SAVEDMYLIFE! Okay, that is an exaggeration but it did quiet my suffering. I was in one of the newer stores in the mall and because of the new products and particles floating about, I began to suffer due to my allergies. I decided to take a walk and ended up in Belk. Finally I could breath; it is apparent that Belk is an established store in this mall. It appears a bit dated by is still a nice shopping option. I really appreciate the thought that Belk puts into the clothing they offer for larger women. They had shirts with full sleeves, not just sleeveless or those ridiculous looking cap sleeves. Some larger women do not like having their big arms exposed and they like to have more styling options. If you are that woman, you will appreciate having the option of purchasing a colorful maxi with a matching shrug as they also had these sets available. Colorful clothing options for men, women and children,(separate store also in mall), as well as home décor options and shoes; surely you can find something you like.

First time for me shopping this location. I was more just seeing if they had any good sales on men’s clothing. Lucky they had some 50% off golf shirts with the moisture wicking. These are great shirts and normally over $ 65. Regular price was $ 55. Add 50% off. Then at checkout the woman located another $ 10 off coupon and another 15% off the total. Not a bad walk thru visit. Couple of shirts for less than what one normally cost. Workers were helpful finding right size as well.

On 26 Dec 11, I attempted to return a one-cup coffee maker at Belk. I would not normally do this the day after Christmas, but there are no Belks anywhere near where we live, so it was the 26th while we were in town, or nothing. I was chagrined to realize the receipt was missing when I arrived at the store(no one wants to be that guy), but when the large sign in front of the customer service desk said«Misplaced your receipt? Ask about our receipt lookup!» I thought there was hope. I told the clerk I had misplaced the gift receipt, but wondered if they could use the receipt lookup mentioned in the sign. She said she had no idea what I was talking about, so I read the sign to her. At that point, she said if I had the credit card used to purchase the item, they could look it up that way. Being an intrepid investigator, I made a few phone calls, got the number, and returned to the clerk. The clerk then said I needed to have the card itself, and not the number, for her to look up the purchase. I asked what the difference was between swiping the card and manually punching in the numbers, and the main objections were a) I could be trying to return something I’d stolen, and b) she had been specifically told that she could only have the card itself. I asked how it could be stolen if I was having the money returned TOTHECREDITCARDORIGINALLYUSEDTOPURCHASETHEITEM, and that one did seem to stump her. She then refused because she could not read the handwritten numbers I provided her. I told her I would be happy to read the numbers to her as she punched them into the register. There was still the problem of the boss who had told her she needed the card. I suggested she might call her manager to verify that, and she did, and of course the manager said it would be no problem to credit the card as I requested. So after a half hour of argument, we successfully used Belk’s receipt lookup, got the card credited for the full purchase price, and returned the item. Or so I thought. As I turned to leave the counter, the clerk told me to take the returned item with me to the correct section of the store and stock it on the shelf with the other coffee makers. That’s right — I’d been hired as a stockboy! Rather than argue further, I took the coffee maker with me. Though I was quite tempted to walk on out the door with it and sell it online, I simply tossed it into a vacant aisle as I left. Since there are no Belk stores where I live, this is the first time I’ve been in a Belk store in ten years. I definitely have an opinion about them now.
