You know, this is not great Mexican food. It is a nice restaurant and location, but if you are looking for a great meal, this is not the place. If you want a nice little location with some outdoor dining, basket of chips and salsa, and some adequate and pricy mexiAmerican cuisine, in Highwood, this is your place. Service is always slow and strained, BTW.

Good quality Mexican favorites. Nice, lively atmosphere and attentive service. We hadn’t looked at the price for the margarita pitchers($ 52) so where shocked when the bill came. Although the margarita’s were good and it was better than purchasing individual drinks.

This review is MONTHS overdue. Came here with my husband(his name is Isaac) and a friend. We used a $ 13 for $ 20 worth of food Groupon and absolutely loved it! The staff was so attentive and sweet, food is great, the the location is nice. I had the carne Asada tacos and was pleased with the amount of flavor in the meat. The prices are high, $ 13-$ 19 a plate, but with the flavor of the food. Can’t really complain! Would go here much more often if it was a little cheaper, but all in all a well worth it experience.

A ok! Kosher style Mexican. I was curious but am pleased with what I found. I wasn’t so sure at first but the menu was similar to other Mexican places but with its own flair. Mole was great and I was pleased with the service. Attire was very casual. Service was excellent and prompt. Nothing spectacular, but overall quite good!

This food is amazing. My husband and I went for lunch. It was pretty busy, but so worth it! I had the veggie burrito with rice and beans. These flavors are to die for!!! I definitely recommend this restaurant for anyone who enjoy true Mexican food! :)

Best pozole and filet mignon fajitas in Chicagoland! Service is always so friendly and fun — we love this place!

So I know I gave this place 1 star because of the bad customer service back in the summer when we were abruptly left in the sun. However we’ve come back here numerous times ever since because their food is consistently delicious and the margaritas are great! The waitresses here are the best too! Love the guacamole, chili rellenos, burritos and of course Isaacs special moms enchiladas.

Best mexican food in the state of Illinois assuming that there is no good mexican food in the southern half of the state. If you are a empanada freakshow like I am, you have struck gold with this place. Brisket empanadas are little pockets of love. Isaac’s mother’s favorite enchiladas are great, as are basic tacos and burritos. You cannot go wrong. Very authentic.

Probably the best Mexican food I’ve had in the area. We were seated right away, the staff was beyond attentive, and super friendly to match. Plus, the food(which is actually authentic Mexican) was muy delicioso. I had the mother of Isaac enchiladas, and I would definitely recommend them to anyone. Give this place a try if you’re in the area!

Everything I tried here on a recent stay was fantastic. I was there for six days and went twice — it’s like that. The posolé is maybe the best I’ve had, and the presentation is fantastic. Just get it! Duck taco special Al Pastor style? Yes please. On my second trip I sat at the small bar, right by the modest kitchen. Came in kinda late and the place was probably three-quarters full on a Monday night. Looked up after ordering my cup of posolé(thanks to mom for that reco!) and there’s a guy in a suit making something on the grill, turned out to be Isaac! He had a craving, made it himself, and sat by me at the bar. As I was finishing my meal I told him and/or my server that I was eyeing their tequila shelf for«dessert», and then the bonus fun started. Isaac started pulling down bottles I’d never seen and telling me about them, this one you can’t get stateside, that one’s $ 75 per shot… I told him my price range($ 10−20/shot), he pulled down two more, I chose one. He had my server give me half-pours of both instead, they were so good I took a photo of the bottles for later hunting. I realized at some point that a couple staff were now hanging with us at the end of the bar. I turned around and the place was empty! The staff were getting their post-shift drink, and –gasp– another tequila appeared before me. I had to insist on a tiny pour because I still had to drive a short distance, but talk about hospitality! I could tell from the way the staff joked with/about each other that they have a great crew and good times. Yes, the place is a bit small, and the interior may not be suited to a luxury hotel(it used to be a service station!), but the food is on point and so are the owner and his team. I’ll be there again for sure next time I’m in town, and hopefully try the other location too. Thanks for a great time Isaac and crew!

Fantastic authentic food, great ambiance, large portions & excellent service. Isaac’s Mother’s-Favorite Enchiladas are a flavorful standby. The fish tacos are the most authentic I’ve had in the entire Chicago area. And their mole sauce is incredible: more spice than chocolate, which I love! They are closed on the Sabbath, which you have to respect. The one negative is that they are a bit pricey(but the large portions make up for it). But the place is packed most night, so people clearly think it’s worth the price.

Bought a groupon to come here and the groupon of basically a $ 20 credit was worth one entrée. The food is great and full of flavor, but boy is it expensive! The taco plate is $ 13 and just about everything else is closer to $ 20! But again, the food and service was great, so I can’t complain too much! Really loved the carne asada!

Was happy to see that they offer healthy ingredients in their dishes — and the result is how you’d hope it would taste! Very good! Not close to this restaurant, but will go back. We took the food to go, so cannot comment on the dining experience.

Really, really delicious food. Second favorite place in HP for Mexican place, one star less for prices. But every time I come here, I have to get those Isaacs mother’s salmon enhiladas. Oh. My. Goodness. If you love salmon, you’ll understand. Where else have I seen salmon enchiladas? Nowhere. They have great taquitos too and they plate everything nicely. Last time coming here the guacamole was waaaay too salted up. This server that we always get, he’s a very chill guy, he fixed it right away. Always a good experience here though.

I have a deep love for mexican food and this place is known to be one of the bests in North shore. However, my last experience was somewhat of a disappointment. We came on a Monday and were seated very fast. The service wasn’t bad but kind of slow for the restaurant being pretty empty… I love their complementary chips and salsa but always request the guac. Their guacamole is absolutely delicious. For our entrees, we ordered the duck tacos(special of the night) and steak fajitas. The tacos were hit or miss. Personally, I enjoyed them, but my bf said the pineapple was too overwhelming. The steak fajitas were average. The main reason this place receives 3 stars is because the prices are way too high. I can get even better mexican food for a fraction of the cost somewhere else. I may return in the future(with the expectation of a high bill)

My mother strongly suggested I visit this restaurant, and she made me take a coupon when I went, so my friend and I decided to just roll with it. It’s small and cozy and pleasant, with brightly colored oilcloth on the tables. Warm but very salty chips and fairly spice salsa came out fast. Water glasses were kept full. We started with some guacamole which was creamy and well-flavored. My friend wasn’t very hungry so she just ordered rice and beans, which did not look very appealing. She said they weren’t very good, but I chose the duck taco special. I liked the taste of the blue corn tortilla although the texture was a bit mealy. The duck was good and paired especially well with the mango salsa, and there was quite a bit of meat on the plate. There was also a decent sized bone in one bite, which was sort of a surprise. My friend also ordered a strawberry margarita, which she enjoyed immensely. She only ate half her meal, but we stayed until she finished her drink. Of course, when I gave the waiter the coupon, he said it was for a different and related restaurant with a similar name in Highland Park, even though we had found the place by typing the address on the coupon page into Google. That address was actually for a 3rd related place with a similar name down the street. This is my mom’s fault, obviously. But I asked if they couldn’t just honor the coupon just to be nice, and they did. So, all in all, it was kind of a mixed experience. If they hadn’t taken the coupon I probably would have gone with a 2, but at least they tried, you know?

Mexican food!!! I stopped in La Casa de Issac while in Highland park and was not disappointed. Location and Ambiance: Its located in downtown Highland Park. With this in mind, the ambiance is set really well! There is a definite Mexican vibe to the restaurant. Food: We ordered two dishes: A taco shell salad, and three blue tortilla tacos. Both were great, and we were not disappointed. Staff: The staff was nice, and helped us select food but nothing was special about the staff. Overall, its solid Mexican food but its nothing revolutionary. Thanks, Connor Brady

So the restaurant does take reservations although they don’t seem to actually pay attention or respect them. The first time I came here I had a reservation which was confirmed via text the day of although when I arrived it was closed. The next time I came in with a reservation they said we don’t have have a table for you but we can put one outside. Since I didnt want to wait 30 minutes for my reservation I didnt have much choice. Not sure what their idea of a reservation is but is clearly different than mine. That aside the staff here is very nice and try to keep you happy. The atmosphere is sort of purposeful grunge and laid back. The menu items are a bit hit or miss and nothing really wowed me. I so wanted to try their selection of desserts that looked oh so good but are oh so bad for you… you know fried ice cream, churros etc. I contained myself and held off but I wouldn’t mind going back for a beer a dessert some day. I will give it another try sometime… maybe I’ll check out the second location. Keep an eye out for groupons and Unilocal checkin offers or coupons.
