Love this place! The owners are so nice and the food is AMAZING! I recommend J Gumbo’s on Hixson Pike to everyone! Try the brownie for dessert also… soooooo good!

This Louisiana Creole/Bubba Gump style restaurant is a much needed restaurant in the Chattanooga area. The food is very tasty. Not Genuine Creole, but very close. I would definitely recommend it to anyone looking for a quick and spicy meal. Pros: Customer Service is excellent. The restaurant is clean. The food is almost spot on. Cons: Small dining area. (I prefer Bubba Gump’s for the atmosphere and larger dining) Pricey

Stopped in late they were closing up. I was just about to pull back out when, I was being flagged to come on in. The colorful atmosphere, smell of good spices clean aroma’s busting from everywhere all the way to the counter to order. The greeting from the owners just inviting, pleasant, so helpful. Even let us sample the heat intensity of the menu. Can not tell you how pleasantly pleasing the whole experience was. Only that if you don’t try it you are missing out. Great place for a family night out, date or quick belly rubber. Just YUMMY is all I can say. Sincerely Tessakay

Really like going here for a good, spicy lunch! I have been missing having Cajun reasonably close, and this was just an answer to my prayers! Good prices too for the amount of food too!

Popped in to try the etouffe. Pretty good. I“m going to try it for a couple of other things and give an update. Very friendly, quick service. And no, «rap music» wasn’t being played. I’m from down near there and can attest to what I heard, which was ALL1940’s-1960’s New Orleans: Frankie Ford, Art Neville, Ray Price, and Professor Longhair.

I finally had a chance to try this place for lunch. I’m a big NOLA fan and love Cajun food. I had the Drunken Chicken and the wife had the gumbo. Both portions were extremely generous. My dish has the right amount of spice though the chicken was a bit stringy. Very good though. The gumbo also had right amount of kick. I would like to have seen more protein in the dish. Overall, great food and a great value($ 7.50 a dish).

Simple little place, nothing fancy, but very clean. Plenty of space. They offer samples of the food so you can be assured that you will like what you get. So, if you don’t like the food, it’s on you. I had the Jean Lafitte(Voodoo chicken and Bumble Bee stew combo) My girlfriend and her daughter split a bowl of the gumbo. I liked everything that I tried and everything had plenty of spice without being too overpowering or too spicy in the way of heat either. It was served with a large bed of white rice and a nice sized slice of great tasting garlic buttered French bread. Overall good experience.

The Crawfish Étouffée was great and the owners were extremely nice. Well worth the hour drive.

Decent food. The ordering and wait is a bit wonky(a bit disorganized). Parking is somewhat lacking but not horrible. I had the Crawfish Étouffée and my daughter had the bourbon chicken. The Étouffée was a bit lacking in Crawfish meat but otherwise good and the portion size was adequate. The bourbon chicken was tasty. Overall, it was ok and I’d go back.

Pretty good! I went with red beans and rice, my gf had the voodoo chicken. I’ve had gumbo and red beans down in New Orleans and I was pleasantly surprised by this place and their food. It’s worth trying whether you’re a local Chattanoogan or just visiting! Bonus points for their health inspection card being on display with a solid 100

Our experience here wasn’t as good as I wanted it to be. The rice was cooked to gruel and made for a weird texture. The flavors were ok, but when something says hot or spicy we tend to have a different perception than others must have because this didn’t taste like either to us.

Oh my stars!!! Awesome place! Food as AH-MAZING! Had the red beans and rice and the burbin street chicken. The flavors go well together. And that bread! Good lawd! They defiantly go something good going on. Atmosphere was awesome. Service and hospitality were beyond amazing. I’ve seen a few reviews that are a bit confusing. Here’s what you need to know 1) parking isn’t an issue and not confusing at all. 2) rap music? No. They have New Orleans style music playing 3) rude? Not sure where you ate, but the whole staff was very friendly and polite. 4) gumbo DOESNOT have shrimp! It’s even in the description of the dish. If you are confused with what’s on the wall, they have a take out menu that better explains what’s in the dish 5) the voodoo chicken will set your mouth on fire, but it’s good! You seriously gotta check this place out! Great food. Hearty portions! And best of all, it won’t break the bank!

Have been wanting to try this place since we saw the paint going on the outside walls. The place is clean, staff and owners friendly and the food excellent. Our order of Bourbon Chicken tasted fresh, sweet and just a touch of creole. The Drunken chicken po’boy was flavorful and the enjoyable sweet heat that lingers reminds you how good that bite was a good long while. We will be back, and soon

I really wanted to like this place because it’s close to my house and also something different. When we got there we saw orders going out like crazy so we thought it would be fast. We ordered and ended up waiting 25 minutes. My husband wanted to go ask and I said just be patient they must be having to make something. When we did ask, the girl got smart with us saying she called our number twice then threw our food out and then another girl came over and said they were out of what I had ordered?!? So which one? We were definitely paying attention for our number which was never called. When we did eventually get our food it was very tasty. On a side note, I would definitely not take my kids here. They play loud rap music with a lot of curse words. Without the mishap and the music I would have given 3 stars. Hopefully they’ll improve and I can do another review.

The food taste is excellent. Really neat they give out samples to taste the different entrée. I would strongly recommend this to see if you can handle the spicy taste of each dish. Not all dishes are spicy and they have several vegetarian options. It would be nice if the staff offered suggestion or explanation about each of the dishes. I wish they would ask you, being a new place it would be a nice touch. I got the red beans and rice, which had a lot of rice, it was tasty. One big complaint was only one slice of sausage. Typically in a restaurant that serves red beans and rice you get a small sausage link, but this was in no way a link, but a thin slice of sausage. I would expected a few more pieces, 3 or 4 would have been great, but 1 is just not enough at that price. Also the bowl was filed with alot of rice, a creamy(from their description) red beans and rice would of had more of a sauce. This would of made eating a half bowl of white rice more enjoy, which I just through away because I wasn’t in the mood for a bowl of white rice. My wife got the bourbon street chicken which was tasty and had enough shredded chicken to eat throughout the entire meal, but again very little sauce and she throughout a half bowl of white rice. Also no where on the menu it told you about the kids bowl or that it was even a option or how much. The one i saw on someone else table, seemed like That would be enough food for a meal. They are a new place and I will go back, because the food was really good, the staff friendly, and alot of potential. Not sure if I will be a regular at this point, unless I’m in the mood for white rice.

Being from Louisiana I have certain expectations when a place claims to be Cajun and offers Cajun food. However I also have certain understandings when a place is a quick service chain restaurant. The staff was friendly. And the service was quick. I would suggest they verbalize that they can give samples since they are new and it’s a new kind of food for this area. That being said the food is good. For me Cajun food is treating the spices and the food, not just the spices. I sampled a couple of their dishes to say that the spicier ones was pretty much overpowered with spice. This could also be due to the samples not having the rice with it to cut the spices. I opted for the Bourbon St chicken. It was sweet and mild. It also allowed the other flavors to come through. Now the bowls are huge.(Next time I would ask for the child size.) However it wad mostly rice, which isn’t necessarily a problem but there wasn’t enough liquid from the sauce to really enjoy the entire bowl. My hubby got the red beans. He only had one slice of sausage in it.(But that could’ve been from the luck of the scoop) I didn’t care for it as it had a vinegar — y taste to it. Not what I’m used to from back home. I would sat $ 7/$ 8 for the adult bowl is a bit overpriced considering how much filler(rice) there is. But if I got the child’s bowl it would be more worth it to me. I will go back again. But it may be awhile to let them work out some of their kinks.

This is our new Cajun joint in the neighborhood. The food is excellent but the service is lacking. Their systems for processing orders is chaotic and lacks order. I hope this is just their adapting to their grand opening. Time will tell.

This new Hixson cajun joint may be small in size but not in flavor! The menu is divided between appetizers(all $ 7.50 at the time of store opening) Po Boys($ 7.50/ea), and Entrees(also all $ 7.50 at the time of store opening). There is an option to mix any two entrees in a bowl for $ 1 extra or three for $ 2 extra. The kids menu is the adult menu served at a smaller size along with a piece of French bread and a drink for a great $ 4 price. The food has a little cajun heat and the store had some additional sauces at the table for you to play with. The service was quick, attentive, and friendly(food is delivered to your table but you get your own drinks, etc…). Definitely worth visiting more than once to try all of the delicious bowls!
