Love this place best food in town and you get a lot of food. It’s a great value

I’ve been here a couple of times over the years, most recently last Monday, for breakfast. It was busy, due to MLK holiday I think, lots of families there for a Monday morning. The waitress was very friendly, and professional. I had the Skillet Mendoza, which is shown on the menu as «Strips of marinate sirloin steak with peppers, onions, mushrooms and tomatoes, topped with bleu cheese crumbles, and two eggs any style». The waitress made sure I realized it had bleu cheese in it, which was a good idea for those who may have missed it on the menu. It was a good size skillet. The gorgonzola was a little different for a breakfast skillet, but was ok. Next time I would probably not get that type of cheese, in my opinion it just wasn’t a breakfasty cheese. The eggs, potatoes were good. There wasn’t too much of the peppers, mushrooms, or peppers in it. The steak Strips were just a LITTLE over cooked. My sister had the Large Apple Pancake which is listed on the menu as «Fresh apples sautéed with cinnamon and sugar, baked to perfection with our special pancake batter.» It’s huge. Other tables asked her what it was. It’s like a big apple pie made with pancakes instead of crust. She enjoyed about ¼ of it and took the rest home. Overall, it’s a nice place, big parking lot, clean, friendly, and good food.

Took my two toddlers there to eat. We got there close to closing time. We were not done eating by 4, which is the time they close. Well literally at 4:00 the heat turns off and there is cold air blowing at us. Felt like the a/c was turned on. My kids’ food literally super cold. At 4:06 I started packing up our food because my 4 year old put on his jacket it was so cold. For those 6 mins after 4, workers kept peeping out of the kitchen just standing watching us as we tried to finish our food. At the register I told the host and his response was«oh yea I forgot that at 4 the heat gets turned off». My reply was, «wow the staff works in the cold?» Smh! This is my first experience at this restaurant and my last.

No doubt my favorite place to go for breakfast in Northwest Indiana. Hard to even decide what to order because everything is so good.

The food is pretty good and the prices are on the high side, which would have been fine if the staff was friendlier and the service more timely. We were tucked away in the back next to where they take the dirty dishes, and pretty much forgotten about for the next twenty minutes. The fly-by coffee lady filled our cups, but there was no cream or sugar(which hardly mattered, as there was no silverware to stir with anyhow). My husband’s repeated requests for these were ignored by other wait staff. After the waitress put in an appearance, things went fine. This isn’t my first experience here, but they’ve pretty much all gone about like this.

I live in Chicago, but would happily trek to Sophia’s for their pancakes alone. Some of the best I’ve ever had. The portions at Sophia’s are HUGE. I ordered a combo plate with hashbrowns, sausage, bacon, eggs and two pancakes. I could not finish everything. Seriously, it could have easily fed two adults. Everything was pretty good, but the pancakes were fantastic. Staff were all really friendly. Very happy we found this place, can’t wait to go back soon!

Sophia’s is a staple for me and my husband when we are in NWI visiting family. It’s the standard breakfast spot and greasy food kind of place. Oh man is it delish! Huge portions so be sure to bring an appetite and a take home box after your meal. Prices are very reasonable and even if you find yourself waiting for a table on the weekends, the wait is never very long.

A very solid, almost too solid, restaurant. How can it be too solid you might ask? Well, when I want to eat everything on the menu while trying to lose weight… yea, too solid. Great food, clean, smooth coffee, attentive staff and well priced. The specials are great choices!!! We will definitely go back!

Tried this for the first time for a birthday breakfast. Love the diversity of the breakfast menu and will have to try lunch sometime as well. I ordered cheese blintzes with blueberries on top. They were huge, and oh, so tasty, even if I wasn’t sure what the cheese used to stuff them was made of. Our server was great, accommodated every request. I really like that they place a carafe of ice water on your table as you are seated. Only thing holding me back from 5 stars is the exceptionally noisy bus staff. I don’t want to hear the dishes crashing and clanking into the bucket, thank you. Also, they were attempting to set up for a large group in our vicinity and we felt in the way and quite crowded.

They’re open! I’m not sure how things were before they closed for remodeling but everything was AWESOME! Our waitress was very pleasant and attentive. Their skillets are delicious! We also had french toast, waffles, pancakes and bacon. I’m not sure how they get huge sausage links but they were also good. A great breakfast place. We have no complaints!

Nothing really out of the ordinary. Just your average run of the mill breakfast place with good food and clean environment. Always have enjoyed this place, but the waitress I had last time was terrible. In her defense, they were quite busy, but it was a chore trying to get any sort of water from her. The soup was good and so were the breakfast plates. The BLT was not very good as the bread was burnt, unfortunately. I’ll definitely be going back because this was just a single occasion, and I’ve gone many times over the years. Hopefully, I can get some sevice and non burnt toast and I’ll definitely revise this review. Again, for those reading this, definitely go as it is good, but I had a singular terrible experience and it still got 3 stars out of me.

I understand that diners are busy on weekends. If a server is overwhelmed, a tap on the table & an «I’ll be right with you,» is perfectly acceptable & lets me know that SOMEONE knows we’re here. Nope. We sat for 15 minutes without any kind of greeting. We saw another table greeted within a minute of sitting down after we had been seated for 10. When our order was finally taken, my boyfriend ordered orange juice(at 12:37), he still hasn’t received it(now 1:03). The table greeted before us has their food. We haven’t even gotten our food & we are thoroughly disappointed. Orange juice & straws received at 1:09. Food & silverware received at 1:11. The steak was supposed to be medium well, there was not a single hint of pink, it was WELL done. The portion sizes were generous, I’ll give them that. But only one side of the hash browns were cooked, the rest were soft. Through our entire visit, there was no manager walking around checking on tables. When we went to pay, she did not ask us how our visit was. The man we believe to be the manager was playing on his phone behind the front counter, didn’t even acknowledge his guests.

Awesome food, awesome service, awesome all around. The hubs and I took his folks and our son to breakfast. Everyone had more than enough delicious food. Coffee was hot and our server was on point. I had the Mediterranean frittata and it was super good. They were crowded but our wait was only 10 minutes and I don’t think it even took that long. We have been eating here for years and have never had any complaints. It may be a little pricier than some breakfast establishments, but I bet other places don’t have a standard 5-egg omelet. You get what you pay for here for sure!

HUGE portions… the omelettes are GINOURMOUS…5 eggs I think. The service is first rate and the food comes out piping hot and super fast. Very good value for the price. Solid Breakfast, solid price.

It’s open. You would think with the down time they would have worked on the menu. Burnt hash browns. Mushy oatmeal. Weak coffee. There are better spots. And $ 4.00 for granola? Are you kidding me? It was crushed mini wheats.

I live in Boston now. But like all good Calumet Region natives, I know the true meaning of big ass breakfast. A donut and oversweetened coffee just doesn’t get it. I need food, man. Lots of it. So my sweetie and I were in town for my not-so-little-anymore nephew’s wedding. After a nite of festivities at Meyer’s Castle in Schererville, we painfully arose early so we’d have time to meet my Mom and sister, and the food monster could have one of those Lake Michigan-sized breakfast skillets before driving up to O’Hare. On first glance, I was excited that we could actually park, since the parking lot usually looks like a Sox game during a winning streak(and forget them Red Sox, this hometown kid is talking White, baby!). But my heart quickly sank lower than my overnourished stomach as I drove up and saw an empty lot and a construction dumpster. Another standing tradition lost to the ravages of time? My aging heart couldn’t take this — it was worse than losing Frank Thomas :( Fortunately we quickly found a plan B(Skillets around the corner on 45th — a good substitute in a pinch), and conversation with the waitress and Googling revealed that Sophia’s had closed due to an after-hours fire(no one hurt fortunately), and that a reopening is slated to be soon. Good thing. Because Sophia’s House of Pancakes is the Grand Kingdom of Breakfast. A menu the size of the Sunday paper features pancakes, crepes, omlettes, waffles, French toast, and everything under the sun you could want for a weekend morning pig-out. And of course, those aforementioned skillets the size of glacially carved freshwater basins. Southwestern, Italian, Greek, Cajun, Navajo, you pick a flavor — they’ve got ‘em all. The menu says two eggs, but don’t let that fool you — on the way from the kitchen, they have babies and you get four of ‘em. Plus a stack of pancakes and all the hot, delicious coffee you can drink. This is not portion purgatory, my friends. Needless to say, over the years it’s become a morning-after-Thanksgiving tradition worthy of an 18 minute folk song interlude. And here’s to hoping 2014 won’t be an exception. Because some things should just never change.

Best breakfast place around — hope they re-open by the time I’m in the area again(if ever!). Nice family restaurant. N Great food for a good price. Generous portions. There are healthier options available. Pancakes are the best!!! The service is good — waitresses I’ve had there have been friendly and there to fill your coffee cup as soon as it is half gone! There’s typically a fair wait time to get a table on weekends. Sunday seemed to be very popular. I’d say less than a 30 minute wait on average, depending on the size of your party. The parking lot was always full!

Breaky of champions for me. We arrived before 10am on a Sunday. It was busy but the tables were turning at lightening speed. Mostly because the food came out in record time… I want to say 5 – 7 minutes after ordering we had food. My breakfast featured a FIVE egg Greek omelet(gyro meat, onion, pepper, tomato and huge feta chunks), hashbrowns(possibly five potatoes worth of hash) and a short two stack plate of pancakes. I wasn’t going to be hungry for days after this meal. That’s a lot of egg. Five eggs is the standard for all their omelettes, skillets and frittatas. The Greek omelet was pretty salty with the combination of salty gyro meat and saltier feta bits stuffed inside and sprinkled on top. The pancakes were pretty standard, fluffy and sweet just like pancakes should be. Hashbrowns were nothing special either. Super solid, filling and cheap breakfast. Can I get a doggy bag to go?

I really like this Location a lot more than the Orland Park one. Just seems cozier I think. Here’s the skinny: They say 15 mins… they mean it. Breakfast all day everyday, hot and fresh. Watch out for Sunday Crowds, especially Brunch time. Here’s the fat: They are really accurate on wait times when you get in, we were told 15 min and guess what? Damn near 15 min on the dot! Not a major thing but, timeliness counts in my book. I am a breakfast fanatic, the fact that I can go here at like 3 in the afternoon and get Bananas Foster French Toast or the Apple Pancake… Nom Nom, warm fuzzy feeling. Breakfast here is always hot and fresh too, The fresh fruit toppings they have are totally worth the slightly long wait times that they have on Sundays. Speaking of Sunday wait times… expect to be waiting a while because of the church crows. If you want to be seated sooner, come at like 10:30 before the church rush at 11:00. After that it’s anyone’s guess at how long you’ll be hungry. Like I’d mentioned though, it’s worth the wait. SYOY
