This is a wonderful store that delivers impeccable service. They have an extensive collection of china, flatware and crystal at competitive prices. The bridal registry is great and Peggy does an outstanding job assisting with selection, ideas etc. in a very friendly way. Store has a lot of excellent gift items also. Very friendly staff. Can’t imagine why anyone would use a big department store.

Char Crews is a fabulous china, silver and flatware shop that prides itself on delivering exquisite goods at fair prices.
I always wondered where the name came from so the last time I was in there I asked. «It’s simple», said the sales person. «The woman that started the shop is named Charlotte Crews who opened the shop over 25 years ago».
Smart woman, for this store is the go to place for bridal gifts, hostess gifts, home accessories, china, silverware and more. Their sales people are knowledgeable and willing to go out of their way to help.
The last time I was there– I was looking for charger plates to put under my place settings for a formal dinner I was hosting. Of course the idea to do this came to me only hours before my company was due to arrive. Char Crews saved the day by finding me all 12 charger plates (some on the floor and some in the back storage) In fact, the store had closed, and they stayed after hours while they continued their hunt for these plates. Who does that anymore?
Finally, success. Not only did I walk out with my 12 chargers. I also had found a china tea pot that matched my good china (which was now discontinued) several serving bowls and I now have them on a standby search for my everyday flatware to find some pieces that have disappeared over the years.
There is a second store up in Wilmette as well. And both stores provide complimentary gift wrapping which has saved me countless times when I am in need of a hostess gift!
I know in this crazy, fast paced world that it is often easier to go to one of the big stores when looking for china or crystal. But if you want incomparable service, and prices that don’t leave you feeling like you’ve been gouged, stop in to Char Crews. You might be surprised at how affordable this store in Hinsdale actually is.
