Larry’s Music & Sound

Larry’s is my go-​to place for any of my music needs. No, they don’t have the same selection as a large store like Guitar Center, but I would choose the service here any day. Plus, he can order almost anything you need at a great price. Larry is very knowledgeable and helpful, and is willing to help you find what you actually want/​need rather than just make a sale. The guitar tech, Scott Fox, is world class; he does some of the best work I’ve ever seen. His setups are far above even those that I’ve had done by a large store in Chicago. The repairman, Scott Gragg, also does excellent work, and is very knowledgeable and helpful.
They’ve also done sound installation at my church… a high quality system at a great price. Nothing we didn’t need/​want, and well designed. Their live sound production at Hickory’s Oktoberfest is top-​notch as well.

A nice little music shop owned by Larry himself in the tiny town of Hickory NC. It is right in downtown in the strip mall towards one end.
A smallish shop but has quality items. A decent assortment of electric guitars and basses, keyboards, speakers, mixers, acoustic guitars, banjos, travel sized acoustics, classical guitars, acoustic and electric drumsets. An abundance of accessories as well.
The staff is knowledgeable and very friendly. They let me hang out and try out the different instruments.
I was very impressed with the overall friendliness and helpfulness of the staff and Larry. I ended up trying out a very nicely made classical guitar and in fact, bought it that same day.
I have no complaints about this business. I would only increase the selection of instruments. Of course, this is a small business, not a Guitar Center so I should not expect a warehouse of instruments. The employees are great here. Support the local music scene. 4.25 stars.
