Drove from Chicago to pick strawberries as I am on their mailing list. The emails said what great strawberries this year. Well, the berries were extremely small, not sweet, and very picked over. Didn’t buy any. Not worth the trip except for Marilyn’s Bakery. Delicious pies but they are at many farmers markets in the Chicago area.

Went to their June strawberry festival and indeed not sure why they would call it a «festival». Like one reviewer commented, all that was offered was the store, bakery, or picking in the fields. We decided to pick berries which seemed to have been either dramatically picked over or just a poor crop. However, what I found most upsetting was that the cashier asked us to pop open the tailgate of our vehicle to make sure we weren’t hiding any buckets of berries even though we announced we only picked two buckets which were clearly visible in the front seat. This distrust was unacceptable.

So, I saw this place last year when we were en route to County Line Orchard but did not have enough time to stop. I promised myself and my kids that we we stop this year on our trip out for apple and pumpkin picking and it was well worth it! From the street it look like little more than a road side stand BUT once you walk in you are greeted with very friendly people and so great produce. We stopped because we wanted to do some berry picking and we were not disappointed! My kids and I had never picked berries before and there was a woman out in the berry bushes to explain to us how and what berries should be picked and the differences between the 3 different types of raspberries that they grow. It was a little windy and a little muddy but the experience was so fun and my kids had a blast. I could not wait to get home and try the berries and was not at all disappointed. There is something to be said about really fresh just picked berries! We cannot wait to go back next year!

I was a little bummed that we came a day too early to pick blueberries but there were some to buy anyway. I did scream a little when I saw they carry the Mexican Ice Cream bars… I have been known to chase down a Paleta man or 2. They did have a nice selection of some very nice looking produce and I bought some. Some of the items were overpriced but they were picked from this farm so I thought it was fair.

We went for their Strawberry festival in early June. We were really disappointed. Our main two complaints were, they have practically one bathroom for all the patrons to share. So when a big event occurs a continuous 30 minute lines form(try that with a 3 year old). Secondly to purchase pies and pastries you go through the attached bakery… again huge long lines. Finally, there really wasn’t anything to do except purchase items in their gift shop or go walk out to the fields. There are other quality«festivals» to go in the area that offer more than what Johnson Strawberry provided and value your time more.

I love Johnsons. They are such a great little market place with tons of variety plus they have an adorable and delicious bakery that is open most of the year. You can spend hours wondering through the green houses and they offer pick your owns with a lot of the berries and pumpkins too I think.

I love Johnson’s. Love it love it love it. And by the way, it shouldn’t be called Strawberry. They sell all sorts of plants, garden equipment, and lots and lots of fruit and vegetables that they grow. Although I live in Chicago, my mom is in Hobart. Every time I go to Hobart, we visit Johnson’s. They are only open during the growing season, and close during the depths of winter. Highly recommended!

Johnson’s Rocks! This place has the freshest produce around. Did you know that they pick their sweet corn 4 times per day? So good! They give away free steamed sweet corn most Saturdays, have one of the only u-pick strawberry patches around and has the best garden center in the world! It is beautiful!!! Love it, Love it!!!

Yes, definitely my favorite place for flowers and plants, what a selection!!! Everything looks amazing when you get here, they have awesome displays… I just want everything. Of course you can’t come here and not pick strawberries. how cool. I love it! The fruits and veggies are usually fab but I come here for the annuals.
