Starting to feel discomfort after three years with a sedentary, desk job, I decided that if I was going to feel discomfort, it made more sense for it to be a product of physical conditioning — improving myself — rather than the product of staring at a computer screen. Finding APE Shape Fitness, I appreciated that images of the gym did not show a workspace lined from wall-to-wall with cardio equipment and strength machines, but designed for personal improvement and achievement of goals led by the knowledge, skill, and competency of a well-qualified trainer/coach — an understatement of who Jose is. Quality personal training is not typically considered low cost, but my time with Jose has been an incredible value. As other reviews mentioned, Jose takes the time to do a fairly thorough health and nutrition assessment. Presenting Jose with an atypical health and nutrition profile, he assembled initial nutrition and training plans specific to my history, my strengths, my deficiencies, and my needs. Since that initial assessment, he has continued to alter, adapt, and evolve these plans as necessary to ensure continual, forward progress. For example, soon after I started training, working on basic conditioning, I started experiencing some additional discomfort issues due to my long-term, sedentary lifestyle for which I needed medical care to correct. Jose took that information and adopted the training to mitigate the discomfort and help me correct and push past the issue. Jose and his assistant, Sean, are both very observant during training sessions, providing quick, beneficial feedback during movements, scaling weights during a movement based on capability and fatigue, and using what they observe to plan out future sessions. As he mentions, Jose is going to plan each training session to push the client toward his or her goal, and he succeeds in a way that allows the client to realize progress even if he or she does not feel like they had their best performing day. The real value, however, training with Jose is his willingness and interest in interaction outside of scheduled session times. He is interested to know about successes and struggles with physical conditioning and nutrition choices, encouraging clients to always improve. He shares new health and nutrition research and topics in which I might find interest. He is willing to answer questions about an exercise movement or circuits, home gym equipment, food and nutrition, metabolic processes — you name it. There is nothing else for which I pay money that I can say is a better value than training at APE Shape Fitness under Jose. The quality of training, the quality of results, and the personal attention and relationship with his clients is absolutely unbeatable. Thank you, Jose!

Checked body fat, training assessment & assisted stretching after I met coach @ 24 hr fitness pretty amazing guy well disciplined he’s kicking me back into to shape for the wedding in 6 months with repetitive core moves. I feel good I’m on a strict semi vegan & protein diet and drinking alkaline water helps with my pH 9.5+ made a difference that very day less bloating more energy less sleep & I feel more dense like Gun metal.

When I started looking for a trainer, I knew that I had to hire someone with a strong personality that wouldn’t except any excuses from me. I absolutely loathed excercise or sweating in general!!! Based on previous history, I would provide excuses and reasons for not working out. I knew that for me, I had to have a trainer that would make me accountable. Jose listened to me that first day when I explained what«I» wanted. He then told me what I «needed». He asked me to trust him. After hearing his own weight loss and fitness story, I did just that. He designed a goal/overall fitness plan for me. I wasn’t sure it would work but I was certain he wouldn’t give up until it did. He and I were an absolute team in this process. Trust me, i didn’t make it easy. I challenged and questioned him nearly every time we met. We truly had a love/hate relationship during many of our sessions! :) Jose developed an eating plan for me that worked. I started in October right before the two biggest holidays of the year. I was able to enjoy the holiday season and managed to stay on program during November and December. I thought that I knew everything about nutrition and weight loss. Indeed, I did not. I learned so much from Jose and saw the results I needed and reached my goals by March. I continued working with Jose for the entire year. The first day I started working out with him I couldn’t hold a plank for 20 seconds. A year later in October, I was able to hold a plank for over 5 minutes. I was constantly amazed at how much stronger I had become. I would have given up the first day, and Jose wouldn’t let me. He provided the encouragement and support I needed but wouldn’t let me off the hook either. He always pushed me further and never gave up. If I ever had questions about what I could or couldn’t eat, or my fitness plan, he would get back to me immediately. I highly recommend him if you want to see consistent and realistic fitness goals. He has the education and background to back it up and stays on top of all new health and fitness information. In addition to all that he offers, his unique Jose-isms and humor is a bonus.

I was already an active athlete when I started working with Jose, however, Jose has helped improve my strength and fitness making me a better athlete even as I get older. Jose also knows his stuff when it comes to food and nutrition and he can help you reach your personal goals.

Jose helped me prepare for hood to coast a few years ago. I breezed through the relay and now exercise had become a normal routine. I put on twenty pounds of muscle while dropping my body fat and I feel great.
