Out of this world barbecue. Cannot stress how important it is to indulge at this place. Here’s the deal, go big. Grab«the Stevie» with a side of spicy potato salad. You will love it, it’s a mouthful of juicy meat on a fresh bun, covered in their sweet hot sauce. You gotta down Steve with sauce, your taste buds will thank you. You may be paying for it 6 hours later, but it’s well worth the pain and suffering.

Great service. Very generic flavor though. Their bbq sauce is not very flavorful. You can pick out the ingredients. They lack meals. And the rib tips are very over priced. I’d say they are too close to Famous Dave’s to make it worth another visit. This review is for their golf course location in Sandwich Il.

I took the hubby and daughter for Father’s Day lunch. It was a little crowded but looked interesting. We ordered Pulled Pork Sandwiches, Burnt Ends, Baked Beans, Fries, Spicy Potato Salad. OMG the Burnt Ends were delish!!! Everything was really good but I will be back for the Burnt Ends!

We went today, Father’s day, 2016, for our first time. Place was really busy but the line moved quick and gave us time to look over the menu. We ordered the Burnt ends, pulled pork sandwiches, fries, baked beans, a special potato salad with a great spicy sauce, corn muffins, and drinks. Pulled pork was phenomenal! Moist and delicious. The sauces on the table were both great, in fact we bought some to bring home. The burnt ends were moist and delicious not dry and over spiced like some other BBQ places I have been too. The baked beans had a really great smokey taste. Place was super busy. Highly recommend trying this place but go early in the day. We will be back quite often on the weekends as its about a one hour drive from me.

I love the burnt ends but you have to get them before they are gone. A little pricey but still very delicious.

We went to South Moon with very high expectations. Unfortunately, we are unable to attest to the alleged high quality of their food because our food never came. We waited for almost half an hour, watching various other parties receive their meals, still our food never came. Eventually we went up to the register to get a refund– here we realized that South Moon does not care about their customers. Apparently our order never got to the kitchen, so we had been waiting in vain. At this point, most other restaurants would offer apologies and throw in something to redeem their promise to the consumer, but nothing of the sort happened there. They gave us a refund and we were on our way; it truly seems like they didn’t care. Thanks for nothing, South Moon.

Oh man! Nothing beats smoked foods. I ordered the Chuck, this behemoth of a sandwich. Chicken, pork, brisket and brat on a bun. I was hungry and finished, but it’s not for the faint of heart. They also have a large variety of craft beers. I’m not one for cheap domestic urinewater, so a 90 minute IPA from Dogfish Head quenched my thirst. You won’t be disappointed

My first 5 star review. The BBQ is tender and the portions are generous. You will not be disappointed.

This place really is as good as it gets. Thanks to our friends, Dan & Sydney, for inviting us out to Hinckley to check out this place. You walk into the place and know this is a legit BBQ joint. I love the décor and the atmosphere. The workers are all extremely helpful and friendly. Now for the food. Being a Master BBQ Judge for KCBS, and with 70 competitions under my belt, I can say I have had some pretty amazing BBQ over the years. And this stacks up there with the best. Usually restaurant BBQ isn’t impressive. Not because the owners don’t try, but because it takes so long to smoke the meats, and then you have to put the meats in warmers to keep it warm until serving. This place does it the right way. I had the Chuck Norris sandwich. Wow! Wow! What an amazing work of art. They pile on all of the meats they smoke(except Ribs). So that includes a Pork Chop, Smoked Chicken, Sausage, Brisket, Pulled Pork and Burnt Ends. Each of the meats was perfect. The Sausage was first on top, and it was smokey, juicy and very tasty. The Pork Chop was next. It was awesome. The Chicken was tender and juicy, Pulled Pork was juicy and perfect, and the Burnt Ends were amazing. Now for the Brisket. I’ve eaten some amazing brisket in my time, and this Brisket was right up there with best of them. It was perfect. If I were to judge this at a judging table I would give it a 9, which is as high as it goes. Tender, juicy, and the pull test proved it was perfectly cooked. The sauces are great, too. If you love hot, ask for the Nitro sauce. Be careful if you are not used to extreme heat. To me it was too hot, which was shocking. I can handle heat, but this was painful. If you are going to have something that hot, have some chocolate bars there to help cut the heat. The other sauces were great. Love that they make their own sauces. I also had the chicken wings. They are pretty good, too. According to our friends they are a little smaller this time than when they were there before. But they were pretty great. They have a good kick to them, so if you can’t handle heat, don’t order them. We had fries and their smoked Mac ‘n Cheese. The fries have their rub on them, and are pretty good. They would be better if they were fresh cut. The smoked Mac ‘n Cheese was good. Now to the desserts. Wow! We had the Fried Cheesecake with chocolate drizzle and their new Peach Cobbler ala mode. It took a little longer to get our desserts, but it was worth the wait. The Fried Cheesecake was simply amazing. You have to try it to know what I’m talking about. The Peach Cobbler was also amazing. They put a touch of fresh nutmeg and that was the perfect touch. If you are in Hinckley, you must stop in here(and don’t be late because when it is gone, it is gone). If you have time to drive out to Hinckley, I highly recommend it. We will be back.

Waited a while just to receive cold food. Ordered the brisket sandwich which was dry meat piled onto a hamburger bun. My husband got wings which he found to be less than desirable.

Definitely a notable slip in quality going on. I have to agree with others who think the new locations are affecting quality. We drive a LONG way to come out, and gladly do it — spending $ 50 or $ 60 each time for two with enough to have leftovers — but it doesn’t seem as good, as fresh, as in the past. BBQ is an art, and Pork Chop is the artist. I think he’s spread thin now with the new places and can’t quite tend to the food the way he has in the past. Our slab of ribs this weekend was drier, chewier, than normal. Our friends who visited earlier in the same day reported the exact same experience. Still good last time but not that incredibly succulent, explode-in-your-mouth«MMMMMGOOD» that WOW’d us for a couple years. The kid of WOW that has you stripping the rib bones twice for every ort of goodness. Look at the reviews. How many restaurants are there in the area that bring people in from an hour or more away? Not many. I OHSOHOPE this place doesn’t lose that magic. Love the people and the ambience. Love the girls who serve the food and take the orders. Not so crazy about the explosion of customers, and the longer lines but oh well that’s good business. What’s not good business is a noticeable slip in quality right after the owners triple the size of their business. That usually forebodes bad things. I hope they get a handle on it.

The inside is filled with all kinds of stuff from vintage toys to a stop light. As you enter, you follow the path to the right to get to the register to place your order and then you can grab a seat to wait for your food. Bench style seating makes it good for big groups to gather and enjoy some good BBQ food. Plenty of street parking nearby. Burnt Ends $ 8.50 — Tender fatty pieces of meat. Corn Bread $ 0.99

Update. We returned to South Moon after a short hiatus and it seems that things have slipped quite a bit. It’s been a little while since we were there last because it’s such a drive from where we live to get to Hinckley. This visit we had a party of four and we each ordered the pulled pork sandwiches. Some of us really wanted beef brisket, but they had run out. That was not the first time we’d experienced that. On a previous trip to South Moon, as we were walking in, they were locking up early because they had«sold out» and were closing early. On our previous visits, we wound usually order a large basket of fries. The past couple times it seemed to be the right amount of fries but somehow there would never be enough and we’d be fighting over them. So I decided to order two or so I thought. When our sandwiches showed up, they gave us fries on the side with two of the sandwiches. I explained to the server what we really wanted were the large baskets of fries. She brought me back a check for another order of fries but it when they showed up it was another small order again. We simply wanted two large orders of fries but that was too complicated. To top things off, the food was cold. The meat on the sandwiches was cold and the fries that they gave us with the two sandwiches were room temperature. The last visit was a real let down. I can honestly say I probably won’t be back. If I want mediocre food and service, I don’t have to drive 30 miles for it.

Where do I start… The smells coming out of this place are delicious. Smoky and sweet, like you’d think a BBQ joint should be. Check out a menu online because there weren’t any at the counter when we ordered. We ended up with pulled pork, brisket, and burnt ends. The food came out fast and the staff was very friendly. The food was… an anomaly. It was very good, but… it didn’t taste like BBQ. The place smelled smoky, but somehow, the smoke didn’t make it into the meat. Good BBQ is delicious before you add the sauce, but this just didn’t have it. I found myself adding lots and lots of(extremely tasty, homemade) Sweet St Louis sauce to my brisket to make this feel like BBQ. My wife said the same of her pulled pork. Both meats were juicy, so maybe they need a dry rub while they slow-cook the meat? Sadly, the burnt ends were just chunks of(otherwise delicious) beef almost void of the«bark» that characterizes a good burnt end. The highlight of the meal were the fries. Probably in the top five French fries I’ve had. Seriously. Perfectly cooked and deliciously seasoned! Maybe I’m spoiled since we have family in the South and have had the privilege of backyard Georgia BBQ as well as dozens of other little roadside smoke-shacks, but South Moon is only average in my book…

WOW! What cool place! We first walked in and me being the nerd that I am was so excited to see all of the awesome memorabilia. The place was COVERED in posters, still in box action figures, signs, pretty much any cool vintage item my nerdy heart could want. As for the food, it was out of this world! To start we had pulled pork tacos and those alone could be a meal, but they were amazing! For our main dish we both got pulled pork sandwiches, and I got baked beans and my girlfriend got fries. Beans were probably the best I’ve ever had and the fries were perfectly cooked and seasoned to perfection. We will absolutely be going back! Thank you South Moon BBQ for an amazing dinner and for making my nerdy heart so so happy. –Jake and Molly

I must be on the rare side — because I just found this to be eh. I just wasn’t that impressed. I wanted to be, but, I just wasn’t. The brisket was so fatty there was barely any meat and it was so tough I had trouble even cutting thru it with my knife. It just wasn’t that great. Really disappointed.

Some of the best BBQ I’ve had in Chicago.(This isn’t TX, after all…). Love their home made sauces. Very reasonably priced. Service is amazingly fast! We had barely sat down after getting drinks and our meals arrived! As others have said, they do run out of certain items early. Understandably, considering the process. But you’d think they would figure out their budgets /sales after a while. The antique décor is a fun distraction. And really appreciated NO distracting TVs everywhere. Would definitely come back.
