Came with family for early bird dining. Great value and delicious food! Hugo himself came by to greet us. Larger location is also more inviting!

This place used to be quite a good restaurant. Not sure if they have recently come under new management, but our recent visit was a disaster where both the food and the service were terrible. Our salads were full of wilted and brown lettuce. We were incredulous that the kitchen staff plated lettuce of such poor quality and that our waiter delivered something so clearly inedible. We ordered She-Crab soup, but were instead served Sweet Potato soup. Our party consisted of both adults and children and our kids meals arrived with our appetizers. Our waiter never asked us if we would like the kids meals to arrive first. After the debacle with our soups and salads, the kids were long done eating and ready to go home before our entrees even arrived, forcing us to rush through our entrees. The very expensive steaks were merely edible and the seafood tasted frozen, not fresh. The quality of the food certainly does not justify this restaurant’s high prices. Save your money and instead try one of Hilton Head’s many other great restaurants.

Visiting Hilton Head and went to Hugo’s for dinner. Ordered broiled seafood platter with shrimp, scallops and flounder. Shrimp and scallops were very small and only 2 – 3 along with piece if flounder. We also ordered steak tips on Caesar salad and were charged for a Steak Diane entrée … Crazy! Lobster nachos were cheese sauce on crackers with tiny scraps of lobster on pita chips… Not real nachos! Overall food good but way overpriced. Waitress was excellent.

If you’re looking for McCormick & Schmick’s then this is not the place! If I would’ve gone by the previous comments I wouldn’t have given them a chance. The food was really good. My server was very personable and welcoming. The place is cozy. Kind of a «mom and pop» feel. Not the fanciest of places but I’d definitely visit again! It was just a party of 2. I went on a Monday night. Not many people there so my food came out really fast. We were in and out in under 45 minutes. Overall very nice experience.

After searching for a seafood restaurant that was 1.) open, and 2.) without an hour-long wait, we stumbled upon Hugo’s! The staff was very friendly, and the food was delicious! I had the crab legs, which were mouth-watering. We were a group of 4 adults and 2 small children. Our server did a great job!

I NEVER write Reviews but this time I Just Have too! This has got to be the worst Restaurant Experience I have ever had and I have been all over the World. Do not Eat here. Their Service was horrible! Not attentive at all and waiter looked as though he had Never took an order before. We were a large party and called ahead to see if we could be accommodated and we’re told yes. We got there and we’re at two separate tables when the Resturant was not busy maybe two other tables. No bread came until we had to ask for it, then came with butter that was so spiced up we had to ask for regular butter. That was just the start! Lamb came to the table Raw and Smelled like it had been sitting out for days. Like«old» meat. Told waiter it didn’t smell right and it wasn’t cooked and he took it back, came back cooked but still had an odor to it and I took a bite and almost threw up! Obviously I could not eat it! Several meals had to be taken back a total of four! The portions are pitiful and prices were ridiculous for what you get… Bad Meat, canned vegetables and hard bread that I am sure was left over from days before. Quality of food was poor a best! The mashed potatoes were so full of garlic you could have killed a Vampire! I beg all of you reading this. Don’t waste your money or time on this place!

Do not go to Hugo’s. Went for a family dinner while on vacation(18 people). The server seemed new and not attentive to the party. Food was delivered very sporadically and half the party did not receive food until the other half was done eating. Overpriced for the portions and a few dishes were sent back multiple times. The lamb that was ordered smelled and tastes rancid. The only good thing was the drinks although some of those got sent back due to dirty lipstick stained glassware. Will NEVER go back or recommend Hugo’s. Stay away.

Absolute bliss. The server was very nice, attentive and very accurate. We only had a table of 4 adults, but it was a comfy setting with a good atmosphere. We got the escargot app and a shrimp cocktail. Both were delicious, but I highly suggest the escargot as they cooked it to perfection, in a beautiful garlic butter sauce and topped it off with a flaky pastry crust. I got the she crab soup that was very satisfying and my wife got the french onion soup. The other couple got salads and commented that the mustard vinaigrette was good. I got the twin lobster tail and rice plate and it was just perfect. Cooked right, seasoned right and all around delectable. My wife and the other lady go steaks and enjoyed them thoroughly — one had a Dianne perp and the other a fillet. Our friend’s husband got the seafood trio fried and it was very good. Huge portion of grouper, a couple shrimp and a scallop or two. We only got the ice cream for the ladies on dessert, but it was the right topper at the end of a delightful meal. We will be back, and i highly suggest the escargot, and seafood trio.

If I just went by reviews, I may not have dined at Hugo’s. Fortunately, we were invited by family to joined them at Hugo’s. We had a great experience with a party of 14. The food was great. Remy, our server, was fantastic. I would recommend Hugo’s and I will be back.

Very poor meal. Low quality food. Ahi tuna had absolutely no taste and the risotto was too salty to eat. The crab cakes were mostly bread. Will not go back & would not recommend at all.

Weekend guest and I visited last night for a seafood dinner. Our selection was the grouper special, which was good and fresh, but the rice was far too salty. Our waiter was very nice and checked on us frequently.

Not worth the $$$! The menu gave detailed descriptions of dishes that were nothing like what we received, we were a group of 4 and none of us had anything worth eating or taking home when we did not eat it. Server was not rude but also a terrible service, no refills, gone for long periods, etc. don’t go there!

Terrible, terrible terrible! It took over an hour from ordering meal until it was served, even though we had advance reservations. Waitress did good job, but was overwhelmed. We were charged $ 8.75 per glass of HOUSE wine but when I complained to the manager, I was told that it was an eight ounce glass and I should not have a problem with that. Really! Food was OK but but not nearly worth the price and we had a BOGO! Don’t waste your time or money with this place, there are too many better restaurants on Hilton Head.

After many times on Hilton Head decided to give a new place a try. We went in and were seated very quickly. Ordered the lobster lollipops. They were ok, the lobster was a little dry. After a 45 min wait for the entrees, I finally got the seafood platter. The shrimp was like shrimp from Captain D’s, tasted frozen, the flounder was mushy and the scallops had way to much breading. The server Remi was really nice. But I will not be going back.

Wonderful service! Sam created a drink for me based on my preferences! Food was very good, we ordered off the early bird special menu(you have to ask for it). Ordered the lobster purse(a great dish but rather small portion) and honey pecan chicken. Sides were ok– rice was tasty but mashed potatoes were bland. Overall a nice experience!

Tuesday night in February, didn’t think we would need a reservation. Walked in and weren’t greeted. Then I said ‘two for dinner’ and the response was ‘do you have a reservation.’ After replying ‘no’, host walked to the back, came back and stated abruptly, ‘We are full. You can sit at the bar if you want.’ What the host didn’t know(or offer) is that we fully anticipated that we may have to wait for an available table. Their loss. Since we weren’t welcome, we left. We will Never be back.

This place never disappoints! I’ve been here multiple times, but most recently for Christmas dinner. Had the French onion soup as an app(which honestly could have used more cheese), and then a traditional turkey dinner. All were delicious. My fav on a regular night is the fried chicken(I think it’s officially called honey pecan chicken).

I read online they had an early bird special so I decided to take my mother for dinner. We walk in and the first thing I noticed was an awkward smell, not sure if it was mildewy or weird incense. They brought us full priced dinner menu and the waiter left for us to make our decision and returned promptly so I asked about the early bird menu and he seemed surprised I knew about it and brought me a separate menu. They weren’t willing to offer that information I suppose. I had the crab stuffed tilapia which was good but the rice that came with it was lukewarm at best and the broccoli was tasteless. My mother ordered the shrimp scampi from the regular menu and was sadly disappointed that it was tasteless and she wasn’t going to complain but I couldn’t bear seeing her play in her unsatisfying dish so I asked the waiter to bring some type of additional sauce to add flavor so he recommended a butter sauce which did nothing but make the noodles swim in butter. She would have been better off ordering one of the early bird special entrees. The waiter seemed to linger at nearby appearing to straighten and reset tables as if to listen in on our conversation which made my very uncomfortable. It was annoying and not a great experience. I definitely don’t think I’ll return since the menu was overpriced and there are many more dining selections.

Ok — This must have been an off night based on the reviews. We took our Mother here for Mother’s Day, which was memorable but not for the reasons you think. There were five of us. My Mom ordered(a seafood item) and was told they didn’t have what she ordered, my husband ordered(a steak item) and was told they did not have the steak he wanted. This is a Seafood and Steakhouse… right? I ordered the crab and asparagus soup(based on the raves and rewards mentioned on the menu) and after two spoonfulls I could not eat it since it was so awful. To their credit they asked why I did not eat it and after telling them that it was awful they took it off the bill. My husband, who eats anything, did not like it. I asked about the steak and lobster wellington and was told, «well you have had wellington haven’t you… we add lobster claws.» I’ll pass on the claws. Mother’s Day must not be a big deal in Hilton Head… No Happy Mother’s Wishes to my 81-year old Mother, who was obviously with her children. The food was terrible(all around), the rolls were hard and terrible(although garlic butter was good), the service was lackluster and the experience was awful… Happy Mother’s Day Mom… We will make it up to you!

Hugo’s Seafood and Steak is located in South Island Square off of William Hilton Parkway. It was opened after Fitzgerald’s closed. Now, I’ve never eaten at Fitzgerald’s but it was all people talked about in the dining room so I thought I’d point it out for those who happened to have fond memories of Fitzgerald’s. The first thing I noticed upon entering this restaurant and being seated, I was probably the youngest person in the place by about 30 years. I felt the average age creeping even higher as more tables were seated. I typically do not run with the older crowd so it made for an interesting dining experience. One of my dinner companions noted that it made him feel a bit uncomfortable being surrounded by so many old people. This place has great early bird and nightly specials that probably contribute to the high age bracket of the patrons. The early bird special is only $ 14.99(served from 4:30 to 6) and consists of a salad and entrée. They also have various nightly specials for the low price of $ 17.99. We went on Steak Lovers night so they offered a bourbon ribeye or a filet stuffed with crab or blue cheese for this price. The place was packed so it took a little while for our server to take our drink and food orders. It seemed that several of the diners were doing some sort of dinner and show thing and the server was focused on getting them fed and out the door in time for the show. We were a bit neglected at the beginning but service picked up as soon as the theater patrons were pushed out the door for their show. We stuffed our faces with bread to tide us over. The bread comes with a tasty garlic butter that you can slather all over your bread. I decided to go with seafood since we were at the beach. I ordered the stuffed shrimp with lobster newburg sauce. This dish consisted of 7 shrimp stuffed with crab meat and then broiled and topped with the lobster newburg sauce($ 18.79). The shrimp was very fresh and I liked both the crab stuffing and the accompanying sauce. The shrimp came with a rice pilaf and vegetable medley. The rice pilaf was nothing special but I did enjoy all of the veggies. I was debating between the stuffed shrimp and the scampi. I asked our server for the best option and she said that the scampi was a huge plate of food if I were really hungry, but that she really liked the stuffed shrimp. I’m glad I went with the stuffed shrimp. It was plenty of food and the flavors were really good. Two of the others in the party ordered the bourbon ribeye special and the third ordered the whole crispy flounder($ 19.59). They all seemed to enjoy their meals. We skipped out on dessert, but that seemed to be the highlight for many of the diners. They prepare the desserts tableside. Lots of bananas foster and shooting flames. The chef had to constantly warn people of the flames as he squeezed between tables. Overall, I thought that the food was good and the prices even better. It’s rare that you find restaurants with reasonable pricing while on vacation. We’ll definitely stop back by the next time we are on the island.
