Not sure if because it was Father’s Day, but the restaurant doesn’t look clean behind the scenes, the parking lot even reeked with the smell of dirty grease. When I walked inside I saw flies flying around. Not good. I had baked turkey wings and they were terrible. No seasoning and tasted like they had been sitting out all day. They left a bad after taste in my mouth, that I can’t rid of. The fried chicken and cornbread was good, which I decided to taste off my husband and daughters plate. Overall this place needs to be cleaned from the outside to the inside. I will never return.

I have to say that this food made it over average. I had the smothered pork chops, and they where tender… The chix wings average, pintoe beans tender, and mac & cheese good. the side of greens where ok? I know greens being from Louisiana… The chef played it safe not to over season the food, or don’t know how to season food like we country folks do. Maybe I’ll give other items a try and bring my own seasoning packs.

The food is pretty good but the service will make you not come back which is what happened to me. I’ve been here several times and have yet to have a good experience. The wait time in the to go like is way too long(at least 30 min) for to go especially because you could go through the dine in line and just get a container. They also charge for everything. I got a veggie platter and got my 4 sides in one Styrofoam container. When I asked for a couple of small containers so that the juice from my greens wouldn’t be everywhere I was charged an extra 2 dollars and expected to put the food in myself after just paying 12 dollars for some sides. They also open run out of food too. I would say just cook the food yourself and save yourself the headache. It costs too much to be treated like crap.

Ooooh Weeee!!! I really enjoyed myself on Sunday, I had the fried chicken, dressing and gravy, macaroni and cheese. Being from out of town, I’m going by what others suggest, and I’ll admit, this was a great pick!!! The people were very pleasant also!!!

The food is good but don’t go there around lunch or Sunday afternoon very very crowded staff can do better seems very unprofessional unlike there restaurant in Handover Park, my experience at there Hillside location was terrible no one to help you with takes out your standing there for awhile. Staff seems rude and very unfriendly ask for a refill of my drink staff ignored me this location need to work on their staff and speed.

Just walked out of this place, and let me tell you one thing, they got a good thing going here. A mash up of everything you want in a buffet style mom&popish soul food place! The food is the star! The catfish, chicken, short ribs, smothered pork chops… They all looked absolutely stunning(in my Gordon Ramsey voice) I had the catfish since I’m not eating meat for lent and I didn’t feel like I missed anything because the fish was fresh, fried to perfection and hot! I had Mac and cheese(seemed like a crowd favorite) and the greens, also comes with a cornbread that is really tasty! My girlfriend had the short ribs smothered in gravy, it was hard not to jump across the table and steal a piece because it fell off the bone so beautifully, a tear came out of my eye, not gonna lie it was quite a scene haha(but seriously the ribs were cooked by a master) There was a long line, it was worth the wait. Drinks are free refill so that’s nice, and the price was what you would expect.($ 13 for the fish meal) I want to come back to this place ASAP! the place was packed with a great crowd and the service was amazing! There really are no complaints, only reasons it doesn’t get a 5 star review is that it was cold in the dining area, the door opens a lot and it gets drafty. There, that’s it, my only complaint! Haha Check this place out if you’re around, with a drive as well

Not the best place to eat. First off the chicken was dry and cold, the yams needed more suga, the corn muffin was dry but the mac n cheese was good. The server took 15 mins to bring water, it was not worth my travel time and no I will never go back again.

I love this place. I go whenever I get a chance. I would not recommend Sundays at all of course. But if you can get in there during the week I advise to go. They are so good and very nice people.

My husband and I stopped by Pricilla’s yesterday early evening for carry out after I’d mentioned to him someone highly recommended this hidden gem to me. And hidden gem it IS! It’s right off the corner of busy Roosevelt Rd in Hillside. It wasn’t too crowded and it would have been a perfect time to dine-in; if we weren’t on a tight schedule trying to get a meal and make it to a comedy show in a couple hours. There was a THURS list of mouthwatering entrée’s to choose from(many more options than I’ve seen during a weekday at some soul food kitchens.) Staples like fried chicken & and fish to Baked chicken, Oxtails and Beef short ribs! I had a hard time deciding because everything looked SO good! I settled on the Beef short ribs. All entrees include a corn muffin & a choice of 2 sides — choose from spaghetti, green beans w/potatoes, collard greens with turkey or pork, mac n cheese, yams, corn, mashed potatoes & more! I chose the mac & cheese & collard greens. Entrée prices range from $ 9.99 — $ 14.99. My husband decided on the house specialty 3pc white fried chicken, spaghetti & Mac n cheese. The value for the amount of food you receive is nothing short of AMAZING. The meals were securely packed & our wait was minimal. I could barely contain my tastebuds on the drive home! Everything smelled so good. E v e r y t h i n g was perfectly seasoned and it taste like ‘Big Mama’ spent all day in the kitchen preparing a home cooked meal with love! Customer service was with a smile, even when the early dinner crowd began to trickle in making it busier & more crowed. I can’t believe I’m just learning about this place! Did I mention how generous the portions are? I ate plenty for dinner, put leftovers in the fridge & feasted again for lunch today! If you like good soul-food & pleasant service in a timely fashion, you must try Pricilla’s!

I heard great things about the food here and they did not disappoint. The catfish, collard greens with ham and corn I ordered was awesome! My daughter ordered shrimp, Mac and cheese & rice was great as well. The true reason I gave 3 stars was because of the servers. The servers behind the counter were not polite, a hello would be nice. All they said was«What’ll you have?» My 8year old has more manners then they did. Then they said give my receipt to my server so when my daughters shrimp was ready they’ll bring it to my table. My «server» an older gentleman who never gave his name or introduced himself was not serving our table at all. He kept looking passed us to his other tables like we were glass. When our shrimp was up and I went to the food line and picked it up. The cook said«no, a server has to get it». I grabbed my food that I paid for and told her«I’m not going to let my daughters food get cold waiting on the server». The server brought us water halfway through our meal and another server asked, «did he give you cocktail sauce with your shrimp?» We said no!!! I asked for a box from the nicer lady server as she gave us cocktail sauce. Customer service is key to keeping a good business going. The food was a 5 star but the service made me give a 3 star

It is a cafeteria you have to remember that but a damn good one. Fish is great and short ribs good. All the sides are at least decent. The yams are amazing. And greens good. Big portions.

I’ve been here about 3 – 4 times & I’ve always gotten the same thing each time: Fried chicken, short ribs, greens, & yams. Short ribs THEBOMB.COM!!! Chicken is good, but sometimes it hasn’t been as fresh as it should be, but it’s always seasoned well. Greens were good, yams were a lil too sweet this last trip. Nice workers. Nice atmosphere for dining in. You can also order take out. Meals are on the pricey end. BEWARETHEYHAVEWEIRDHOURS!!! Everytime I try to go they’re closed. So call 1st.

Officially the best soul food restaurant in Illinois. Love this place, and i rarely give restaurants 5 stars. My go-to meal is typically the deep fried catfish that is seasoned to perfection(you dont even need to add hot sauce). Their short ribs are really good, very tender, with a gravy sauce that smothers it. Their wings are absolutely amazing and fried well. Now we can move on to their side dishes. They offer so many items: greens, rice & gravy, macaroni, dressing, sweet potatoes, and about 5 – 6 more dishes. My absolute favorite is the macaroni and cheese. Every 2 months i treat myself to a product with dairy in it, and this would be one of those times. Any time im here i have to have the macaroni. Next, i love their okra. I know most people like fried okra instead, but i happen to not be one of those people. The okra is seasoned well and extremely flavorful. I dont eat everyone’s dressing, but their dressing is definitely in my top 3 favorite. They also are reasonably priced for catering food during Thanksgiving and Christmas, which i did for the first time last year. You wont be unsatisfied with your meal here(unless you aren’t a fan of soul food), but I am and love coming here on Sundays to get my day going!

Fried Chicken, Black Eye’d Peas, Collard Greens, Mac n Cheese, Corn Bread… What’s not to like? This is a place worth experiencing. The food is good and the people were exceptional. I was surprised when I first walked it, I hadn’t realized it was cafeteria style but this is okay with me. Actually, it is better because I was able to look at the food before I ordered. For example, I was considering on ordering Okra but when I saw it, it wasn’t deep fried which is how I like it, as a result I skipped it(unless I was looking at the wrong thing). It states«Comfort Food» on the front of the building and this sums it up completely. Also, the Ambiance was comfortable and open to all walks of life. If you have a giant SUV or one of those dual cab dually pickup trucks, I suggest you park in the overflow lot which is just East of Priscilla’s. The parking lot is tricky and tight in some areas. The only thing that occurred that shaved one star is that my Fried Chicken was room temperature if not a touch on the cool side. I understand that these things happen though and I’ll be back. Good Job people at Priscilla’s!

I knew that I wasn’t trying to turn the stove on in 90 degree weather but at the same time it was time to feed me. I got on Unilocal and found Priscilla’s. I was like hey now; it’s feed up time. Plenty of options from fish, chicken(of course) beef and a variety of side dishes to boot. It’s basically a meat and two sides kind of set up. They post what items they have and on what days and if you leave here hungry it’s because you are just plain stubborn. I got the short ribs of beef, collards and sweet potatoes or yams for ya southerners and a moist corn muffin. I had a belly full and the food needed no additional seasoning and the portions were generous. Table service by attendants to refill your drinks and bus your table. The sweet tea was delightful but not so sweet that it was diabetes water. This location offers free wifi and plenty of parking in the rear of the establishment. I can definitely see myself going back and trying other items on their vast menu. I had my mouth tuned for some oxtails but I was a day late. Call if in doubt on what’s offered on any particular day.

Priscilla hails from Alabama and I was told that she made the gumbo that was on that day. The gumbo was outstanding and this is from someone who lived on the Gulf Coast for over three years with numerous trips to New Iberia, Lafayette, and Saint Martinville in Louisiana. I am so glad I decided to go back and get a cup of this gumbo as I was leaving. The day I went to go sample some food there were a few customers but there was still plenty of room if you decided to dine in. I went with the Mac n cheese, collard greens, and smothered pork chops and it comes with a corn muffin. Each meal comes with two sides. The gravy on the tender chops was excellent and had great flavor. Seasoning was sufficient and not overpowering. The thickness of the gravy made for great sopping with my muffin. The collard greens were cooked just the way I liked it with some red paper flakes and pieces of hocks in it. Excellent flavor with a bit of heat. Mac n cheese was not the store bought stuff. It was the real deal and not just clumps of cheese. If you decide to go you might want to give them a call to see what is being served as each day brings a different selection of items. No matter what you choose I am sure you will be more than happy with your choice.

I was quite disappointed. This disappointment came from a 29-year-old«young lady»(as southerns like to refer to girls and women at all ages) who spent seven(7) year in South Carolina and knew her soul food. In fact, my in-laws and all husband’s side of family were from Sumter, SC. Hence, when one of my colleagues recommended Priscilla’s, I reckoned the importance to find out if this place was indeed the real deal. I’ve had one of the best while living in SC. Many of you knew Guy Fieri’s «Diners, Drive-ins, and Dives.» There was an episode featuring the«Farmer’s Shed,» which is an awesome place for soul food and they do it well. I know Chicago’s west Suburbs are way above the Mason-Dixie line. In this case, I will utilize the«Lizard’s Thicket» as my control group, and Priscilla’s as the experimental group. That’s right! Soul-food comparisons ought to be done as «scientific» as possible, without a doubt! By the way, «Lizard’s Thicket» is a chain, existing only in South Carolina, specializing southern food, if you haven’t heard of it. I had the gumbo, and hubby chose the fried fish, with macaroni & cheese and candied yams as his sides. All meals came with corn bread. My gumbo was just ordinary. I found it unattractive and lacked«personality.» The corn bread was a bit hard but still edible. On the other hand, the candied yams were WAYTOO cloying; I couldn’t taste the natural sweetness coming from the yams at all. Someone must have mimicked the«Morton Salt» incident and replayed it with sugar onto the yams hubby was consuming. The funny thing was the macaroni & cheese was very bland; there was nothing special to it. The fried fish probably was the best dish out of everything we ordered. It was well-seasoned. The fish was crispy on the outside, and moist on the inside. The cleanliness and friendly service were the saving grace to salvage my rating to Priscilla’s. The entire dining room was tidy and comfortable. The young man was very kind and continued to re-fill our drinks with his genuine smile. I don’t see myself coming back here based on the food we had this evening. Sorry, Jessica(the colleague who suggested this place).

Alright food… Ordered take out. My mother is from the South, so she loves all Southern meals. This didn’t really do it for us though We had the rib tips — YUM — fall off the bone delicious, salisbury steak — was too tough, sweet yams, greens, cabbage, pinto beans, and cornbread — too sweet — not the kind Ma enjoys… It was about $ 30 for two dinners. Bigger helpings. Parking wasn’t awful for me; went around 430pm on a Wed. Priscilla’s was not busy — more people at the pick up counter than actually dining in. The counter girl wasn’t too friendly and the phone girl taking my order seemed frazzled. Might return someday to give this place another shot
