What an awesome park! I’m from NY-dutchess county to be exact and I’m used to being surrounded by mountains at all times and watching the leaves change during this time is one of my favorite things about my hometown. So needless to say, as much as I love Charlotte, this time of year around here is not really comparable to home. But coming to Rockyface mountain was just what I needed to have that little taste of home! Pulling up to the park was so nice! You just see a wall of rocks and some rock climbers which was neat! We went up to the trail map to check out which one we wanted to do. They had about four different trails to choose from, different difficulty levels for everyone. There was a really nice man in the office that helped us out and gave us a map to bring with is while hiking which is a huge plus because I’m always afraid of getting lost! We ended up doing a big loop that included 3 different trails and was about 4 miles. A nice hike! Took about an hour and a half and not too hard either! The views were great, really pretty and filled with fall colors! I felt like I was back at home hiking Mt. Beacon or Breakneck Mountain(if you ever go to the area, these are musts for hiking fanatics!). Overall an awesome experience and I can’t wait to go back!

Rocky Face Mountain Area seemed so out of place as we pulled up to it. Located at a former quarry, this rec area has hiking trails and climbing routes. The climbing routes were just put up in December 2013(and they’re still putting them up). They ranged from short 5.4’s to 5.10’s. The climbing was literally 15 feet from the parking lot. There is a small picnic pavilion with restrooms that is reservable. Definitely an interesting place to visit.
