Drove two hours to get there, and we were unable to proceed unless you pay the thug-like locals $ 15 per person to drive you down there in their beat-up old van with crappy seats. Now these seats are not regular car seats… these are like plywood nailed onto to van with no seatbelts. These bastards are unlicensed and unpleasant with disregards to any passenger comfort and safety. The restroom is a homemade shack with a broken toilet and flies everywhere. Very unsanitary. Bring your own wipes. Our family sat in the van for over 30 minutes, waiting for the driver to hustle a few more passengers, but nobody wanted a ride so we waited and waited. I asked another driver in the lot how much he was charging, and he said it was going to be $ 100 per person. Sh#t, I could have rented a helicopter for that price! Finally, we got tired of waiting, so we got out of the van and decided to spend our money on a nice lunch instead. The driver cussed us out, but we did not want to be confrontational on our vacation.

Nice place. Able to drive there without 4 wheel drive even though we had it. Very bumpy ride. It was nice to go there and check it out. It’s a 3 mile ride. Wouldn’t hike it myself. It was cool and had a great swim but due to how crapy a road it is to get there don’t think I’ll go back. BUT if you get there at sunup there’s always a few skinny dippers catching a morning swim

After driving for nearly 2 hours from Kailua we got to the rediculous bumpy paved road. After reading other reviews I knew this was going to be bothersome but our rental van could make it. Not only was the single lane road extremely bumpy but I had a full bladder because there is no sign saying last stop for 20 miles etc. So we pull up to a parking lot sign and are greeted by hawiians. They tell us it’s $ 30 pp not $ 15 like others had previously reported. They said it’s $ 15 each way per person!!! We also have a little baby they said we had to hold him on our laps down a crazy bumpy dirt road with giant holes and mountains so we said no we would try to walk the 3 miles. I had no idea what we where doing when we said this. My husband and I are regular hikers and brought great shoes and wore light clothes and carried water(and a baby hiking backback). We thought it was pretty at first then 10 minutes in we started feeling the effects of the heat and fatigue set in. We passed a sign that said to drive slow and be respectful with aloha spirit of the lands which is passed a boat launching area. We then made it about another mile and people who where walking back kept mentioning how ‘brave’ we where to bring a baby. I noticed none of the people had children or babies walking in either direction but put it in the back or my mind. We get to the top of a lookout and someone mentions it’s another mile and half to the edge of greensands then a steep hike down a cliff!!! At this point I was so livid and was arguing with my husband about why he didn’t think to bring cash down for a ride. We decided to turn around and go back. We made it back to the car soaking in sweat with around screaming baby who was so hot in just his diaper. I would definately not give this any stars if I could. To top it off the guides kept driving by us asking if we wanted to pay for around ride and had no one in the cars several times and I told them I would but we have no cash and they just went on their way. How very upsetting to see this unaloha-like spirit. No compassion given even with a baby its all money for these people.

It’s a 3 mile walk to this beach. Taxi($ 15 round trip pp) highly recommended. After driving about 20 mins through rough/steep Tourane we finally made it to the beach. Water was warm, amazing views HOWEVER the sand was not green Lol

Absolutely worth the drive to the south point of the big island. It is even more worth it to hire one of the many guides to drive you to the beach instead of trying to hike on your own.
