian café until I stepped inside of Gum Tree. The location is very cute and homey but unfortunately is only open until 4PM. You walk in, you place your order, take your number card, and take a seat on their lovely patio or the inside of the café(where tables and seating arrangements are quite limited). All the food here is fresh, healthy, and a little more on the pricey side. However, the food is all really good. I don’t recommend getting the coffee here because they are pretty watery or milky and doesn’t taste too strong. I’ve tried both the café latte and mocha. Both I wasn’t too fond of. I usually come in here during breakfast/lunch and it is usually filled with beach moms catching up with other beach moms. I say a huge demographic of this café is women. Anyways, food wise I really enjoy their salads. I am a huge sucker for their beet salad with arugula and goat cheese. The salad is dressed with a refreshing and citrusy vinaigrette and the goat cheese balances the bitterness of the arugula quite nicely. They also add some crunchy beans that adds a nice bite to the salad. You think a salad won’t be so filling, but they give you a lot here. I also love their avocado toast for breakfast. A nice crunchy piece of toast smothered with fatty, creamy, and delicious avocado. You can add this with a nice runny egg on top too. I have never tried any of their pastries here but it looks pretty popular. Definitely a hidden gem in Hermosa. Parking is a little annoying especially during summers and warm days. You can either park on the street(which is pretty hard to find) or park in the structure down on 12th street.
