This is a typical Cuban restaurant. Staff is friendly, good portion of food. The restaurant is clean and looks pretty new. On both visits I had the steak sandwich and my company had the malanga soup which she said was good. Both dishes were good, nothing spectacular.

I may have been one of the first customers at the new Hialeah location of Rinconcito Latino in Hialeah, and believe that it has potential to be a great comfort food spot. Let’s start with the good stuff: I got there around closing time, and they let me finish my meal. The wait staff was really pleasant and the portions HUMONGEOUS! I ordered a Pollo Milanese(Cuban-style chicken parm) and couldn’t finish it. They even customized it going light on the cheese and heavy on the sauce. My sides were the classic moro(red beans and rice) y maduros(sweet plantains). I started with a side of mariquitas(green plantain chips) as well. I didn’t have space for a full dessert, but loved my cortadito, and like how they sweetened it with cinnamon instead of regular sugar. First thing they could improve is the sound system. It seemed like they had two radios set to different stations each, along with a TV. I was the only patron there, and the multiple sound systems were kicking my ADD into overdrive :) The mariquitas were perfect: just crispy and not greasy. I wasn’t feeling the rich honey mustard dressing. Maybe I’ll ask for the traditional garlic one next time. As far as the Milanesa, the sauce tasted a little like«regular» pasta sauce. Both from other Cuban spots and family cooking, I’m used to the milanesa sauce being a little sweeter than traditional marinara. As it were, I googled a few recipes for the sauce and they do mention a little sugar.
