North Carolina – Division of Motor Vehicles – NCDOT DMV

I am happy for the people that went there and had a good experience. I really am, unfortunately it’s not my story. I was there 3 times so far, once I even had a appointment and still couldn’t solve anything. Waiting in line for almost 1h and 30 min. I was able to hear every person that would walk in. And it didn’t matter the reason people where there, one guy had only 2 answers:
1 «Here is what I can do for you, come back tomorrow»
2 «You can do that on line»
Really? Why are you there for? There are older people that may not even have a computer. It is your job the help. You are payed to do that.
I understand that they are busy and they are definitely understaffed but they take their time like we don’t have anything else to do then stay there and wait for them .
After a lot of frustration, I went to the office in Newton. What a difference. A lot of people there too, but the attitude was totally different. Nice stuff with a smile on their face. They are actually getting the job done instead of keep telling you to come «tomorrow» .
So if you live in Hickory area and need DMV service for any reason, do yourself a favor and drive to Newton.

The staff here are exceptionally friendly and helpful. They make bureaucracy easy to navigate!

Best Drivers License Office I’ve ever found
Over the years, I’ve visited a number of DMV offices to either get or renew my Driver’s License. Has never been a lot of pleasure and I even had one case where they would not renew my Driver’s License because I was dead. Even though I was standing there and was obviously not dead, I still had to go home and get two forms of identification (one with photo) to prove who I was.
Not the case this time. Lost my wallet and needed to get a duplicate. Walked in, virtually no line, and all five stations were occupied. Took a number which was called in less than 5 minutes and was processed immediately.
This place has got their act together and I wish other locations could or would do the same.

Absolutely the only DMV I go to. I love them. Quick. Courteous. And a always a little humor. I was in and out for a name change in less than 10 mins.

Large crowds, but staff moves people through efficiently and quickly!
