These guys are super helpful and friendly, I loved meeting them and touring around the tree lot. They were quick to respond to emails as well. In the end we actually opted for bamboo from another place to fill a privacy hole we had but we plan to come back and get a tree from these guys someday as we really liked them.

This place is awesome!!! They really do live up to their name and have a huge variety of Big Trees. When my wife and I purchased our second home we knew we would eventually need to do some landscaping and privacy screening; classy and elegant trees were at the top of our list. The trees Dan(the owner) provided us not only exceeded our expectations with the service he and his crew provided, but we are reminded of what a wonderful purchase we made every time we glance in the backyard and see one of their trees. We purchased two Camellias(camellia japonica ‘Colonel Firey’) a few months ago and had Dan’s crew plant them in our home. I’m just an average vegetable-garden type of guy so having Dan’s crew plant the trees was definitely worth it given the task at hand. The detailed watering and care instructions they left us were easy to follow. You’ll see that I marked the review as $$$. Buying a tree that has been so well taken care of by a local company over many years can’t be cheap, but it’s worth every penny. If you are looking for a cheap tree that couldn’t possibly have received the necessary attention it deserves, then go to a big box home improvement or garden store. For quality trees that are carefully taken care of, as evidenced by their nursery, then definitely check out Big Trees Today. I look forward to next spring when they will flower once again and we can enjoy their sweet fragrance. We will surely keep Dan in mind the next time we need a mature tree. Feel free to message me if you want to talk more.

Not cheap, but you get what you pay for. No surprises. Everything happened as planned. Easy process: called them up, went down on my own and then with my husband to choose two trees(a persian iron wood and a paperbark maple). They did the rest: contacted the city to be sure we weren’t planting over utilities; removed and chipped the existing overgrown, large photinea bushes; transported the trees up to our home in North Portland from their nursery; dug holes; planted the trees and gave us clear, easy to follow instructions on care. The trees were planted in early spring and look great now in early fall. I thought the customer service was great. Nothing I would change. It ain’t cheap, but if I had a lot of patience I could buy much, much smaller versions of these trees at a much lower price and then wait years before they started to look good. Up to you.

We were thoroughly impressed with our experience at Big Trees Today. This past summer we went looking for a mature Japanese Snowbell around 8ft. tall. Everyone we called and spoke to recommended Big Trees Today. We drove out and met with Dan Hickman. He showed us around their«orchard» in a golf cart on a rainy day(with our two kids in tow) and showed us countless possibilities. We ordered a tree, and they came out and installed it a short time thereafter. They were great with follow-through and step-by-step instructions on keeping our tree healthy through the summer. Dan’s customer service was impeccable. Our only hesitation about Big Trees Today are their prices. Having a one of a kind operation, they can warrant the pricey trees. One should expect to pay close to $ 900 for a tree our type/size. I’m waiting for their repeat customer discount!

What a bummer. We bought 6 large trees last fall from Big Trees Today, 5 Redbuds and 1 Ash, which we planted ourselves. Big Trees Today offers no warranty on customer-planted trees, but we were confident that the trees would thrive if we followed their planting and care instructions. This spring the Ash came to life but the Redbuds struggled briefly and then died. Dan came out and examined the trees, said that it looked like we planted them correctly, and speculated that it was possibly the weird spring weather that killed them. We asked if Big Trees Today would make an exception to their policy and stand behind the trees since the die-off of only the Redbuds was strange, particularly considering that our Ash was doing fine, but they repeatedly emphasized that they were not contractually obligated to replace the trees. They did eventually offer to sell us new trees at a discount, but buying more unwarranted trees from them seemed like throwing good money after bad. Although the owners(Terry and his son Dan) were professional, responsive, and their discount offer was a nice gesture, we’ve decided to buy replacement trees from one of the many nurseries that offer a warranty on their products.
