Dr. Hirata’s staff is great! His bedside manner ok. Not easy to talk to. Has an insensitive demeanor; smarty pants way of speaking. I’m afraid to ask questions; he’ll make me feel stupid. Poor at offering information; assumes patient knows things. Once in a while he can be nice. Not satisfied time & time again. Moving on.

I have gone to Dr. Hirata 3 times to deal with some irregular bleeding/​hormone issues after having children. Each time, he has appeared unsympathetic and had poor bedside manner. I also feel like he treated me like a child. The second time I went in, he asked me questions that I know I answered previously and should have been in my chart. He also was clearly not listening when I was answering questions as his follow up questions did not make sense (ex-​I told him I had been bleeding for 9 days after starting the pill and he heard me say that I only took the pill for 9 days and then stopped). The birth control pills he prescribed made me nauseous, but when I called the office for help they told me I had to keep taking them until I could come in and see him but they couldn’t get me in for a few days. When I got in, he told me I could stop taking them. He prescribed new pills, which also made me nauseous, but they won’t help me at all over the phone, even though I’m in the process of moving to the mainland in a few days. I’ve had lots of doctors (on the mainland) that were more than willing to answer questions over the phone or e-​mail and write different prescriptions if needed without an appointment. I truly got the sense that they are more concerned about getting money for appointments, then the care of their patients. I would not recommend this doctor! If he made me feel this bad and this frustrated with ongoing ob problems, I cannot even imagine how I would have felt when I was pregnant.

Dr. Hirata actually listens and spends time with his patients. I have never had to wait more than 10 minutes and I always feel welcomed there. From what I heard in our childbirth classes, other OB/​Gyns in the area are awful (and I experienced one of them… ugh).

Such a sweet Dr. that takes his time and listens to you. Great!
