Ocean Kai

The worst food I have ever ordered. Even my teenage boys would not eat it. Tried the pad thai along with other dishes. Tasted nothing like pad thai with tiny shrimp and chewy chicken. Everything else was deep fried. Threw everything in the garbage. Not to mention the smell of the restaurant. My mistake for ordering without knowing how bad it is. Food buyer, beware.

Feeling generous today hence the two stars. Very ‘not good’. You may go for a late drink, but I wouldn’t eat here again. Seemed clean. Service was poor. Food was hyper-​fried. I tried to order the most normal thing I could think of on a chinese menu. Crab rangoon for starter and general gau’s chicken for entrée. Both over friend and under flavored. C.R. sauce was just poured on top of around 60% of the entrée. Chicken was as dry as I’ve ever had. Awful.

I didn’t Unilocal this place recently but did vaguely remember that it wasn’t too impressive. We tried it anyway since we had something to do down this way.
ONE LITTLE BUTTER EACH: 1 STAR
One knows one is at a Quality Asian joint when they give you rolls in a basket first.
KUNG PAO: 1.5 STARS
There was so little spice in it that one could have fed it to a baby.
PORK FRIED RICE: 1.5 STARS
With the traditional spitting out of gristle into a napkin. Don’t worry, it’s not linen.
VALUE: 2 STARS
The combo platters have few options and do not allow substitutions even with an upcharge.

This is another restaurant that used to be very good many years ago. The food was just plain gross, and the staff rude! We waited 45 minutes just to pay our bill, and even then got an attitude. We were one of two parties in the dining room! We had to chase down a manager because the waitress ignored us! Will never come here again! Rumor has it that the bar here is the main attraction due to the availability of drugs! Disgusting!

This is where your grandparents and yuppies go to drink. Heavily.
It’s like the mid-​west. But friendly. The food is pretty decent.
Plays a lot of 80’s songs and people say the f word a lot at night. My kinda place!

The food is pretty bad here. Half of our party had stomach issues after eating here. Perhaps best as a place to have a late night scorpion bowl after a ladies night somewhere else!

Awful! We are new to the area so we are looking for a Chinese/​Japanese restaurant to go to. Well this certainly isn’t it. The waitress, an older lady, was extremely rude when my husband told her the chow mien didn’t taste right. We were already suffering through burnt fried rice and greasy chicken fingers, the chow mien was inedible and just unacceptable. She informed us that’s what chow mien is. They’ve been in business 34 years. I miss Quans kitchen and PF changs! Don’t waste your time or money!!!

Disgusting. Over fried, previously frozen. Yuck.

My favorite spot for this sort of food on the South Shore. Pricing is fair AND they deliver. I’ve only ordered take out or delivery; so I can’t comment on the dining in experience.

This place is fantastic. The staff is down to earth, fun to chat with, and wonderfully heavy handed when making drinks. The food is delicious (try the won ton soup or the Kai Lo Mein). If you are looking for a fancy night out, this might not be the place to go… But if you are looking for a comfortable bar in the neighborhood with good food and drinks and a fun atmosphere then definitely give it a try.

First time at Ocean Kai in Hingham as I have a summer house in Hull on Nantasket beach. I came down here for the weekend for the big snowstorm to get away for a few days and relax. I wanted to find a place where I could watch the NFL playoff games, play keno, have a GREAT scorpion bowl, and enjoy good Chinese food. I drive by the KAI as I make my way to my house and never thought about stopping to be honest but it always seemed to be crowded. Well I give this place 4 stars. The bartender was both pleasant and great, the drinks were good and the good I thought was awesome! You have to spore tatie true Chinese food though. I will definitely be back…

The food here has to be frozen. We ordered the Peking Dumplings to start and they were as dry as could be. I hope the owner reads this and tells me they are not frozen. The bartender was great and made great drinks… but the food sucks.

This is an older chinese joint. It’s not a bad place to watch sports, play keno and drink some beers with friends. The food is nothing to write home about, unless mom can go to CVS and pick up some Pepto Bismol for you.

First off, I just popped in for a little take-​out, so this isn’t an extensive review. I got chicken fingers and chicken lo mein. The lo mein noodles were not the kind I have had in other restaurants. It was a chicken soup noodle. Sauce was ok, chicken was good and bad. The chicken fingers were perfect.
The setup is strange. You come through front door to small vestibule, go left there is a reception area and maybe a dozen tables? Is there another room? Otherwise it’s small. The door on the right is labelled «cocktail lounge». The door is hollow panel. Seems cheap.
I wouldn’t go to eat, but I might see how the do on a fancy drink. I will try chow mein since the fingers were good.
I’m open to trying it one more time because it is directly on my route home.
Also this was a Tuesday night so it might be more impressive on the weekend.

OMG… how terrible! Ate there before and never very good, but edible… this time… they really screwed up! Ordered schezuan chicken to go and when got home it had peanuts in it!!! WTF? Absolutely no description that it had peanuts in it! I HATE peanuts in my food! I wouldn’t have ordered it! And no rice with entrée! WTF is that? They gave me a roll with a dipping sauce?
What kind of place are they running?
I’ll never go there again! $ 12 for a terrible meal. No thanks.

Ocean Kai food is great the bartenders are great. Good quality generous protions and overall a good time They have a good bar crowd. A real hidden Gem

We got our food so fast and hot it seemed as if they knew what we wanted even before we sat down. The place had a neighborly feel to it. Like the Chinese answer to Cheers. The owners, Jim and Luciana, are so friendly they make you feel like they’ve known you forever. A must visit on prime rib night! Their prime rib rocks! We will definitely visit this place again when we are in town!

Food was about three stars. Decent, hot, fast and good price. Pad thai was ok, mushi beef and boneless spareribs as well.
Service was a zero whereas the waitress was horrible. We had to ask for water and tea three times. Everyone we said thank you she did not respond. She was not interested or helpful in refilling soda, water or duck sauce.
We will explore other options.

Please don’t eat there. I have gotten ill each time (twice) I have been there. They would do better just as a bar with live music. My fiancé even says that the food sucks (and then he continues the phrase that refers to an appendage and an animal).

I stepped back in time and went here for a late hungover lunch on a Sunday a couple of weeks ago. We were going to get takeout but decided at the last minute to just eat there. I think I ate here once before with my uncle for my 13^th birthday. I don’t think anything in this place has changed since then — not even the oil.
Greasy egg rolls. Check.
Fried rice that I doused in that sweet sauce and mustard sauce. Check
Fatty and crispy boneless spare ribs. Check.
A strange roll that has no business being on the table a Chinese restaurant. Check.
I still have no idea why we went here and I don’t think I’ll be back for another 20+ years but in a strange sort of way I enjoyed it.
