Really friendly neighborhood place, with well flavored food. I had the garlic butter shrimp and salmon with rice and veggies! It was really good!

The Palace Chicken was the bomb with the palace sauce. The woman was extremely nice and gave me samples to try first. The Mini Wini was tasty. I’m so mad I lived in Hillside for two years and this was my first time ever going!

The food was delicious! The staff was friendly and service was great. They gave us a sample of their apple jerk chicken and the Hillside Lemonade. Coming from Philly, I was pleasantly surprised Can’t wait to eat the leftovers tomorrow.

I don’t easily give 5 stars, but whoa, this place is truly worth it! Got the sassy fried fish special that comes with Mac n cheese n collard greens. They threw some sweet potatoes in there too! I don’t know the last time I ate somewhere and did not have to add ant seasoning, not even salt! No one asked me if I had been here before, but I did hear them ask someone else. But I don’t care cause I will def be back. I also heard a few customers order pineapple this or pineapple that so I’ll prob try something pineapply next time. Had this place bookmarked for a while, just wish I had tried them sooner.

Potato salad and yams were good. The collards were interesting and had a sweetness to it if that’s your thing. Fish lack flavor and season. Mac and cheese was very blah and basic. The shrimp was heavily breaded and didn’t taste like shrimp at all. The shrimp also has this off putting texture and taste maybe because it wasn’t fresh shrimp I’m not sure.

Place has very good eats. Everything is flavorful. I’ve never been to a place where they offer you free samples if you’re new or if you’re tryin Gn something that you are unsure of getting. The only thing that I dislike is that they, like most places, use dark meet for their special chicken items, however try have whole pieces of white meet selection as well. I will cottoned to go to this place for take out as their food is always a delight to eat.

This place is the truth… yes siiiiiiir… This is a take out joint… The menu is AMAZING… AMAZING is not even the word… Since I’ve been frequenting Jersey because of my job etc… I am always looking for the next best place to get some food… So here I go scouring through Unilocal and I came across this spot… granted it is in the hood… but the hood I will go for some goooooooooood food… and that I did… I walked in and told the Lady in the front this is my first time… she said ok… well we give a tasting for all first timers… well dayum this place gets 5 stars just for that… I sampled all their favorites and it was DELICIOUS… Now I am wishing they were in Brooklyn but its alright they are on my way back home on the Garden State… I ordered the sexy sea salad… that is Grilled Tilapia Shrimp corn rice cheese over a bed of Lettuce and Tomatoes… Sexy Sea Salad is right… It was delicious… !

This place has some great tasting food, in general. I’ve been a Vegetarian for 9 months now so many of the choices they offer do not accommodate my diet anymore… However, that is NOT the reason why I stopped frequenting this establish. On my second/last visit(some months ago) as I waited for my platter to be made I noticed none other than a Cockroach just casually strolling across the heating panel on the wall. It was a huge one at that! I was automatically put off by this gross discovery and canceled my order. If you have critters casually walking around your restaurant then I sure don’t want to know what else is lurking! No thank you.

I’m the type of person who doesn’t mind traveling far to eat good food, whether it’s at a full service restaurant, a grease truck, or a small neighborhood eatery like the Grilled Chicken Palace. Little traveling is needed as this little gem is not that far from me. Palace Chicken Combo(Mango Chicken + Palace Chop Chicken w/White Sauce + Salad All Over Rice)($ 18…)(A-): I never order«sweet entrees,» but the mango chicken(with real slices of mango) was one of my favorite items today. It goes well with the yellow rice and isn’t too sweet. The grilled chicken with white sauce was a must have for me; the white sauce is light and herby, while the chicken itself was well seasoned. The slaw consisting of squash, cucumber, cabbage, broccoli, and carrots had a peppery kick to it. More importantly, the vegetables were crispy and fresh. We also ordered the special(Grilled Teriyaki Chicken Stirred w/Vegetables($ 8.95)), which was similar but with teriyaki instead. Corn Bread Muffin(A+)($ 0.60): Let me say it now… this was – hands down – the best corn bread muffin I’ve ever had. It’s perfectly moist, slightly sweet, and has real corn in each bite! The half that the owner let us try was all I needed to buy two for the road. Service(A+): No amount of stars or a letter grade can show how friendly everyone here is – from the owner to even other customers, this little eatery will make you feel welcomed. It isn’t just the many free samples the owner gives out. She’s friendly, inviting, and really wants you to try her cooking. The portions were great with the takeout aluminum pan and take out box being filled to the top. It’s not fancy, but this places serves a variety of dishes that you would expect to order at a full service restaurant. There are a few stools and a corner bar table for you to eat in, but for the most part, it’s a takeout type of place. Even though parking is a bit tough, I’m coming back for more, especially for the seafood dishes.

AWWW is all I can say, I had to run on a business errand with my colleague. So passing through Hillside I decided to stop at Chicken Palace as I heard so many complimenting things. I was greeted by a warm smile and asked was this my first time, I explained yes and she gave me a few samples of the special of the day(cajun chicken) my palette started to sing the food was hot and full of flavor. This will be a favorite for me and a frequently visited restaurant. Food really dances in your mouth

Am only sorry I had not tried the Palace sooner!!! Walked in for the first time today, and was treated to the tasting tour — which only made me want to order EVERYTHING they gave me to sample!!! Before you even walk thru the door, the smells great you from 50 feet away, enticing you, and assuring you that you are in for a delicious experience. I wound up going with the Fiesta Chopped Chicken special — a party in your mouth! Full of flavour, spicy(but not overwhelming), a generous portion(took home half of it for my husband to sample!). Slightly pricey for lunch, but worth every penny, especially considering the amount of food. Too many good choices on the menu to know what I will try next — but I look forward to my next visit… perhaps lunch tomorrow???

If you live in Essex or Union county and have not eaten at this place then idk what you are soon with your life! I’ve tried the sassy fried fish with Mac n cheese, collard greens, yams, potato salad, vegetables, rice, pineapple chicken, chopped salmon and spinach linguine in a garlic butter sauce, sweet potato cheesecake, coconut pineapple cake, banana crumble, corn muffin and more lmao. As you can see I’m a fan! And everything tastes soooo good! Taste like grandmas recipes! And they have a lot of very healthy selections on the menu. The servers are so hospitable and professional. The head chef is a woman! And if it’s your first time you get a sample platter! The owner is this amazing strong black woman who runs her business to the T! I wish I could eat here at least 3xs a week!

Their food is a real treat, as long as we don’t want to accomplish any work at all for the next three hours! I’ve been stopping in at Palace since Miss J opened her store about 5⁄6 years ago. I sell Nissans in the area, so sometimes we need to branch out for a more satisfying lunch. We love the sexy 1 and the sexy sea, one is salad based with a great mix of tilapia, shrimp, corn etc… The other is a rich creamy sauced up pasta with a similar ocean blend. The cream sauce drizzled Palace chicken with its rice n beans and homemade slaw with veggies is a fantastic stand by.

I found the food to be a bit oily. I ordered the Tilapia/shrimp with yellow rice. The fish seemed fresh. The shrimp were baby shrimp, frozen. It was in a butter garlic sauce that seemed more oil than anything else. Left an aftertaste in my mouth. I would not go back.

— 1 Star from my previous review. Before being transferred down south(Robbinsville) for my job I needed some last meals in Hillside. GCP as we call it was on the list. I normally only like to eat here when it’s cold out. The food is hardy and rib sticking so I feel like it is best on those cold days in the hood. I ordered the classic meal… Palace Chicken over rice w/extra white sauce. The sauce is awesome… the chicken… just didn’t have the extra something I used to taste. It used to be more aggressively seasoned and just had a flavor that was next level. It’s on the more expensive end of lunch so I would appreciate some consistency. If in the area again I will return and re– update.

I love this place! Great take out service. New customers can sample, and regular customers can sample something new or something they are unsure about. I never had anything on their regular menu, but I have tried many specials. I would call in and ask for what specials are for the day. They offer specials from soul food, west indian food, and some great chicken and seafood concoctions. They honey garlic wings, rice and peas, and anything with beef are my favorites. I never had a bad meal. Everything always exceeds my expectationas. Everything is so fresh, with perfect blend of seasoning. Even the cakes, and ice teas are delish. This is a place you can easily find yourself coming back to over and over again! I been on a hiatis because everything was going to my gut! Overall, spot is a must try. Great place to have in mind when you want a good filling meal, but don’t feel like cooking or dining out.
