Good food a lot of seating so you don’t have to wait long. Drinks have a lot of ice in them

Let me tell you about this little piece of Americana called Plaza Azteca. Came here on a lazy Friday night wanting some satisfying Mexican. This was the 2nd time I’ve been here and knew to expect the Cheesecake Factory sized portions and intimidating menu. Sat down and immediately ordered the Santa Fe burrito, a 10 inch torpedo of death that no man should finish on one sitting. My lady got the chicken fajitas, which could easily feed a small family. In addition to that, we both got«Bebe dos beer-Rita’s.» I ordered both and said«I really just wanted to say Bebe dos beer-ritas» and was met with the most ruthless blank stare from the waitress. Meanwhile, a very wholesome family of four was seated across from us. The husband arrived slightly late and looked exactly like a type casted stress out husband. His wife must have flipped through the menu at least 5 times with a look of «do I REALLY have to order something?» on her face. I took one look at him and said«he’s getting the Santa Fe burrito.» He did not disappoint. Once our food came, it was exactly what I expected(gigantic portions). You don’t need to know that we didn’t finish our food and barely made dent in our drinks. What you do need to know is that stressed out husband, beaten down by the week’s long grind, finished every last bit of that 10 inch Santa Fe burrito, and couldn’t looked happier doing it.

My husband and I stopped in recently after a long day of work and no desire to cook dinner. We each got a cocktail and placed an order for take out. We’d been in once before and had a good experience with a drink and takeout. About 10 minutes after ordering, a server came out with our dishes. to dine in not take out. We explained it was actually take out and not dine in and he said he’d package it up… no problem. About 15 minutes later, we asked about our takeout as we still didn’t have it. The bartender said she misunderstood and thought we said we wanted to «order together» not«order take out». Not sure what that means, but ok… After 5 more minutes, it had now been 20 minutes since the server brought out our food but we still didn’t have it packaged up. We asked the bartender to please cancel our order, since the whole situation seemed weird and confusing and we no longer wanted the food that was, I guess, just sitting out back. A manager came out and said our food would be out shortly… Now going on 30 minutes since our food came out, we said we’d prefer to cancel. The manager turned away in a huff, SLAMMED open the door from the bar to the kitchen, and did not return. The experience was awkward, unprofessional and uncomfortable. We will not be returning… Hingham has a market for a great Mexican restaurant, but unfortunately Plaza Azteca is not it.

For fake Mexican food or Americanized Mexican food this place is so so. This is the second time I’ve been disappointed by a so-called Mexican restaurant outside of the Boston area that tries to do their version of Mexican food. Well I’m no expert on Mexican culture or Décor this place seems to have used a heavy-handed in its style. I ordered their version of chimichanga, with one filled with beef and one filled with chicken. They came with not as much cheese as as I expected. The quality of the food inside is so-so.

The wife gave it a tagline: Plaza Azteca — It’s There. And that’s a decent summation, as the environs call to a business luncheon or new family outing, as easily as a Match date or a spot for post-work bebe beeritas. Yes, I imbibed. The $ 9 beverage sure showed pretty, but proved to be mostly cerveza and watery sour mix straight from the shelf of Shaw’s. Salt on the rim? Nope. Completely rinsed away by the sweat of a lengthy wait post-production, I reckon. Comped chips and salsa are above average, and $ 9 will get you tableside guac — a bit of fanfare from an industrial cart catering to your taste. No onions, extra cilantro? They can haz it. Just be sure to ask for a little pinch of salt and a few extra lime wedges; the guac is plentiful and chunky, but ours needed a bit of both. Four baja fish tacos topped with a citrus corn salsa and a side of enjoyable black beans topped off at $ 13. Deceptively filling, and with a nice fry, I’d opt for them again. She picked and prodded her Nachos Supreme($ 11), which had more iceberg than cheese, thus softening quickly. Trivia on Wednesdays, karaōke on Fridays, with food specials to match. It’s fine, and completely inoffensive, but if you’re looking for killer Mex, let the search continue elsewhere.

This place was good, went down hill, and now is great again. My hubs and I both had the Ranchera quesadilla, and thought it was great. They have nice, thick salsa too. Its back up to being good!

Very impressed. Maybe they weren’t that slammed, although parking lot was semi full, but the food came out fast. Quality of portion with relation to price was good as well. Amazingly fresh guacamole. The waitress Shawna was very accommodating. Def coming back when craving some Mexican. Hope they stay this good.

I’ve been here several times with friends and have never left disappointed. I’ve found the staff to be very helpful when it comes to modifications on menu items. Service has been great– shoutout to Daniel. Check out the guacamole and the taquitos! Viva la Azteca!

This is my go to place for guacamole. The table side guac is AMAZING!!! However, I am disappointed that I have not had any food or drinks here that have been as good. Definitely my go to for good chips and guacamole though!

Just so-so. I’ve been there a handful of times and twice have felt like the fish tacos weren’t cooked right and felt sick afterwards. The restaurant has a nice atmosphere and the sangria is good at least. Wasn’t impressed with the nachos either.

The BEST Mexican food! Great for big parties or just a date night! I went for Valentines Day weekend and we got a table right away without a reservation. I couldn’t decide on steak or chicken so I got both! I went with the«Pina Loca» which I HIGHLY recommend to anyone who loves grilled pineapple! Has a kick to it so you better like spicy but the side of white rice was a perfect match in cooling it down! Ps: if your a margarita fan I also recommend the«Beerita» it’s huge and you only need one!

My family got take out from here. Always check your order before you leave the restaurant. We tried to call the restaurant to express that our order was incorrect, and we were met with a less than pleasurable«manager». The food had very little spice and was average for mexican. The guacamole was good though.

Let me save you some time: 1. The staff here is abysmal. We went here twice — first time we sat for 10 minutes until a very bored waitress took our drink order. The food took a while to arrive, and we had finished our first round. My husband ordered a second beer, and the waitress gave us a downright eye roll. Second trip, we sat at our table for 15 minutes and no one served us. Not a one. We were given some free entertainment, as the table next to us was way overcharged and the waitress was having a very loud argument with the guests over the tab. Super. 2. The drinks are expensive and weak. I’ll pay for a fancy margarita, but I won’t shell out $ 13 for fruit juice. 3. The food is crappy and I suspect their kitchen is filthy. Everyone in my party both times got violently ill after eating here. Whenever I drive by this place, I still have flashback nightmares to the times I’ve wasted money here. Now my husband and I just head to Scarlet Oak or Legal C Bar for better food and better service. Even Taco Bell would be better. Stay away unless you want scowls, sub-par drinks, and dysentery.

I was excited to try Plaza Azteca however, that feeling quickly faded upon arrival. The restaurant is nicely furnished however, the staff seemed complacent and our waitress seemed distracted. Once our drink order was placed our food came out almost instantaneously. This was alarming and reminded me of an episode of ‘Kitchen Nightmares’. As I was eating my chicken quesadilla I liked it less and less. The quesadilla wad bland and the cheese had a strange taste. After eating, I felt like I had a brick in my stomach. Our waitress quickly took our food away and didn’t ask if we enjoyed it or offered dessert. We were quickly given our checks and were on our way. I was very disappointed and after we left i just didn’t feel good after that meal, not necessarily sick but just ‘gross’. I would avoid this place, Taco Bell serves better food.

I’ve enjoyed going here multiple times, they are always prompt and have plenty of seating. I have several allergies including GF and have not had any issue, staff is generally friendly with a few exceptions. Typically go for Enchiladas and they have been good and consistent thus far.

I wanted so badly to enjoy this experience as I’m a huge fan of Mexican food. It just fell so short of expectations… First, the place is huge so I would assume that a need for reservations is rare. The server was kind, attentive and we have absolutely nothing bad to say about her. She recommended their white sangria to me and I really enjoyed it(so much that I had a second glass). It was full of yummy fall flavors, including a hint of cinnamon. We ordered the queso fundido(fried cheese and chorizo). What we got was not what was expected. The cheese seemed to be missing, but as the cast iron skillet it was in began to cool down and what we though was just chorizo grease started congealing, we realized that the base of the fundido was some kind of processed cheese. It became thick and gelatinous and tasted kind of like Velveeta. Now, I have nothing against Velveeta. I use it to make mac’n’cheese sometimes… but a good fundido is meant to be made with Oaxaca and other Mexican cheeses… not processed cheese dip. So this was a miss for us. I saw others ordering the queso dip appetizer and I wished that we had just done that in hindsight. My husband ordered a quesadilla and I ordered the trio of veggie enchiladas(bean, potato and spinach). Very notably, my husband’s quesadilla was very shortchanged on cheese. Was there a cheese shortage? My enchiladas weren’t bad. I actually really enjoyed the potato enchilada(it’s basically filled with whipped potato). The spinach one felt like it didn’t belong… it needed to be elevated with some Mexican flavors. So by the end of the meal, we felt a little underwhelmed and decided to order dessert. They have a cheesecake menu as part of the dessert selections and we saw the Boston Cream Pie Cheesecake and I was sold. There are no descriptions of the cheesecakes, only the names of each one, so we took it at face value. What came was a legitimate cake… with thin cheesecake layers in place of frosting. I don’t eat«real» cake… outside of cheesecake or ice cream cake… so for me, this was a huge miss. I wish that our server had flagged the fact that it wasn’t a traditional cheesecake and we would have ordered something else. All in all, this was a bit of a disappointment and I’m still searching for a great spot on the South Shore for quality Mexican food.

Have been here on many occasions. I always leave more full then I’d like to be because the food is so good. Service can be inconsistent. On their biggest day of the year cinco de mayo had the worst service, but typically never that bad. I always get the empanadas, they are so darn delicious! Can’t go wrong with any drink really. I don’t love how they pour cheese on a lot of their dishes, if you are intolerant to cheese I would ask how much is included in your plate. Need a margarita and in the south shore? Stop here!

I half expected it to look like its former occupant inside(Chili’s) so I was pleasantly surprised to see that it indeed looked updated albeit sort of tired inside(the floors looked a bit dingy and the whole place was a bit dark.) A friendly hostess greeted me and I made a beeline for the ladies room as I had just come from work. The toilet handle was broken and there was cleaning product in the bowl(which I didn’t notice til after.) Overall, I thought the ladies room looked a bit neglected but wasn’t disgusting by any means. Though I passed on the table side guacamole because my fellow diner doesn’t eat it, it sounded like a pretty meticulous and involved preparation as the table next to us was getting it. The chips and salsa were solid and I liked the personal salsa — double dippers rejoice! I went with the taco salad with chicken. It was decent. The beans made it a bit wet but it was well seasoned and I was adequately full after eating most of it. Overall, a step up from its predecessor but I’m still on the hunt for an authentic Mexican restaurant that’s going to «wow» me.

Oh, are you kidding me?! No. I was afraid you’d say that. Okay, first. I give a star for the guacamole cart. Good stuff. It turned out to be the only thing I ate. And it was good. I ordered tacos. It’s simple. It’s a Mexican restaurant. If you can’t get that right, please step aside. The taco shells were burnt. Burnt. Not just browned a little too much, burnt. All I could taste was burnt and bitter corn tortilla. And do you know what they use for onions? Durkee fried onions. That’s great. I love Durkee onions. IFIT’S THANKSGIVING!!! Stop it! Put that Durkee canister down, and have your guys do some prep work in the kitchen, come ON! To their credit, the server was nice. The manager came to the table to apologize after I sent my plate back, as he agreed, the shells ruined the meal. I didn’t want anything else. He was willing to comp me a meal, but I was really hoping for good Mexican food, and I knew it wasn’t going to happen. Seriously, credit to the staff. My boyfriend had a seafood dish. Well, okay. That’s safe. It wasn’t very Mexican, but it’s safe. You have to have something on the menu that this region is familiar with. It was okay, but the specialty isn’t seafood. It’s supposed to be Mexican food. There are no good, really authentic Mexican restaurants in this region. Nope. Don’t talk to me about El Sarape. Been there. It’s good food, but not real good authentic Mexican food. They too have morphed their menu to cater to the tastes of the Boston region. Sorry, there’s no maple tress in Mexico producing maple syrup. I want Mexican food. Not going back.
