Le is her name, the cute little Viet woman running the truck she dotes as the Yellow Sub. And voila: Le Yellow Sub 2Go. She puts out real, authentic and simple Vietnamese food. A smaller menu. Particularly bahn mis, which I would say is her golden goose. She has plates with rice and noodles too, noodle salads, papaya salad, tofu and pumpkin options. Personally, this is the best bahn mi sandwich around that I’ve had, and I’m a regular when on island. So I Repeat: THEBESTBAHNMIONISLAND. If you’re familiar with bahn mi sandwiches, it’s all there, everything you expect and want, with fresh and superior ingredients, noteworthy French bread-which you should know is a must, and she does not hold out on the Viet hot peppers(I think they’re just regular raw jalapeños though). Her lemongrass chicken is amazing flavor and my favorite part of her bahn mi style is the sauce she drizzles over your protein choice. It’s got a little kick to it and it’s what brings it home for me. SOSOOOOGOOD! I could eat her bahn mi every day. This is my kind of fast food, no fuss, quick and easy. Sandwiches are $ 6.45 now. They are are huge. And stuffed over the top. I rarely finish the last bite(Blue Zone). Be prepared to hose yourself down afterwards. Luckily I always have hand sanitizer in my purse and Le is always the sweetest. She gives me a wet towel after I eat. I love her energy.

WOW. Enjoyed an incredibly flavorful chicken lemongrass banh-mi sandwich bursting with the freshest ingredients today. For $ 6, prices are super reasonable considering the high quality ingredients used. I’m talking well-seasoned chicken, beautiful cucumbers & tomatoes, pickled radish, cilantro… and a subtle kick of spicy sauce. Just perfection. I loved the way the fresh-baked, soft baguette held it all together, making for a mess-free, easy to eat sandwich. Impressive. Everything is made fresh to order, so do anticipate a bit of a wait. While chatting with the friendly owner, I found out that she makes everything(except for the bread) from scratch! Where has this place been all of my life?! I’d be a regular customer if this awesome little truck wasn’t located so far away from my workplace & if they were open on weekends too. Hours are Monday — Friday, 10am-4pm. Oh & it’s cash only, so come prepared!

Oh my yum. Got the tofu bahn mi and loved it. Loads of fresh veggies, deliciously spicy sauce, fried tofu with a hint of lime and lemongrass. She doesn’t skimp on the fillings. And the bread! Toasty crust, soft and chewy middle. Sure I’ve had french rolls before but these rolls are different and I can’t quite put my finger on it. It’s just so good. And for $ 6, are you kidding me? I would eat here everyday if I could. My guy got the pork plate with jasmine rice and really enjoyed it. Everything is made to order. Fresh and delicious.

Stopped off here for lunch for me and three co-workers. First impression was great. Happy customers eager to recommend their favorites, the smell was amazing, and the Auntie running the place was as cute and nice as could be. Everyone enjoyed the food so I’m back the next morning waiting to try the breakfast sandwich!

I work in Hilo and find myself here probably once a week. The wait is worth it, because the food is made to order from healthy and tasty ingredients. I always get the bun tofu(noodle salad) and often, the veg spring rolls, wonderfully peppery. The cook is friendly and sweet, and doesn’t sacrifice quality for speed. I almost hesitate to give this review for fear of having a longer wait!

You must go to this place! Coming from Toronto where I thought we had good Vietnamese food, and having been to Vietnam I have to say that this place does offer very authentic and great Vietnamese food. The bahn mis are superb, filled with a lot of meat, this bun is overflowing with the fillings. The noodle salad is also very tasty, noodles are well cooked with a nice bite to them. Papaya salad is more of a Thai thing, but again it is amazing. Very refreshing and you get a really big portion. Drinks are delicious, the fresh lime juice is sweetened just enough. It is not overly sweet which I find many places often do for citrus drinks. Owner is also very friendly! Talk to her as she is very personable and welcoming!

The food is good and cheap. Wait is kind of long for food truck service, but worth it.

The mouth watering banh-mi sandwich was chock full of fresh veggies along with the chicken and toasted bun. It was like having a small salad inside which is much of what I love about Vietnamese food — all the veggies balancing out the carbs and protein. I will definitely be back for more. Yum!

I was on my way to Jack in the Box when I saw the yellow food trailer parked in front of a home located across the street from the driveway to KTA Puainako. I decided to try something different and drove into the little parking area. I ordered the lemongrass chicken bahn-mi and asked for it to be prepared spicy. It took a little longer than I anticipated to prepare, but the wait was worth it. It was DELICIOUS! Very fresh and every bite was full of flavor. The cilantro that was used seemed like it was picked right from the garden. Definitely worth the $ 6.25 that I paid. The owner is so welcoming and sweet. Can’t wait to go back to try the tofu bahn-mi and summer rolls.

Right up my flavor palette! I’m a big fan of Vietnamese food and this food truck doesn’t dissapoint. Good quality for a reasonable price. Tried it for the first time this week and already back three days later. The lady is very sweet and you can tell she is passionate about her food. It is only one lady in the kitchen so if you have a order for three or more I suggest calling in your order 30 minutes before. It’s delicious fresh food so don’t expect fast food speed.

I got the chicken sandwich & a thai ice tea. Both was super good and really resonable prices. The owner was great, really friendly and quick. The only bad thing is parking when it gets busy. I got blocked and had a hard time exiting while someone was trying to come in.

Gotta give a shot out to Le Yellow Sub 2Go… Best banh mi on the island(spicy chicken… yumm…pork meatball… yummm…tofu…yummm). Her summer and spring rolls are really good too. So glad I don’t need to wait for a trip to Honolulu to get a legit banh mi. Calling ahead will save you a little time, since its a one person shop with everything made to order. Yummmm

Ordered a spicy chicken banh-mi and a tofu banh-mi for lunch. Like previous reviewers claimed, the food was fresh and tasty. Husband had the spicy chicken and it reminded him of banh-mi he ate while stationed in Viet Nam. Authentic! My tofu sandwich tasted clean and fresh. Husband said that the bread tasted like rice bread he had in Nam and loved it! Friendly service, good fresh food and reasonable prices… we’ll be back!

I’ve had the lemongrass tofu bahn mi and the pumpkin tofu bahn mi from here. They are the best bahn mi I have EVER had. I cannot impress upon you how delicious these sandwiches are. I’ve also had the vegetarian egg rolls and they are also quite yummy. The lady is so sweet and friendly too. She makes everything to order, so everything is hot when you get it. I don’t know how she packs so much flavor into this tofu. Magic I guess.

This place was pretty tricky to find. It’s located on the same street as KAI store address: 2088 Kilauea st. Located between the KTA drive in sign and the puainako drive in sign. It’s located in a residents drive way so keep an eye out! We ordered the days special which was Bún lemongrass chicken with spring rolls. She was so nice and added in some lemongrass pork to try. This dish was very tasty! The meat was super flavorful. We also ordered the Banh Mi lemongrass chicken sandwich which was also tasty. It was a lil spicy for my boyfriend but I could of used a lil more heat myself! While we waited for our order she gave us some pickled veggies to try with. Complimentary ice tea. The owner is very friendly and super sweet! Check out this kute place when your hungry for some Vietnamese food!!!
