This place was amazing. Small roped-in swimming area, clean water, picnic tables, a bar that had $ 7 pitchers and pretty good foot, families with well-behaved children, etc. Music playing from the bar. This is the sort of place that would make me move to the area.

Nice little beach. Don’t take a right on rennenberg drive though. Go past it, and when u see a fire hall on the right, take a left and then it’s your first left.

I happened on this beach a couple of weeks ago because I was in the area for my best friend’s bachelorette weekend! And you know what, it was the most random awesome thing that has happened to me this summer. We drove down to this little inlet where very American music(read: Bön Jovi) was playing at a fun level and families were frolicking in the lake with their kids. A giant American flag was flapping high in the sky. The grass was bright green, the water warm and clean, and the lake was surrounded by the vastness of trees. It was so bucolic. We spread our towels down on the grass and hung out snacking and reading. Nobody gave us weird looks for being the most diverse group of girls there. The area for swimming and hanging isn’t very large considering that Highland Lake itself is pretty large. There was a dock in the lake where the kids were clowning around on, as well as motor boats people were using to boat around Highland Lake. It was gorgeous and seemed like the town’s best kept secret summer secret. There was a 5 dollar charge to get access to the water, but there were restrooms and a small restaurant with a patio. No alcohol on the beach but I’m pretty sure they served alcohol inside the restaurant. A great day trip if you’re ever in the area!
