We stopped in on a whim and I’m sure glad we did. We got our goodies to go because we were full from breakfast, but they were great when we had them! We got an apple turnover and cranberry scone. The turnover was light and flaky. The scone was chock full of cranberries and nuts. If we go again, I definitely want to try the dark chocolate flourless brownie! They looked fabulous. My only complaint is that the baked goods were not covered and a fly had gotten into the bakery. I was going to try the gooey butter cookies, but that’s where he was resting when I walked up to the counter.

Was passing through town and boy am I glad I popped in. The gentleman immediately described all the baked goods. I purchased several(blueberry turnover, triple dark chocolate flourless cake/brownie to name a couple) and they all are wonderful and fresh.

Highland now has a weekend bakery that sells all sorts of pastries, but also hosts the Highland Farmers Market in their adjacent parking lot(Saturdays 8 am til 12 pm). While they’re only open on Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays from 8 am to noon(BUMMER!), all of their pastries are baked super fresh so you can smell them cooking from down the street. After breakfast at the 9th Street Café or House of Plenty, you can’t help yourself but get pulled in by the fresh flowers and produce at the market, plus the scents of the bakery. Not to mention, it’s in an adorable old house. If you’re in the area or visiting Highland during the weekend, it’s worth checking out. Just beware of the older lady selling flowers because she can be quite a saleswoman ;).
