I take my husky running here all the time. Beautiful trail for bike riding, running, and walking. In the fall all the leaves change and it’s breathtaking. In the winter the trail is always covered in snow so bring out the yak-tracks and boots. It’s right next to the gorge so beautiful views of the water as well!

This is by far the most scenic bike ride in all of Hunterdon County. The trail is very well maintained, and is always shaded, so it is not a dread in the summer. Whenever a tree branch falls down, it is gone by the next day. I can not imagine Hunterdon County without this trail. Defiantly worth 5 stars!!!

The Columbia Trail is AMAZING! It’s shaded, which is a plus in the summertime heat. The first time trying to locate the entrance in High Bridge was interesting. It was staring me in the face. I needed someone to point it out. It’s not obvious if you’ve never been there before. There’s a parking lot at the entrance. You have to cross the street from the parking lot to enter the trail. During the peak of summer, you’ll see so many runners and bikers. You’ll know when you get there. If you’re looking for a place to get out, highly recommend!!!

Excellent weekend getaway for folks living in suburban NJ. There are quite a few activities that you can do here including fishing, biking, hiking, walking and camping. The hiking trail will lead you along the Raritan river, and the place has a very calming effect away from the hustle and bustle of life. You can also find plenty of country roads and quaint villages to drive along.

It starts across from a very innocuous looking parking lot in High Bridge, but the Columbia Rail Trail becomes scenic almost immediately, and continues that way for miles, until you end up facing a Clydesdale Horse farm(If you’ve never seen a baby Clydesdale, you’re missing something cool). What I find quite unique about this trail is that while it crosses through some very hilly terrain, with great stream & river views, the trail itself is quite flat, unless you choose to take a side trip. This is a great trail for a family bike ride, a jog, etc. On your way back, you cna loop through Lockwood Gorge, watch the fly fishermen, and take the really cool bike trail along the river, back uphill to rejoin the Columbia RT. High Bridge is just a few miles off Rt 78W, and 31N in western central NJ. Load up your bike and try it. There are a few small parks along the way, and some small markets, in case you need water or some facilities.
