wow! the was food was so good there. I really enjoyed it

I LOVED this place when it first opened — and told EVERYONE that I could find about it. Since then it has switched ownership(maybe a few times) and the service/quality have gone downhill. The hummus and tabouleah are my favorite, although the hummus no longer tastes quite the same as when it first opened. If you want to eat here — please go to the actual location. Delivery takes forever and is spotty at best. We recently made an order and after 2 hours and multiple unanswered calls to the restaurant had to drive to their location on Washington to find the store closed half an hour early and the«cashier» staring at(and ignoring) the phone as we called them. We did eventually get our food — 2.5 hours after we ordered it, and good luck on your order being correct. When ordering from home they regularly will«run out» of items or «forget» parts of your order(ex: sodas, salads, pitas, etc). I hope they get some good people again soon — I would love to see this place back to it’s former glory. It used to be the best hummus in town!

Hummus — so simple, yet oh so complex as well. On the multiple times I have frequented this place, it has lived up to its name. Variety, fresh food, and great flavor coupled with an incredibly serene atmosphere come together when you visit Hummus Bar. I love their falafel, which is both full of flavor and always cooked such that it is not overly dense or greasy. I also like that they offer a variety of salads that you can add into your pita, all of which are fresh and delicious. Personally, I have not sampled their delivery services via telephone or internet. I prefer to walk in, and sit in their calming interior, I find their décor incredibly relaxing which certainly adds to the experience. I realize there are many places that offer falafel in Hoboken, and I have been to Mamoun’s, I still prefer Hummus Bar.

HEY. It really is unfortunate, the turn that Hummus Bar has taken. We keep trying to like you, but you keep messing it up. You got good again after my last review, then very bad, very quickly. Very rarely do I review as I consume the food of which has been given to me from the very establishment I am writing about, but alas, we do live in rare times. Completely agree with Courtney — Hummus Bar has gone through some slight inconsistencies with their food, but it really comes down to the customer service. Cue: tonight. After a long day of work and some Insanity to boot, the last thing I wanted to do was make nonsense out of dinner. Fail. No longer on Seamless(minus one), I ordered through their new antiquated website ordering system(minus two). Promised a delivery time of 30 minutes, I sat down in front of a movie and did some computer related activities. 75 minutes later, I realized no food was to be found. I called. And called. And called. And called. No answer.(minus three) They are open until 11, it is 9:15. Hmm. More calls. I get pissed. Dawn jeans. Get in my car. Drive to Hummus Bar. It is 9:30. The door is locked.(minus four and five) I call. I stand in front of the window and call. I watch the phone. I can hear it ringing. No answer. They are walking by it, actively ignoring the noise.(minus six) I knock. No response. I pound the glass. I get the finger throat motion with a mouthing of «we’re closed».(minus seven) I mouth the words«I ordered online» and made very obvious typing motions, she opens the door. She says we are closed, I say the internet and your door beg to differ, but that is neither here nor there. I told her I tried to call, she says the phones are being«wonky and broken».(minus eight and nine) She says the delivery guy is out, I say thats nice but I ordered 90 minutes ago. She says let me call him. She does. Using the«wonky, broken» phone.(Minus ten-thirteen for pure stupidity). He does not answer. My phone rings. Cue: my building’s door service. Oh wow, someone is there with food. Figures. I leave. I remind her that it is 9:45 and they should be a long way from closed. I drive back, frustrated. I find a cold tasty light plate, cold falafel balls, and lumpy humus. Still tasty, but not as good as usual.(minus fourteen). Sorry Hummus Bar, but you have some major customer service and consistency issues to address. Until then… I may go in if its convenient, but online ordering is out of the question. Ending up at minus fourteen after one review is never good for business.

Decided to order from Hummus Bar via seamlessweb as I was at work late following a community service event. Ordered the following: — Falafel Balls — Lamb Tikka Bowl w/Rice w/Pesto Hummus & Whole Wheat Pita — Chicken Tikka Bowl w/Jalapeño Hummus & Whole Wheat Pita Delivery took about 40 minutes and the food arrived lukewarm. Sounds like everyone has this problem. The Falafel Balls were ‘well done’ and very close to being burnt. Had to use all of the sauce to eat them. The Lamb Tikka Bowl was awesome but there was not enough of sauce for the rice. Some extra cooked marinade would have made this much better I think. The whole wheat pitas are nice and thick and this is great for sopping up the hummus. Ate the Chicken Tikka Bowl a few days later for breakfast after nuking it. Worked quite well and the warm hummus was not bad. Ate everything and wanted more, however, I was quite filled. Quite surprised at how filling these meals were as it doesnt look like much when you look at it. A bit pricey at about 10 $ per order if you factor in tax, tip, delivery, etc. Think I would prefer Chipotle for the value proposition, however, if looking for hummus I would order from here again. Hopefully next time they deliver a bit faster with warmer food.

As far as the food goes, Hummus bar is probably my favorite take-out, delivery on a lazy Sunday go-to. It makes me feel like a bit less of a fatty than if I ordered a pizza or cheesesteak, but still, everything I’ve had is delicious. From the hummus bowls, to the pitas(Tasty Lite and Chicken Tikka are my favorites), to the salad bowl, I’ve always enjoyed every bite. They offer healthier options, such as a wheat pita instead of a white one as well. I should mention, though, the wheat pita, as I would expect is definitely thinner and more crumbly than the nice plush white ones. However, their customer service is the absolute pits. I have(on more than one occasion), called to place a delivery order, been put on hold, and then been hung up on. Only to call back and have nobody answer the phone. One time I called, someone without even saying«hello,» hollered something about«20 minutes» and hung up on me. I called back, busy signal. Called back again, busy signal. Called back again(I WASSTARVINGANDCRANKYANDCRAVINGHUMMUS), and again, was put on hold and hung up on, before I went online to and placed my order over the internet. Even if you do get lucky and have someone actually pick up the phone and take your order, it NEVER gets there anywhere CLOSE to the time they quote. Don’t order from here if you are in any sort of a rush. Give them a good hour from time of phone call before it will arrive at your door. Last night after manis with my friend Melissa, we stopped in to grab some food before we watched the finale of Bachelor Pad. There were two other people sitting at tables when we walked in, but besides that, the place was empty. We each placed an simple order(I got a salad bowl w/chicken Tikka, Melissa got a rice bowl with Chicken Tikka), and we literally stood there and waited 25 minutes for our food. If I had known this was not going to be a quick takeout order, we would have gone ANYWHERE else. I don’t think I’ve experienced such horrible service anywhere else. 4 stars for food, as far as customer service and efficiency, 0 stars. It’s a shame, but 2 stars is my final answer. Please get some good business people in here, because it has potential to be great.

I’ve been frequenting Hummus Bar for over a year — however, after a three month break I revisited them and was disappointed with the service on Sunday night and will not be going back. First, I had to wait 5 minutes while the server inputed orders from Seamless after being promised a short wait. Secondly, they changed the menu, no more Senya Turkey Pita and raised the prices on average by $ 1. They didn’t have full hummus selection at the time, the hostess tried to persuade me to get Pesto Hummus after they didn’t have Red Pepper Hummus. After I tried to place my order after agreeing to Pesto Hummus, I asked for tap water as I was thirsty. The server told me that they didn’t want to give out tap water as they only wanted to sell bottled water. Incredulous, I canceled my order, and the server tried to give me a hard time, asking if I was canceling because they wouldn’t give me tap water. I told him I was canceling because they didn’t have the menu choices but I should have added it was of the poor attitude and penny-pinching service. Needless to say, I will not be going back as this is not New York and I didn’t expect a New York attitude in an area with plenty of other hummus options.

I have to say I initially had a not-so-great first experience ordering from Hummus Bar via Delivery .com. I had never tried them before and was psyched because of the unique twists on Mediterranean they offered. I was starving and couldn’t wait. TWOHOURSLATER, after a phone call an hour beforehand asking where my food was and being told it was minutes away, still no food. I called and spoke to a gentleman named Prince. The man lives up to his name. I cancelled my order because by then I was no longer hungry, and he was more than kind and unlike many Hoboken purveyors in similar situations, he apologized profusely and asked me to please go through Delivery .com to have my bill reimbursed. I got an email from the Delivery .com agent informing me that Prince would compensate for the lateness with a super discount, which I took the next night. The food was early, and delicious. Thank you for the great customer service. It’s a rarity these days.

Loved this place the first time I went. Liked this place the second time I went. Felt betrayed the third time I went. Not sure if they were sold, forgot how to cook, or just forced to cut corners to make rent, but I won’t be heading back anytime soon.

eh, I was super pumped up to try this place as I love Hummus. Maybe my expections exceeded reality. Basically some of the worst hummus I have ever had. It has too much something in it. It was just thick and off color. Def not made anytime recently. For a place called Hummus Bar I would really think they would take more pride in their hummus instead of trying to cut cost and filling it with some kind of filler. Lamb platter was not good. Processed lamb shavings. I would return if Ihear they changed their Hummus style.

Really cool modern set up. The tables have chick peas under the glass, how can you hate that? They have seating at the window and communally at tables. The people who work there are friendly too, and they enoucrage you to review them on Unilocal and Facebook. Always nice when a place embraces and encourages social media(and acknowledges its existence!) Unlike a few of the other falafel places, they have meat and vegetarian dishes. I tried a veg one, though. I do like tofu a lot. The Thai hummus bowl… with tofu and falafel and tons of delicious hummus. I think it’s meant to come with pita bread, mine didn’t…but you don’t really need it. The tofu is quite spicy and the cold hummus is a nice contrast. There are cooked onions and peanuts(?) in there too I believe. A bit pricey, but worth it. So delicious. I will absolutely return.

I think its a solid OKAY. It’s very healthy and fresh for sure but I missed the middle eastern flair that goes with falafel. The mezze options(or appetizers/sides) that come with osme of the platters were delicious. But I was so disappointed with the humus, especially when the name of the place is HUMMUS Bar. I think the idea is clever and a quick in-n-out method and choice of various sides, but I left uninterested. I needed more salt to make my hummus good and the falafel could have had a bit more flavoring(salt) in it… I did like the pita bread quality(not the weak thin breads but was a thick option). The tahini sauce was VERY thick and was a hummus tahini sauce that didn’t work for me.

Very tough choice for me and my Spouse to Select One Middle eastern place for food in Boken… This place has nice ambience, modern décor and the food is very fresh with smiling staff at your service. Tried Bombay Thai and it was great Thai touch to traditional hummus and falafel. Surely recommended.

In a neighborhood with at least three other restaurants that serve falafel(Ibby’s, Mamoun’s, and Maoz), Hummus Bar can definitely hold its own against the competition. My boyfriend and I ran in here for a quick dinner before attending at show at the Monroe Center for the Arts(I think a few other people had the same idea). We ordered two falafel sandwiches(mine topped with hummus and eggplant salad) and a side of sweet potato fries. For $ 4.95, the falafel sandwich is an excellent value. You will be full after eating it! We couldn’t even get through the hot and fresh sweet potato fries because we were so fixated on a sandwiches. How does it compare to the competition? The falafel is a little«smooshier» compared to the falafel at some of the other restaurants, but the pita is much better, at least in my opinion. While pita can sometimes be dry, the pita at HB is soft and fluffy. However, a few hours after eating, I was VERY thirsty — could it be that the falafel is too salty? On another occasion, I also had the opportunity to try the hummus by itself. I found it to be very fresh, and I compare it to the hummus served at Gypsy Grill in Downtown Jersey City. One thing that I’d like to point out about this place — and maybe why they don’t get five stars — is that some of the sentences painted on the walls have grammatical errors. The grammar nut in me wanted to stab my eyes with the forks hanging from the quirky light fixtures.

My boyfriend, best friend, and I recently tried out The Hummus Bar. My best friend said he hasn’t been here in a months. The décor of Hummus Bar was very interesting, modern, and bright. Their tables were quite interesting as well because there’s chickpeas inside and rice. The ceiling lights were quite interesting as well. My boyfriend and I got the San Diego Hummus Bowl. The San Diego Hummus Bowl consisted of: hummus topped with tender boneless cornish hen sliced and grilled. It was quite yummy! I never had a top-notch hummus bowl or falafels. The falafels are $ 1.95 for four, so not a bad deal. The falafels were delicious and taste way better than the ones I’ve had before. We got pitas with our hummus bowl to fill the pita inside. I was so full after my first pita. I couldn’t eat anymore. The San Diego Hummus Bowl cost $ 9.95. My best friend got the Texas Style Hummus Bowl and consisted of hummus topped with grilled rib-eye steak, grilled vegetables, and spices. I tried a bit of the grilled rib-eye steak and it was quite scrumptious and had a different texture compared to the chicken meat we had. Overall, not a bad restaurant or food place to come. However, keep in mind that the hummus is really going to fill you up! Great place to come for a quick lunch or dinner.

This place is dogsh*t. The falafel and chicken pitas were just a mess. No taste, the pita is this like doughy soft thing that just crumbles. I took physics in college, and I feel this may have contradicted some of those the theories we learned. I was going to order hummus, but $ 10 for hummus strikes me as, I don’t know, slightly too much. I am fat, so even if I don’t love food, I will finish it. Hummus bar, not so much. Garbage. With the good middle eastern joints poppin up in hoboken all over, this is one I’d avoid.

The design of the restaurant and outdoor seating area was a little cold for me(all metal, not really inviting), but the staff was extremely friendly and the falafel is great. I’m glad they have so many vegetarian/vegan platters offering different veggies as topping, as many places will just offer one veggie platter and then dump meat on the rest. Normally, falafel sandwiches are drenched in hummus, tahini sauce, and veggies, which is what makes the sandwich so good, but the Hummus Bar falafel is actually really good on it’s own. It’s crispy, flavorful, and just plain delicious. It’s open late and makes a great quick, cheap snack.

I had such high hopes for this place! Loving the Hummus Place in NYC, I thought it might be similar and I could get it more often. WRONG! I got the Seni’ya hummus. It tasted like something I made in my own kitchen — mixing random spices and ingredients together that taste awful. There actually isn’t that much hummus in a platter — it’s the filling in a big bowl with some hummus around it. And, their hummus isn’t even that good. My husband said his tasted like peanut butter. With all the bad, the bright side was the falafel — which was actually really good(though it came on top of my hummus — weird). We ate outdoors and an employee asked how we liked everything — we were honest and said not that much. She was very accommodating and offered to get us something else, but we passed. Bottom line — this is no Hummus Place.

I tried this place the other night with my girlfriend as we were heading out of town and I have to say that I was happy we did! Right when we walked in we were offered a free falafel each! They were warm and right out of the fryer. It was tasty! I ordered the Mediterranean hummus platter and it was great! The platters are served in a bowl that is lined with hummus; the fillings are placed in the center and it’s accompanied by a pita and some pickles & olives. The pita itself was warmed and very fluffy; not flat and stale like I’ve seen at other places. We didn’t have to wait at all for the food since it was pre-cooked. It was very good. I eggplant was tender and not too oily. The hummus is very creamy and flavorful. I only hesitate to give 5 stars because they are a new place and I can’t judge them on consistency. I will definitely be trying them again and this time I’ll most likely get delivery.

Something is up with the reviews for this place…5 stars or 1 star? And lots of the reviewers are panning other neighborhood competition? Seems a little fishy to me. ANY-way… * You’re going to pay $ 9(minimum) for a hummus dish here. * You’re going to get enough hummus to serve 2 to 3 people. * You’re going to get just one pita(and it will be very thick and doughy). * You’re going to get quick delivery. * You’re going to need lots of water to wash it down because it’s pasty. * You’re going to fear what you might feel like later when this stuff is still sitting in your belly. Don’t get me wrong… Great concept? Yep, sure is. I lived near Hummus Kitchen in Manhattan for a bit and loved, loved, LOVED it. Unfortunately, this place just pales in comparison. Don’t waste your money.
