Great choice for lunch. Authentic food, authentic chef/owner. Great place for food that is cooked from the heart and with passion! Simple and good. I had the jerk chicken, rice and beans and cabbage. It was not only very inexpensive but filling. Chef came out and asked if I liked fish. I said sure, the then poured a very tasty soup he was offering for me to try. So even though I didn’t get the soup, too much food, it was very very good. If you are in the area, come here for lunch, you won’t be sorry. I know I will be back.

Holy smokes the food is good… I had both the jerk chicken and the oxtail dinners and both were flavorful. I’ll be going back for sure.

Everything I’ve had here was great! The mac n cheese, beef patties, soup and all appetizers are really delicious. I usually get the jerk chicken as a main dish and it’s fantastic! It’s spicy and full of flavor and fresh. For about 9 bucks you get a lot of jerk chicken with rice, cabbage, and cornbread. It all compliments each other perfectly and is one of the best meals in the area in terms of quality and price. The other dishes I’ve tried are great as well and the staff is very friendly. Go there!

Amazing food prepared by Morgan himself!!! I had the curry chicken, bbq jerk chicken, and jerk turkey wings. While all were delicious, the curry chicken was the star of the show for me. I’m no curry aficionado but the best I’ve had by far! It had a subtle sweetness with classic island curry flavors with a touch of heat. Another owner-operated business you should check out instead of a chain!!!

I went to Morgan’s island grill for the first time about 8 months ago. Since then, I’ve been keen to write a five star review, but honestly felt that I couldn’t write one that lived up to the quality of the food and service at Morgan’s. When you go in, Morgan greets you so warmly, it feels more like you’re visiting an uncle you haven’t seen in ages than a customer at a restaurant. That warmth and relaxed feeling persists as your order is taken, and does so in a way that is honest… not simply a sales pitch. The food is astoundingly good. I don’t think you can go wrong, but I would highly recommend the beef patties as an appetizer. They’re made in advance, so they are occasionally out… meaning going early is a good bet. I’ve seen people wait an hour and come back for a fresh batch. They’re that good. The entrees are very filling, and even the regular sized portion is more than enough for most people. The Jerk chicken is a personal favorite, but the Ox tail, and curry goat are a close second and third place. What makes the food genuinely astounding is that, despite the exotic and unfamiliar flavors, it still feels like you’re eating comfort food from your childhood. That’s what make Morgan’s special. It all just feels so familiar, even your first time. You’re instantly a regular customer, and the food feels like you’ve been eating it for years. If you live anywhere within a few hundred miles… make the drive. You won’t be disappointed.

Excellent food. You’re immediately greeted by a gentleman who, throughout your stay is kind and helpful and patient. The food is very well done. You can taste how fresh everything is. I thought through the meal how lucky the cooks family is to have him around during the holidays. Lol. Then he came around to greet us as he was the owner. Nice touch. He stressed how important it is to stay true to good food. And he has.

Incredible. Nice mom and pop feel and if u are dying for something aside from typical central jersey Italian food don’t look much further. Best kept secret. Will definitely visit again. Lacking pretentiousness and just awesome food.

This Jamaican spot has been on my list for several months now. I was about 8 miles away so I decided to swing by and grab a takeout. Once inside I was bombarded by a beautiful jerk(?) aroma. I knew this was going to be righteous. I had an idea of what I wanted, so I grabbed a to go menu, saw my choice and went to the register. Based on other Unilocalers, I selected the lunch portion of bbq jerk chicken. I grabbed a window seat and within 2 minutes the gentleman at the counter was dropping off my order. Back in the car I was drooling as I drove home. I pretty much just ran inside when I reached my house. It was as good as others have stated. Moist and flavorful fowl and a unique bbq sauce, very good rice and cabbage. And excellent corn bread. I will probably chose a different entrée on my next visit, mainly to sample something different. My one slight critique is that the chicken was chopped up into many pieces. Bones were still on it and it was kind of messy to eat since the small pieces of bone needed to be discarded. This small restaurant is very clean inside, and with about 10 tables give or take. I think I will eat in on my next visit and hopefully with company so a few items can be shared. Now that I’ve had a taste of this, I may develop a craving from time to time. 4.25 jerktastic Unilocal

All I can say is THATCORNBREAD. I would give my right arm for his corn bread. My first time here I had the oxtail and it fell straight off the bone. I came back the next day for his jerk chicken. His is the only jerk chicken I have ever enjoyed. I am from north jersey and found out he also has ties with Jeans Jamaican American food. I will be visiting. Thank you Morgan for this wonderful food.

Still serving up some awesome food! No appetizer for this lunch as I initially was going to order the fritter, but apparently the fritter appetizer is no longer being offered. The waitress mentioned it’s no longer available and going to be removed from the menu. Nonetheless, this would only leave more room for the entrée. I had the Curry Goat and it was really mouthwatering as the curry was spicy with a mild heat at the end. I couldn’t stop sucking on the goat bones to make sure I cleaned off all that delicious curry sauce. The large entrée plate held a very generous amount of curry infused goat meat and the always addicting rice & peas. Sister enjoyed the large BBQ jerk chicken entrée and again another finger-licking good dish. I enjoyed the normal Jerk Chicken entrée previously, but the addition of BBQ sauce made a great dish even better. Can’t wait for my next visit. Too bad Morgan’s is a healthy 40 minute drive from home though.

Now, let me start out by saying that the food and the atmosphere is really good. The restaurant was very clean and the owner is very approachable. I order the curry shrimp and my mom ordered the oxtail. The food was outstanding and the flavors was remarkable. I would will return in the future because of the great taste. Here is my issue. This restaurant is very well known. People love to patronize this place. However, your gonna have to hire more waiters. One of the cooks who had dark hair. He was very aggy and snapped on my mom while she was placing her order. I guess she didn’t say what she wanted fast enough for him. I personally kept my composure because I didn’t want to run the risk of getting locked up in Hightstown. Especially on a Saturday cause I’m not going to see a judge until Monday and I don’t have time for that. It took at least 30 mins for the food to be served to us but I understand because it was so fresh and very tasty. All I’m saying is be a little more respectful to your patrons. We are the ones spending the money. «One Love”‼

Morgan’s Island Grill is some legit Caribbean food! My co-worker and I came in pretty late, but they still offered to give us food even though it looked like they were cleaning their grills. We ordered the«small» jerk chicken, which turned out to be a lot of food. It includes several portions of jerk chicken, rice, cornbread, and sliced plantains. They mentioned that the jerk chicken was very spicy, but I didn’t find it too spicy at all. It was very tasty. The restaurant is at the corner of Main and Mercer. There were many available street parking spots. The restaurant has a patio as well as many tables indoors. The lighting was bright indoors and the service was prompt.

OK. I have eaten MANY an authentic Jamaican meal, so I was really excited to try this place out. I really like the ambiance of the inside and the sitting area outside is a nice touch. Very friendly greetings when we entered which was inviting. For those areas, I give them a 4.5. For the food, here is my breakdown: Ackee and saltfish: UNBELIEVABLE! If they weren’t out of festival, my meal would have been complete. Oxtails: I have to say that I won’t be getting these again. The meat was way too tough. Not enough sauce. Rice and peas: I’m sorry, it was really bland and doesn’t stand a chance on its own. Plaintains: Good Cabbage: Had a curry seasoning which was a nice touch, but it was just dry. Cornbread: I could have done without, but my 2 year old loved it. Macaroni & Cheese: Wouldn’t order again – no flavor at all. I REALLY wanted to leave a better review, but I’ve just had much better Jamaican cuisine. Will return to try other items and get some more ackee!

Not at all willing to brave another epic wait on a Saturday for dinner service I instead ordered takeout. The oxtail was again flavorful and authentically Jamaican if quite a bit smaller than my past sit down order and no fried plantains was found in both of my orders. Fried fish was small, fat and fresh but the sauce held little flavor so some homemade pepper sauce was indeed warranted to spice it up a bit. Sides, while welcomed held little spark… cabbage was a bit too sweet and I still don’t get the cornbread. Jerk wings and patties were the highlight of the evening… simple but so good exactly in their simplicity. I featured Jamaican food for some well traveled friends who have little experience with West Indian cuisine and with no Trinidadian restaurant convenient Morgan’s offerings had to represent that part of the world… and did very well. I truly like Morgan’s as his food shows a deft hand and has great flavor but I still hesitate to give additional stars as this now very popular and successful restaurant still has to address it’s biggest flaw… the still nagging lack of timely and professional service both in the kitchen and dining room. I love his food but I’ll be damned having to wait an hour for the very same dishes that is served to me in 20 minutes or less in Brooklyn or Queens.

Everything we had was great. My soup had a small bone it but over wise was fantastic. Chef owner Morgan greeted us, told us what was most popular and offered that we could mix and match at will. Don’t worry about the menu. Once served he came out again to make sure everything was good. Highly recommend.
