Have been coming here since I was a little boy on our way to Nantasket. Now I bring my boys to enjoy the outstanding fried foods served up at Hingham Lobster Pound. This quaint roadside shack serves up excellent fried food. Their fried haddock plate offers a large portion of moist, tender, flaky and delicious fish. The batter is crisp and has a slight sweetness to it. The fries are excellent crispy crinkle cut. Their cole slaw has varied over the years — some years good and some not so good, often tasting as if commercially-produced. On this visit was finely chopped and very tasty — as if homemade. Son #1 had the fried clams, which are among the best we’ve found anywhere. The onion rings are very good as well, if slightly heavy. Son #2, who does not normally eat fried haddock, tried it and said that«it was much better than he expected!»(finally expanding his culinary horizons! :-) While waiting for your order you can enjoy the historic photos and ephemera from defunct restaurants and the old Paragon Park. So glad the Lobster Pound is back open for the season and is still here for generations(and our 3rd generation!) to enjoy!

These were maybe the best clams I had during the summer of 2015. And no ridiculous surcharge that almost everyone else charged(even tho no red tide or other excuses were going on). A good sized plate with fries(and cole slaw I think) for about $ 22. We also split a fried shrimp plate which I don’t get too often but that offered well fried, good sized shrimp. You need to take it down the street to the pretty park but it’s a good meal overall.

Honestly I don’t really know why you would ever serve a «lobster roll» on a round bun or on white bread. I don’t think I will ever purposely return here.

This is one of my favorite seafood places. Clams, lobster roll, fried bananas are all delicious. Everything is very fresh. Grilled salmon and swordfish are amazing as well! Highly recommended.

We just ate here a little while ago, and I would say to others, don’t bother. We had fried haddock plates-the batter was gross, and the fries were overdone. Drove farther than common sense told me, but my husband wanted to go there. Never again! It’s Burke’s Seafood for us from now on.

Nothing fantastic… But only had fried clams so you can’t really mess this up I guess… It’s take-out only but they do take charge cards.

I have been wanting to go here for a while. I’ve passed it a million times and I decided to give it a try. I really wanted to enjoy this place, honestly. I craved a good clam roll all day! The nostalgic décor and photographs, the cutesy shack like location, the indoor park benches to sit on while waiting in restaurant, everything seemed nice. The business even had a «we are loved on Unilocal» sticker on the glass! But, I did not enjoy the food or service. I ordered lunch with my mother and we finished ordering but DIDNTPAY and said we wanted to add chowder and bisque. The two women at the counter said we’d have to do a separate order(according to the sign) but we didn’t even pay yet. We asked if both orders would come out at the same time and the women seemed sort of frustrated. The food came out soon enough and my mom asked for extra tarter sauce. The woman once again seemed annoyed and my mom asked for a second(both her and I wanted one) and she seemed bothered. But, it was Memorial Day and I’ll give her the benefit of the doubt. Now for the food. The chowder I had was water, soupy, disgusting. Nothing close to the classic New England chowder the business has claimed to said. The bisque smelt so disgusting my mom couldn’t hold it down and tossed the bisque. My mom scallop roll was good but my clam roll was a grease trap with crumbs of fried balls every where(barely any clam). I won’t be coming here again.

Everything is amazing except for their fried pickles… They use store shelf pickles instead of fresh crisp pickles… If they changed this they would be a perfect five star

I prefer the fried clams here to legal seafood and captain mardens. Great fried haddock sandwhiches only 4.75 a steal. Decent onion rings although not as good as the legal onion strings. No tables to sit down at as this is a local takeout place. I prefer this to kellys in weymouth or the clam box on wollaston beach. Definitely 5 stars when you dont feel lime driving to ipswich or essex on the north shore. I am a regular when i am in town.

Lobster Roll was about a half of a ice cream scoop portion of meat on a soggy sesame bun, wilted lettuce an two pickle chips. A bag of Lay’s and a Snapple set me back $ 16.00! Flavor was bland and quality was not up to standard for this region. In the end, I felt ripped off.

Fired clams were decent but not exceptional. Lobster roll was served on a hamburger bun. Who does that? Lobster was simply prepared but there was not a lot of it. Granted it was only 12.99 which is cheap for a lobster roll. Charge me 20 $ and give me something that will fill me up. And for all that is holy by the sea get some rolls. It’s a lobster roll not a lobster bun. Net is worth stopping if you’re in the area but not worth a drive.

First you take your life in your hands parking. Only parking on a busy street. Long line at the window(take out only) so my wife and I figure it must be good, right? WRONG! The fried clams had so much breading on them you can hardly taste the clam. The fries are nothing special and drinks, like everything else, it’s all over priced. We should have gone anywhere else, as anyplace would be better than this place Did I mention the surely wait staff? They make you feel like they are doing you a favor serving you over priced, seafood drowning in breading. It’s like eating at my mother’s house as a kid. To top off this culinary nightmare, there is no bathroom. They tell you to go to the Starbucks up the street. I wish I could give them negative stars. Or make them eat their own food. Go somewhere else, anywhere else for seafood. Go buy Gorton’s at the Stop&Shop, buy a bottle of wine and eat at home. At least you’ll have a bathroom close by. Unless of course you like using the bathroom at Starbucks!

Terrible scallop roll. Scallops were tough, stringy and covered with a thick, heavy, greasy batter that mostly fell off. Inedible, worst ever really. Considering some good reviews here, the place must have consistency problems.

Assigning a deserved two stars, but with a heavy heart. It’s the kind of place where we all want to be regulars. Narrow, cramped, take away with oh-so-intimate benches. The quarter board for charitable donations. A Good & Plenty candy jar with all the jewels stuck together. All the old people. The charm is undeniable. It’s the food that needs something extra. And perhaps we just went with the wrong dishes, although it’s my belief that any lobster pound that serves a stale, flavorless lobster roll is doing it wrong. Content was there — albeit on a hamburger bun — but the mineral bite was missing, and the meat had a too gummy texture. Attention turned to a broken clam chowder, oily to the max and having me genuinely wonder if they topped the cup with a squeeze of butter flavored popcorn oil. Maybe a half a clam strip in its depths, maybe. Plenty of potato. We swing by the pound on the regular, and judging by other reviews, the fried food is where its at, so I’m not afraid to take a second plunge. But I’ll be damned if the first dip in this pool didn’t leave me all wet.

The line was out the door, so that must be a great thing right? Wrong… I love fried fish as much as the next person for a summer treat, but this is just middle of the road, over breaded expensive fried food. The fish was fresh I will give them that. However the breading they used was so thick and heavy that I ended up peeling off a lot of it just to avoid the stomach ache at the end. This is much better done on the cape, sorry. Wanted to like it. A plus: Right around the corner is a nice park where you can sit and eat it as there is no seating. Will look for other options next time.

Not to be confused with the Lobster Stop in Quincy by the rotary which I understand to be a superior choice for lobster if that’s your thing. My thing is whole belly fried clams and these are absolutely perfect. Fresh, juicy, perfectly fried with just a hint of seasoning. If you typically order clam strips you don’t like clams, just order chicken fingers. The fish sandwich and fish and chips are also stellar. The cherry on top is the old school crinkle cut fries! This is one of the best fried clam plates in New England.

Came out to Hingham to hike World’s End and stopped here for lunch. Great little seafood place. We tried the fried clam strips and haddock sandwich. Both were delicious! Perfectly breaded and seasoned, good crunch and not too greasy. I highly recommend stopping here if you’re in the area.

Craving my first lobster roll of 2012, I swung on down to the Lobster Shack before I decided to go on a leisurely walk of Bare Cove Park with old pup, Natsie. I had good memories of my first visit of this small shack, but I guess I didn’t remember the outrageous prices. The food is good, but the prices, as my nephew Nathan would say, are«redick.» $ 12.99 for a lobster roll on a hamburger roll the size of a White Castle slider? Puh-lease. And then $ 19.99 for foil-wrapped scallops with a tiny side of average cole slaw and okay portion of well battered onion rings. Puh-lease part two! For all that I could have had a high class lunch at Mark Wahlburg’s Alma Nove up the street! Also, parking there is an Allstate-sponsored traffic accident waiting to happen. Beware trying to back out of that place. You need your full Jeff Gordon skills to zoom out of there.

There are no tables, little parking, is semi-awkwardly located, and not exactly a fancy place, but I still like Hingham Lobster Pound. The fish & chips was well-portioned and delicious. The fish was well-battered/fried and tasty. The fries were crispy on the outside, soft and creamy inside. You get a lot of food for the price. The fried clams are the same as the fish: really good. They’re big belly clams and not like the small ones you see at other places. I haven’t had a problem with service. If you don’t live nearby, eat at one of the picnic tables down the street at the beach… when the weather’s nice.
