Lived here for 3 months and fortunate to enjoy all the many things Hilo has to offer in walking distance(golf course, tennis courts, parks, downtown, market, etc). I had safe, comfortable living accommodations and able to be as sociable or not with other guests staying from around the world. I was surprised to receive weekly fresh linens and towels given such a great monthly rate to boot. Doug and Sue were more than hospitable not only to me but to my guests visiting(at no additional expense!). At night I fell asleep to coqui frogs and woke up to a view of snow on Mauna Kea. Mucho Mahalos, Doug and Sue! A hui hou!

Stayed here for 10 days over the holidays. Sue and Doug are the best! Super friendly and helpful with anything you could need on Big Island. The rooms were great, you fall asleep to the sounds of coqui frogs. The whole stay was very relaxing. If you want plush resort-life, this obviously isn’t the place(go to the Kona side of the island), but it’s a great deal in Hilo and feels more real/local Hawaii. Great location in Hilo. You’re a quick walk to the outdoor market and some great restaurants. Easy to go out or just sit on the porch and drink coffee and look at the snow on Mauna Kea. Thanks for a great stay Sue and Doug! I hope to be back soon!

This little place is by far better than any«homey» hotel you could stay at in Hilo. It is very welcoming, open, and centrally located in Hilo. You have direct access to the Farmers Market, stores, and even restaurants, all within walking distance. Doug and Sue own the place and they are about as good as you can get when it comes to a temporary landlord. The moment we needed things they went and got it done within minutes. They ensured we had everything we needed to have a great vacation with them. Very clean and simple. Big bay folding doors lead out into a patio that overlooks the city going by at it’s natural Hawaiian pace. Highly suggest giving them a call and booking quickly! Such a great price for what you get. For those who enjoy drinking coffee from a warm front porch overcoming the city every morning and doesn’t mind some local attractions. Definitely the«true» Hawaii, not the pampered and fluffed up resort type, but for the true«laid back» kind. Thank you Doug and Sue for such a comfortable and affordable stay!

We stayed here for 5 nights. The owners were both very nice and helpful. They are located in a good location downtown close to everything. They included a list of nearby businesses on top of the microwave. The room has all the basic necessities like a mini fridge for you to store whatever food you buy, and a microwave. The only downside is that there is no Wifi. If you really need internet there is an Internet Café just a few feet down the street. If you want free wifi you’ll need to go to mcdonalds(also very close by). Another option is to use your phone as a mobile hotspot, the signal for t-mobile and att are great(didn’t test the others). By the time of this review, the situation might have changed. The owners were working on the wifi. I fully recommend staying here if you want something more private than a hostel, but do not want to pay for an expensive hotel room.
