Abreu Jose J MD

I’ve been going to Dr. Abreu for 22 years, and HE is wonderful. That being said, his staff leaves much to be desired. Thankfully, he is such an excellent doctor that I can overlook their flaws, but if you’re expecting a warm and fuzzy experience from the people who work in his office, don’t bother.
1. After 22 years, I still get asked if this is my first time here.
2. Hardly anyone speaks English and if they do, they don’t speak it to me, even though I write on the form that English is my preferred language.
3. The admitting nurse (no English) hands me a stick and points to the bathroom with zero instructions. Thankfully I KNOW what to do (pee and put the stick in the pee) but what if this was my first time?
4. Same nurse takes my blood pressure and tells me NOTHING. (Hint: most people would like to know!)
5. Young (male)intern is brought in for my gynecological exam. He’s introduced, but no one asks if I’m ok with him being there while Dr. Abreu examines me.
6. YOUNG MALE INTERN IS ON HIS CELLPHONE THE ENTIRE TIME THE DOCTOR IS EXAMINING ME. Yes, you read that correctly. First… how unprofessional can you get. Second, that is extremely unnerving for a patient. I don’t know if he’s recording this, secretly taking pics, or what. I’m sure he was just checking his Facebook (he looked all of 20 years old), but you never know. And no one said a word.
So in conclusion, while the doctor himself is very knowledgable, trustworthy, and has a wonderful bedside manner, his staff is atrocious and needs some serious overhauling. I love Dr. Abreu, but I never recommend him to my friends because of what I know they’re sure to endure at the hands of his inept staff. :(

This is the most amazing Doctor ever! If your looking for a GYN this is your man. It took me several years and my best friend to convince me to switch with him. Once I went in for a visit that was it. He is not only a great Doc but a great person. He makes you feel so comfortable and he’s all ears to all your problems and questions. Make sure if you want to visit him you make your appointment way in advance.
