In the space that used to be the expensive Ragmhall restaurant is now a wonderful inexpensive Vegetarian Indian restaurant. Dosa world may be bare bones in its décor, however the food is wonderfully full of flavor. Parking is easy with their rear lot and back entrance. The staff was extremely attentive and the menus provides a great overview of the dishes for diners like me that are not familiar with all of the items. We had the appetizer sampler with this incredible coconut chutney for a dipping sauce. We also has the behl puri appetizer which was crunchy and had just the right amount of spice. For my main I had the Rava Dosa with Paneer Masala. The onion baked in is terrific and the cheese, potato mixture was full of flavor. Again, with some of their amazing coconut chutney(and some tamarind), I devoured that large dosa in no time at all! For dessert, a delicious Halwa A la mode. A perfect ending to a wonderful meal.

No, you don’t come here for the atmosphere. Nor the cocktails(nor, for that matter, the beer or the wine). You come here for a 5-star dosa coma! And you know what? These babies are worth the stark sobriety. Simply put: The Best Dosai I’ve probably ever had. There are a lot of dosa options now in Hicksville. Off topic: whenever people claim that the suburbs are lacking in variety and are all chain-obsessed, I love to point out that they are wrong. At least they are wrong about Long Island. And the Greater Toronto Area, but that’s a topic for another review. Hicksville is Long Island’s Little India. The first time I had a dosa was at House of Dosa, roughly 8 years ago. I was used to and adored Northern Indian fare for decades, again thanks to my parents’ rather adventurous ways when it comes to cuisine of various ethnicities. But Southern Indian food is a whole other, spicy delicious vegetarian world. I prefer dosai over uttapam because I just love the thin, crispy crêpe. Also, dosai remind me of potato chips(I love potato chips). Not that I’d ever kick an uttapam out of bed or anything. House of Dosa, which is very close to Dosa World, is good. Chennai, also good. Dosa World, however is even better. Last night I had the mushroom masala dosa and asked for gunpowder spices to make it as spicy as I need it(Indian spicy, if you will. NOT white girl spicy). Normally I can’t finish my dosa after eating what I always get as a first course, idly in rasam, but because the dosai here are so perfectly crispy and thin, not to mention incredibly delicious, I devoured the entire thing, along with the mushroom/potato filling ANDTHE sambar. And, ahem, the divine coconut chutney, too! Another thing: any dishes that contain dairy are clearly marked. There’s no meat dishes lousing up the menu, either! I urge you to bring your Indian food-loving friends here, especially if they are vegan/vegetarian.

This place is awesome. The food is very tasty and it does seem the owner takes personal interest in making sure all the customers are happy. We have visited this place lunch buffet and it is very good both price wise and taste wise. Keep up the good work.

Great food. Went for my mom’s birthday under recommendation and was not dissapointed. Very attentive waiters too, something house of dosas didn’t have last time I went.

Great food and great service. Chocolate dosa was a great desert treat. Great place for good wholesome South Indian dosa served with a smile. Coconut chutney was great and so was the sambar

Visited this place for a second time and enjoyed it just as much as the first time. As a south indian and fan of south indian food, I would say this place beats many others with respect to quality. It seems like they infuse more flavor than they dump oil and butter– a common issue with many Indian restaurants. Moreover, the staff and store owner are very attentive and friendly. We had a 2-year old with us and the owner kindly presented her with a mango lassi… he made a new friend for sure. They don’t serve breakfast, but the store opens at 11:30 and buffet is ready around 11:40, so I would say it’s best to come then when the food is hot and the place is quiet. There’s a variety of dosas and uttappam to choose from, along with many(scrumptious!) vegetarian curries and sides. For those who have never tried them, dosa(DTHO-sha) is a thin, rice flour cake that may be ordered with filling, and uttapam(OO-tha-pum) is a rice-flour pancake made with/without toppings like onions and bell peppers. If it’s your first time doing south indian, I recommend the buffet. You’ll get a feel for the type and flavors of the food and you get one dosa or uttapam too, so you won’t miss out. Be adventurous, don’t be shy to ask questions, and specify your preferences for spiciness. Don’t forget to get chai afterwards! It’s not your starbucks chai latte– it’s an authentic masala chai.mmm.

I came here with one of my Indian friends and even he was raving about it. The lunch buffet is only $ 8.75, so I was a little worried about the quality of the food, but it really was excellent. Besides the 5 or 6 dishes you get with the buffet, they also bring out dosa and iddali. You can pick from about 10 different dosa depending on the filling and amount of spice you prefer. Can’t beat this deal for the price and the great food. The waiter was very helpful as well, guiding us on what we should order/stay away from. If you’re in the area and looking for an authentic Indian lunch that’s a great deal, this is the place!

5 Star food 3 Star service. I ordered a masala dosa and North Indian thali– both were phenomenal. However, the staff, though warm, were very inattentive. We waited 30min for the bill after multiple attempts to flag down staff. Will definitely go again for the food.

Six of us went tonight and we all ordered different things and tried everything on the table. The dosas were fantastic and so was the channa masala, the soups, and the breads. The poori was outstanding, as were the pakoras and the gobi manchurian, which is a cauliflower appetizer, seasoned and glazed. For dessert we had khir, badam halwa, and the chocolate dosa. All amazing. The coffee was exceptional, and the masala tea was delicious. The waiters were very attentive, and the owner was as well. Everyone in our party is looking forward to coming back! 2÷24÷16− Went again tonight with a friend who never tried Indian food. We went especially for the chocolate dosa and it was amazing as always. The owner and staff are so kind and friendly. My friend agreed to go back and try several of the amazing dishes they offer here. Tasty, flavorful food every time!

A new must-try find! The only reason I would NOT want to write this review is because I don’t want anyone stealing my spot for lunch buffet at this restaurant! ;) Dosa World is a humble, family-run business, specializing in South Indian, vegetarian food, open for about 4 months. I stopped in to try this newbie, and I have to say they are really dishing up the tastiest, freshest South Indian food in town! I went for their lunch buffet, which is $ 8.75 — who can beat that?! They have their lunch buffet set up on their bar, and it doesn’t look too expansive at first, but do not be fooled… they offer a ton of food to stuff your face and leave happy :) When I went for lunch, they had Dals: sambar, rasam; Rice: basmati rice, veg. biryani, yogurt rice; South Indian Specialties: idli, medhu vada; Vegetable Subzis/dishes: palak paneer, chana masala, stir-fried cabbage; Accompaniments: fresh roti, mixed salad, raita, chutneys(coconut and green chutneys were delicious and fresh), pickles; Dessert: gajar ka halwa. If that isn’t enough, they also include made-to-order dosa and uttapam in their lunch special. This food is where it’s at! The idlis come to your table fluffy and steaming. The rasam is full of spice, well-balanced and piping hot. The vegetable dishes are a lighter version of their richer, north indian style counterparts, and they taste just like mom’s cooking, yum! The veg. biryani was super yummy, and goes perfectly with their very creamy, fresh raita. Their medu vada is the best in the area, perfectly spiced, perfectly sized, not oily. In fact, that goes for all of their cooking… no bland or oil-drenched food here — just yummy, extremely fresh goodness. Their potato-onion masala for their dosa is a little on the mild side, so don’t be afraid to spice it up with a mysore masala dosa if spice is what you’re into. Finished off our meal with some delicious gajar ka halwa done just right, and frothy madras coffee. I can’t comment on dinner food/service, but this lunch buffet is not to be missed! I hope they vary their lunch buffet dishes, because I can’t wait to go again! Dosa World’s competitors may offer an additional appetizer(ie. mixed pakodas) or dessert in their lunch buffet, but there is plenty of food here to enjoy, and no one can beat the freshness of their dishes. The staff here was very friendly, they consistently refreshed the buffet area and tables with hot food, and the location is clean and convenient. If you’re in the neighborhood, do not miss this feast… just be sure to save me a table!

Fairly new south indian restaurant specializing in dosas, after reading plenty of reviews decided to give this place a try and was pleasantly surprised. Better than house of dosas and chennai dosas, had the paneer dosa, and masala dosa, also masala tea and the halwa ala mode dessert. Everything was fresh and delicious, workers were helpful and friendly and restaurant had nice décor and was clean

«Swing that Dosa take it for a ride, form a Dosa parallelogram with equal sides!» Sorry, practicing ordering Dosa’s while calling a square dance! Dosa World is absolutely delicious, if you crave comforting North/South indian comfort food, then you have come to the right place! One of the owners said they have been opened for about 4 months and are still learning and growing the business. As I perused the impressive menu choices my eyes wander away as they caught a glimpse of Dosa’s coming out of the kitchen, the first words out of my mouth were«Man! they are HUGE!!» I liked what I saw and couldn’t wait to place my order. We started with the Mango Lassi, a traditional mango infused yogurt drink that was pretty typical in taste compared to other Indian restaurants. I came with a group of six and we started to get down to business. We ordred the following: Dosa — 3 types — Gunpowder Masala chili, chocolate and Special hand wrapped. Let me tell you something folks, the gunpowder chilli is no joke, you could have lit a fuse in me and I would have went up in flames! Spicy goodness too delicious to set down. The Dosa’s were not overcooked and the dipping sauces that complemented the meal were savory and delish made with tomato and ginger, coconut chutney and sambalar. Appetizers — * Paneer Pakora — deep fried chick peas mixed with spices was a delicious bite. * idli — Steam rice and lentil flour cakes were pillowy soft and once dipped into the chutney sauce was OMG melt in your mouth delicious. * Gobi Manchurian — A deep fried cauliflower in batter and glazed over with a Chinese type sauce that tasted very similar to General Tso Chicken that you would get in a Chinese restaurant. Curries– * Palak Paneer — Velvety smooth spinach and homemade cottage cheese, the cheese was perfect in texture and provided the perfect bite. The owner told me the cottage cheese is all homemade. We washed everything down with a nice hot cup of Masala tea, which was a perfect way to end our day of gluttoney. A weekday buffet lunch special for an AYCE for $ 8.75 is a great deal and I’m planning on stopping by in the future to give the buffet a spin. Dosa world Rocked my world today!

This rather new entry into the Hicksville Dosa scene, having been the only one we hadnt tried we went on Friday night. The place is sparsley decorated and does not absorb sound so the din was high! The service we experienced was practically non existent… Our waiter ignored us and there was a women running around to the tables that would not make eye contact with me so I could ask for water et. al. We never have this type of experience no matter where we are eating so this kind of turned us off on the place. BG asked for a salad on the menu and I re asked at least 4 times and ultimately after we finished out dosas I asked the waiter again and he said 5 minutes… this was after the meal was finished! In this particular case, the food is secondary and we will never darken their entryway again… we will go to Chennai Dosas or even the Halal Cart across the street… Where we experienced smiles and good service. Sorry Dosa World!

My parents are quite critical of South Indian food, especially my mother who is an extraordinary South Indian chef herself, and they thoroughly enjoyed their dinner at Dosa World. We ordered gobi manchurian, bhel puri and rava onion masala dosas. Each dish had an authentic flavor and was served promptly. The ambience was warm as were the waiters and staff, and the prices were extraordinarily reasonable for such great food. We’ll definitely return soon!

We went there last weekend. The place was clean. The bathrooms were clean. The staff was friendly. However there was such a strong smell inside that the stay was not pleasant. They should invest in exhaust fans in the kitchen. Had masala dosas and ghee dosa. It came out fast. The taste was different but my stomach started rumbling within ten minutes of eating it. Also ordered coffee south indian stytle which I didnt care for. The ras malai was okay but not the best. Overall I am not planning on going back there again.

To be honest I was skeptical about coming here when they first opened because there are a few Dosa restaurants in the neighborhood that are good. After my first visit I couldn’t believe I could actually taste the difference because the ingredients are so fresh. I highly recommend you check them out and see for yourself.

I have eaten at almost all the indian restaurants in the area and I have to say that Dosa World has by far the best vegetarian Indian food !!! What makes this restaurant a find is that they have an inovative chef who creates dosa stuffing that are different then any of the other dosa restaurants which serve only potato stuffing. At Dosa world we had a fabulous califlowr stuffed dosa. You have to try the black chickpea curry, the sag paneer and yellow dahl all of which are incredibly well prepared. We finished this feast with an almond halva topped with kulfi ice cream and rasmalai. Add to the amazinh food Friendly service and you have a wonderful experience.
