Well, the food is good, not great, if you don’t mind waiting forever to get it. I stopped and ordered three pork tacos, a large guacamole and chips, and a large horchata to go, at 1:10 on a Friday afternoon. Two young men had placed to go orders in front of me, and the dining room was full. I get my order at 1:32, 22 minutes later. If I was ordering for more than one person, would it have taken another 22 minutes? It is good food, not great, and that’s the thing that bugs me. If you have the patience of Job, enjoy. Otherwise, find another place — steer clear of Memo’s, waaay clear.

Overpriced and additude is what you’ll get there. The food is not bad all, but these restaurants are a dime a dozen, just go a few miles in any direction and you’ll find one. They were great at first but now that they have made a name for themself they’ve changed. Good luck

This place is really good. Service is great. Staff is very friendly. The food is the best part about this establishment. Restaurants Serving breakfast lunch and dinner are very hard to come by these days, but they do a great job with it. Crispy chicken tacos=hangover cure. Guacamole is very good. I like to add some hot salsa to it to spice it up. Only downside. Atmosphere is brutal. Very dated facility, where no alcohol is served.

This is just not impressive food. I am a taco fiend. Having lived from west coast to now Midwest, I’m surprised by the inauthenticity of simple things like the chips. Bland. Stale. Like they had been sitting for hours. I love hot and spicy food and the sauces I received were so hot(salsa verde), I couldn’t feel my throat. My chile rellenos was fine – my brothers was so hot he asked me if we could pack up our meals and leave. He can tolerate any spice or heat. Again – some disclosure would have been nice. The staff is not very friendly. On top of that, the food takes a long time to come out when there are only 6 seated tables in the entire restaurant and half are already eating. I’ve had authentic Tex Mex. This is not it. How does this place have 4.5 stars? Do people not care about what they’re eating?

Best Mexican restaurant in the region! The food was excellent and well presented. It had the quality of a high end restaurant and the service did too. The server was by far the best server I’ve ever had.

Tried this restaurant for the first time after a friend suggested it. I had steak tacos and they were seasoned to perfection. My son had steak enchiladas and he was very happy. My other son had the chicken burrito. He suggested we order without the jalapeño next time. The rice, beans and guac were all great as well. My wife typically doesn’t care for refried beans. But she enjoyed these. Memos will become part of our Mexican night routine.

We heard great reviews about Memos and looking forward to going there. We were disappointed. The Memos burrito the chicken and the guacamole were all bland.

My 10 year old loved the quesadillas. My husband and I had the steak tacos with beans and rice. It was very good. The tacos had alot of meat and it was not fatty. This place is very busy!!! Many people were coming in and picking up orders. Really great Mexican food.

Memo’s was written up as one of the top ten restaurants out of the way so we decided to try it out. We walk in on a Wednesday night and it was packed. Good sign you say? Not really. It means there are quite of few people who do not know good food. Our server treated us like we were bothering him. Guacamole was bland. Burritos and tacos were equally forgetful. Better places out there for Mexican.

First time and the last time I visit this restaurant. The first thing is the service is terrible. It took them almost a half hour to seat only me. Even though the place was packed but the management of turning over tables was like amateurs taking orders no organization. I finally got sat down and ordered from this frazzled but enthusiastic waitress. She handed me the chips and salsa. The chips taste like they were pre made boring white corn chips but the salsa was awesome as the mild was mild and when they say hot salsa they ment hot salsa good stuff and my expectation of my order of the hot pork taco dinner was heighten after eating the salsa. I was sitting there for about twenty minutes until I became concern to myself of where is my dinner. Then another twenty minutes passed with the waitress coming to my table and apologizing and saying the food is coming soon. But in all I waited hour and fifteen minutes to get only two hot pork tacos with rice and beans. I can not blame the waitress for that because that is the kitchens fault. It should take about 8 –10 minutes to put that dish out for how busy it was. I mostly think the kitchen is unorganised. Which this could mean the prep was not done or the leadership of the kitchen is terrible. Mostly in all, someone is running the kitchen that should not and new management is needed. So after all the wait I was excited to try the hot pork tacos with rice and beans. I dig in the rice and beans, I always do that with a Mexican restaurant because that tells me how the rest of the food is going to be. The rice was bland and didn’t taste like white rice that was traditionally cooked. Not impressed. Then I tasted the beans and they had no flavor and just as bland but not as bad as the rice. I thought I was eating hospital food. Ok now trying the hot pork tacos. I tell you the pork meat has great flavors of smokiness /grilling with the heat that can point to hot. But the bad thing is that the meat was over cooked and dried out. I did eat one and packed the other one togo. Over all this place has potential but they need to get organised in front of the house of how to flip over tables and back of the house and this means tasting the food making sure the food has flavor, having enough prep ready for production, so just basically having new management to run and organise the line. I was not impressed at all this place was such a let down. I gave them 2 Stars because the salsa was awesome and pork meat had a great flavor but so sad it was over cooked.

Best Mexican place in the region. Truly enjoyed everything about my meal, but wish the guacamole had a little more kick to it(just seemed to be missing something slightly). Nonetheless, I’m still giving it five stars because the service was as wonderful as the outstandingly fresh and delicious food. I recommend this place to everyone. Very unexpected find!

Update. Good food. But I just cannot get past the horribly slow service. Every time I go I end up spending $ 40 or so. No big deal but if they could pick up the pace I may go more than once a month. Last time I went ordered a burrito. That’s it. Maybe three people in whole place and I’m not kidding it took 25 – 30 min. I had to ask, why so long. I believe these cooks cannot multitask and only cool one order at a time.

There is no doubt in my mind, the food is absolutely delicious, the chunky salsa is THEEBESTAROUND, I buy a quart twice a month. But… the«service» is as predictable as the food. If you have three or more people dining in you can expect one or two people to get food first then 5 minutes later the other person then the final person five minutes later. I don’t know if the cooks know how to manage their tickets or what. I would love to explain this to Memo but hey, not my restaurant.

I’ll be frank. If you’re looking for Mexican food in Northwest Indiana, and you don’t come here, you fail at life. I’m in here once a week. I remember once eating at a joint on vacation in the Yucatan, and uttering the words«Ehh…I’ve had better fish tacos at Memos.» Things you need to have when you come here: Carne en su Jugo, Mahi Mahi tacos, Avocado tacos, Chorizo and Potato Enchiladas, Steak and Chorizo Torta, hell, you really can’t go wrong with ANYTHING on the menu. The guacamole is the best I’ve ever had. The staff is fantastic. Great people. The only drawback of the place is that it gets BUSY. Real Busy. Sometimes it can be hard to get a seat, and you feel bad for the servers running around like mad to keep up. It’s busy for a reason. This place is great.

My friends and I came here on the way back to Chicago from Indiana. Waiting area — not too many seats, but you can stand outside on a nice day. It might get congested if you wait inside. Customer Service — excellent! We had a group of 8 people and they went out of their way to make sure that we were all seated together. Attentive and the chef even gave us a free steak appetizer(which was delicious!) Food — anything deep fried tastes delicious! Deep fried beef taco — tasty and the ingredients inside the taco blended in well too! Shrimp soft taco — tasty if you want a «healthier» option Portions — the tacos are not huge so I guess if you are a big eater, you might want 5 tacos? Not sure… either way the tacos I tried were delicious! Costs — very affordable, you can spend less than $ 10 and be full. Tacos average around ~$ 3-$ 5 depending on what kind of taco you get. I would come here again if I was in the area. wish they had a taco place like this in Chicago!

I’ve heard how many great places there are to eat in da region, so I hopped in my car and headed out to try Memo’s. I’ve heard that their deep fried tacos dorados are awesome, but I couldn’t resist the siren song of the Friday-only mahi-mahi tacos. But I’m getting ahead of myself. First up was an appetizer which has been described as Mexican bruschetta. The molletes are slices of bread — perhaps a baguette or a roll of some kind which are topped with refried beans, onion, guacamole. The squeeze bottle salsa verde added some fire to the delicious combination. These make for a pretty filling appetizer — perfect for two or three. The generous portion of mahi-mahi in the tacos was thickly cut and juicy. The accompanying salsa on the side was both delicious and spicy. For $ 3.25 each(as of 07⁄13), these are a good value. I have no doubt they could sell them for twice that price in Wicker Park. Overall, Memo’s left me quite impressed. Definitely check it out if you are in NWI.
