Was it heavenly coffee? No. Was it better than DD? Yes! I can only speak for three things on their menu, the hazelnut coffee, their walnut bread, and egg sandwich — all three were good. If you come in the morning, the coffee is fresh since there are a few office buildings in the area, I am sure they have to replenish. The four or so times I have come here during my six year academic career will vouch for the fact that it was not THAT memorable. But the place is clean, and I enjoyed my large black hazelnut coffee. You can tell a lot about a cup of coffee without all the sugar and milk covering up the taste — it was still very hot every time, and made so that it is not too watery but not bitter either. I know they also make breakfast sandwiches, those are made fresh while you wait. Unlike Dunkin(where they are pre-packaged and filled with preservatives) the sandwich I had here had real egg. If you cannot make your way to Empire, and do not want to dish out for Starbucks, get your coffee here.

Lately this place is really starting to disappoint me. Every time you walk in there is a new face and less items on the shelf. I am not a coffee drinker, so the fact that there isn’t much of a juice option when I buy my bagel is sad. I buy the smoothie and ughghg it tastes worse when someone new handles the machine. I basically threw my money out the door this morning. Then, when I sat down at my desk to enjoy my bagel the clerk smeared the cream cheese like it was butter on one side of the bagel. Who does that? I am still trying to recover by what could have a simple breakfast gone bad. I use to buy the donuts but they are so hard and at times stale that I moved on to the muffins. Oh Gosh too dry for my liking. The way things are going I hope it gets better for management, the owner can’t do everthing on his own and that’s what it looks like when you walk in. Poor guy. Hope you have better luck than I did, not worth the effort for me anymore.

The people there are very nice and it is a friendly place where you can get good stuff to take out or just sit with a nice view. It is clean and the service is excellent, and it is a fine café for the family or a businessperson or a hipster.(They play alt music!) I don’t drink coffee, but unlike Starbucks, they will put real lemons in your iced tea and you can get the Chock classic of cream cheese on date nut bread that everyone over a certain age in NYC will remember.

I enjoy the selection of drinks and food here, which always has me getting more than I expected when I entered. I like the particularly like the special flavors of coffee they offer. I’ve enjoyed the service I’ve experienced here.

Bitching Strong Coffee. I like me a strong cup a’ joe, but crap! I was shaking and twitching half way through my iced coffee with skim and sweet and low. I have to deduct a star for not being able to finish my morning java. The guy that helped us was nice enough, but his female coworker was a whining nightmare. Cursing, and yelling, and bitching at another coworker that showed up late… while said coworker snickered and didn’t really give a crap as to what she was pissed about. Couldn’t finish my too strong coffee –1 star Listening to the whiner curse and scream –1 star Length of time to prepare the coffee –1 star Watching coworker laugh at the woman and egg her on +1 star
