This call box makes me wish I had an emergency. :(

I have only seen this emergency call box, and I’ve never used it. I have only once even considered using it, when I was fly-fishing up by the spillway and five drunk dudes emerged from the evening mist: «Seen any cops around here?» Uh, no. «We’re jumping!» Off the dam? «Yeah. And this guy can’t swim!» Oh. Uh, good luck. Now that would only have been a real emergency if one of them had stepped on my fly rod, or after jumping had landed on someone who actually had a brain. I used my cell to call the park people, but the lady who answered seemed to think this wasn’t a real emergency. I suppose. Still, I do have to wonder if that makes jumping off the dam, drunk, in the dark, while I’m just trying to scare up a bluegill with a little floating ant pattern somehow just hunky dory. Back to the Emergency Call Box. It looks sweet. Looks like it may work. Very, very well-situated, right under a streetlight, one of only a dozen or so lights of any kind within a mile. Still, I hesitate to give it more than three stars. Is it the best call box, even in the area? I kinda doubt that. My real suspicion, and the reason for only three stars, is that the same woman who put me on hold for the dam-jumping jugheads would be answering the call box. And she’s only getting one star, and that because at least she picked up. (Update: I realized after writing this that it is NOT the one by the Hinckley Lake spillway and picnic area, but rather by the Ledge Lake swimming pool. My apologies, but my ruling stands: Three stars. I do wonder, though, if anyone has every tried jumping off the LEDGE Lake dam. It would be tough, kind of like rolling down a hill, or those parachuting exercises where you jump out of a plane that’s still sitting on the tarmac.)
