What a great place! I surely do not understand the bad reviews. I went with my wife and 5 year old son. We had never been before this visit, but had heard about it through friends. We got a 16″ meat lovers pizza. Our son was ok with eating that, but really didn’t want that. He wanted just pepperoni. Our pizza came out, and next a surprise. The staff just wanted him to be happy, so they took it upon themselves to make him his own personal pepperoni! This place has top notch food, and service to match. We will definitely be frequent visitors from now on!

ok well i didn’t go here for ambiance… so no big deal there but the pizza itself was extremely and i mean EXTREMELY salty. I THINK it was in the dough itself. We had come down to town to have breakfast or brunch and i guess its as too late at 11am on a Sunday morning so since we were low on time, we just had a coffee and went all day without eating. So as you can imagine we tried to find a casual place with GOODFOOD because we were very hungry and didn’t want to go home to shower and get dressed up. So we found the Pizza Place in The Highlands… hoping for the best… but when the pizza arrived, it was a let down to have one bite and say to myself«that was my weekly allotment of salt». I haven’t had the best experience with food in this town but I haven’t eaten everywhere so we will have to try to keep an open mind. This place however was not good and I would NOT go back there due to the super salty pizza.(ps this is my 2nd1 star rating in two days and i have NEVER given a restaurant one star before yesterday and today).

Came here on a Saturday night to order a pizza and eat it there. It took almost an hour to get the pizza out to us and even then it was underdone on the bottom. I feel like they forgot to put in the order until we starting questioning where our pizza was 30 minutes in. Not satisfied or happy and will never return there. My boyfriend asked for a beer on the house which they did provide. The punk who took my order was surly when I asked did our order get messed up and that we had been waiting a long time. I mean an hour??? I recommend Brick Oven instead…

Strictly a hit or miss place. Sometimes the service is decent, sometimes it’s awful! Sometimes the Pizza is pretty good(never had a great one), sometimes it looks like it was prepared by someone in a bad mood. Staff is usually pretty friendly.

Went here today and last year while on vacation. Very good pizza at a very good price. Service was fast and friendly. It’s an old style pizza place that’s not fancy but good pizza. We had the meat lovers and the pepperoni. Hard to beat for the price.

We were told it would take half an hour to get our take-out pizza. It took more than one hour to get our pizza! It would have been nice to get a small apology but it must be business as usual. I call this a bad customer experience!

My husband and I are here in Highlands for a couple of nights away from the city. I’d done a search for places to eat and found this pizza place. We had dinner reservations, so we planned to eat«just enough» for lunch, ordering a 10 inch meat pizza, at the recommendation of the cashier, and a small Greek salad. The small salad was more than enough to share and the pizza was delicious. We left so satisfied that we ended up canceling our dinner reservations. Oops! It would qualify as a «hole in the wall» by Highlands’s standards, but that doesn’t mean the quality is poor. The Greek salad is made of mixed greens, kalamata olives, tomatoes, pepperoncini, purple onion, and a generous portion of feta cheese. The dressing could be homemade. If not, it was perfect! The pizza crust is thin, but not chewy or tough and the toppings were generous. If you’re looking for at least one meal in Highlands that doesn’t break the bank, I’d recommend going here.

My girlfriend and I came here before a play in Highlands one evening. I love the speedy operation of this establishment, even when having to bear with all of the tourists! We both ordered specialty pizzas, and got some incredible craft beers that they have on tap. The pizzas did take about 30 minutes to come out, but it’s one of those cases where it’s well worth the wait. I’ve also ordered a calzone 30 minutes before they opened on Black Friday, and they let me skip the line that conjugated at the door to pick up my food. Good people, good pizza, good beer. Did I mention that I’m a picky NY pizza eater?

Nice hole in the wall spot amongst a lot of ritzy places. Calzones were great, would recommend.

One of the better gluten free crusts I have had. 5 stars just for that as it is hard tobfind

This place is horrible. Pizza is greasy and plastic tasting, the calzones are lacking ricotta cheese which is supposed to be a main ingredient. I can not believe the high reviews! Cute place, but they need to get some lessons on how to cook pizza and other Italian items properly.

Nice pizza place. Clean, yummy, and classic. It was busy on the Sunday night we went there, so call ahead on the weekends for your order. I had the Hawaiian pizza and the chicken and BBQ sauce components were just okay. I did LOVE the cheese though, so next time I’d just go simple.

Not sure why there are bad reviews on here for this place but my wife and I had a great Greek salad and a great pizza. Sauce was very flavorful. They said that they had fresh jalapenos and used canned but that’s my only complaint. Kind of a strange location right next to an alley but I believe their cleanliness rating was like a 99. Will definitely go back.

Beware new owners. We have been going to this restaurant for 20 years. Always been outstanding pizza but the new place is not nearly as good as it used to be.

LOVETHISPLACE. My Dad and I would always go to the Pizza Place after hiking Whiteside – we’ve been coming up to the area my entire life. Last year, however, I developed a gluten allergy. Waaah me. So when I brought my boyfriend to the area for the first time, after hiking Whiteside, we walked up to the Pizza Pace and I sighed and said, «Well that’s the place we’d go get pizza. No way they have gluten free crust. Wanna walk around?» He insisted we go in and ask. We did. The sweet guy at the counter replied, «Sure do.» I didn’t see it on the menu. I saw«wheat crust» on the menu. I said, «not wheat crust… gluuuuten free crust.» «Yep,» he replied. OMG. Surprised I didn’t order two(for myself). The pie was just as awesome as I remember, and I couldn’t have been more thrilled to keep the tradition alive.

You dont go to this place for the ambiance, you go for the awesome pizza! This place has been around forever, my dad actually worked here as a kid. The pizza is NY style, and always good. The garlic bread is also really good. A perfect low key spot for a very casual dinner, or to pick up a great pizza to bring home.

Killer muffuletta(in North Carolina you ask?) Yep! Good pizza too! Small place, order at counter, seat yourself and they’ll call out your number as they bring your order out. One of my favorite places for simple, quick and inexpensive food in Highlands. I go just for the muffaletta. Very! busy on Holiday weekends! Scott must have been there on an off day for his review; their pizza is usually very good!

If this is considered«the best pizza in the mountains», then God help the mountain folk. Unilocal truly let us down on this dining experience. How this place scores higher than a single star makes me think the owners of this joint are writing their own reviews. I’ve been eating plenty of pizza for 30+ years and have had two, count ‘em two, bad pizza experiences in my life. Last night at Pizza Place was one of the two. The pizza here is really, really bland. Even the crushed red peppers were bland. The pizza sauce has no taste — no zesty bite to it at all. A frozen Tombstone pizza from your grocery store would be 5 times better than pizza from Pizza Place of Highlands.

What is it about this place of pizza? We are not talking about the atmosphere here, that’s for sure. The place is about 10 feet wide, decorated like they didn’t care, and is junked up with gum machines, free real estate guides and other paraphernalia. Why are you here anyway? For the pizza!!! And it’s really good. I don’t know why it’s so good, what they do to it to make it so good, but dang, it’s good. I prefer the whole wheat crust, with an array of meats, vegetables, and mushrooms. Great sweet tea is also a bonus — believe me, you can’t get really good sweet tea everywhere. Pizza Place is also very inexpensive. Pizza in the mountains can be hit or miss due to staffing being inconsistent from season to season. Pizza Place seems to have consistent staffing, and the food is the same goodness everytime.
