Yes, I know it’s closed and kicking myself for not reviewing sooner. Hoboken needs to mourn this spot. It was fun with great music, a pool table and a cadre of awesome bartenders. I don’t go out to many bars anymore in Hoboken but this was one place I would frequent if I lived in town. I am hoping Northern Soul will resurrect in another spot(hopefully also off the beaten path far from Washington). Sadness.

As a resident of hoboken, this is the only bar to go to ever. Go here. Do it. Great service and bartenders are this shit

It’s a great place If you are looking to avoid bros and broettes in Broboken. I love their drinks and live music! I wish there were more bars like Northern Soul around this area.

Literally the best bar in Hoboken! Awesome beer selection! Friendly bartenders with accents! Amazing music. Not just Jersey trash music. Real mixing! BTW I love Jersey trash too!

A bar I could actually have a regular conversation with someone! Nice atmosphere especially with the dim lights. Wasn’t packed which is perfect since Hoboken on weekends can get a bit overwhelming. Did I mention you can bring your dog around?

By far the best bar in Hoboken and the pizza is absolutely phenomenal. Could be the best kept secret in Hoboken, make sure you ask for Deedle’s personal bar pies with extra garlic — you won’t regret it!

This bar rocks. It’s truly a refreshing place from the sports-bar studded town without being pretentious. You really can’t beat their Industry Night on Sundays — friendly staff and great DJs. Best bloody’s in town too.

Had a surprise party for my girlfriend here last Friday– could not have went any better! Donal, one of the bartenders, took great care of us and was was a lifesaver in helping me plan the event(especially considering we had it on a Friday night late in December). Not only that, but he was super friendly and was always checking up on the party to make sure we were all satisfied. Excellent beer list and the DJ was phenomenal with song selection. My GF’s friends and family were there(including her parents and grandparents) and nobody felt uncomfortable at any time. This was only me 2nd time there, but I will be back

This bar rocks. Cool vibes, neat brews, friendly bartenders, and chill music. It’s kind of off the beaten path in Hoboken but is really is to get to if you live downtown. It’s a refreshing break from the Washington Street Bar Scene. It’s definitely our favorite bar in Hoboken. Can get loud at times when bands are jamming. But it’s allll goooooodddd.

Northern soul is a super hip and unpretentious bar nestled in the backwoods of Hoboken. It’s a bit off the beaten path but I highly suggest making the trek… you won’t regret it. The frequent live music and pool table always make for a fun night, and I’ve never seen a band here that let me down. The tap selection is pretty decent and last night when I came in I ended up going with a green flash IPA which was noiiiiiice and refreshing. The cover band was really talented and hilarious– their transition from 70’s soul music into top 40 hits was seamless, something that most can’t pull off that well. I could have listened to the old school Michael Jackson all night. Me and my friends had a sing along sesh the whole time which is usually how I want most of my nights to go. Enough about the band, just get to Northern Soul already! I dig this place and if you are into dive bars, craft beer and live music then you’ll probably share the same sentiment.

Cool place with a pool table, plenty of TV’s and $ 3 PBRs. Good for nice drinks, draft beers or just to pound an occasional PBR.

Good bar with live bands and tvs. It was nice to get away from the younger, sloppy, college-type, right off the train, kind of bars. This is still a good bar but not everyone up in each other’s personal space either like this other bars. Darts and pool table were cool but just annoying for a Saturday night crowd when there are more people. Nice atmosphere

This is our go to bar, and although a bit of a hike from our home, we like the vibe here and the live music. They get excellent bands however the sound production is not very good, often noisy which washes out any great vocals and amplified by the small space. Yet, at least they have live music, sadly missing in Hoboken, which is otherwise a very cool town. During the summer, the DarkSideoftheMoo truck is sometimes parked outside making for a nice spot to eat one’s burger with a cool refreshing beer.

I came out during a night we were doing kind of a bar crawl, so my experience was short. There were a lot of beers to choose from, but I did not see any food offerings. That worked just fine for me though. My biggest highlight — the pool table!

Whoa, @NorthernSoulBar, I heart you. Your unassuming location in #Hoboken. Your super friendly and super Irish bartenders that make me want to have one more. The fact that you have both pool(for $ 1) and darts. The fact that when I was here the other day at about 6pm there were 3 dudes drinking alone and when I left at 11pm it was filled with Unilocalers for an event, but also just a lot of bearded dudes… in Hoboken? The fact that when I talked to a group of regulars, they all gave this spot 5 stars while talking about their favorite Hoboken bar. The cocktail at $ 9 was a Ginger Mick: Jameson, ginger beer and simply syrup. It was delicious. Between Fireball shots and bud lights, I had a fun night. I like this place. A lot. It won’t be everyone’s cup of tea, but for those looking for a place to call home, this is one of those places. No frills, warm atmosphere and loving barkeeps. I wanted food and now know for next time to have something delivered since they don’t do food. I can’t wait to come back for their infamous Bloody Mary. Soon. Make sure to follow them on FB or check their website: they have open mic nights, live bands, djs, etc…

We recently moved to Hoboken and need to have a «go to» local bar within walking distance and thanks to our helpful, friendly Unilocal CM, we have found it! After attending a CMYE event here last night, we will definitely be back to Northern Soul often. It is a casual, laid back place with a good beer selection, a couple of dart boards and a pool table. The also have a few TVs showing the game but its definitely not a sports bar. Unlike places on Washington St, it clearly has a more mature crowd instead of the usual flock of 21 year old frat kids downtown. One other feature that makes it a winner is the fact that they are dog friendly so my pooch can now live her dream of going out drinking with her parents! The only thing keeping it from a fifth star is a lack of food but being minutes from home, its certainly not a problem. If you are looking for a place to toss one back away from the hustle and bustle of downtown Hoboken, Northern Soul is definitely the place!

Since I’ve recently moved into Hoboken, I’ve been trying to find the bars that I wouldn’t typically go to when I was crossing the Pulaski twice a night. A friend told me about Northern Soul and I decided to check it out on a Friday night. It was a good decision. Northern Soul isn’t like all the Irish Pubs and other typical Washington St bars, it’s a little bit hipster, but since it’s surrounded by Hoboken typical bars, Northern Soul seems like a CRAZY hipster bar. $ 3PBR cans, craft beers, pool tables, weird movies being played on a projection screen, odd nails around the bar to hang your jacket. It’s a little bit corky, but I’m completely down for it. I will definitely be back and probably will start my nights here or end my nights here. I haven’t decided yet, but only time will tell. If you’re looking for something a bit off the typical bar scene, Northern Soul can be that for you.

Yep, I’m gonna do it. I’m going to give this place 5 stars. We came in here on a snowy night when we couldn’t realistically get anywhere else(it’s very near my friend’s house in Hoboken). It doesn’t look like much from the outside, nor can you tell if it’s busy by looking in. This place is unpretentious, busy but chilled, fun and has a good mix of people. The Irish bartender(owner?) was super friendly and clearly has a memory like Einstein as he could remember pretty much every group’s individual orders. Weird thing to say here but the«normal» drinks in here are really good. I was drinking spiced rum and coke– it was just bloody well iced, mixed and lime juiced up. I’m English, I appreciate these things. I like that this bar has a pool table, darts, a cinema screen(randomly playing Gladiator when I was there) and it feels kind of like a San Fran dive bar. They also allow dogs in here, always a bonus(there were two just running around– look out for local pooch Napoleon) and it stays open pretty late(I think until 2 at least). I will return next time I’m in Hoboken. Love this place.

Northern Soul is very different from a lot of other bars in Hoboken. I’m a fan and I’ll definitely be back here again. For starters, it’s in the back of Hoboken so it doesn’t draw any of the spillover from the crowded bars downtown on Washington St. That’s an automatic +1 for this place. Additionally, the bartenders are really nice, another difference between Northern Soul and the bars downtown on Washington. Then again, that may be because they don’t have to deal with the same type of crowd. The place has pool, darts, and even some video game machines. It’s a good low key spot to hang out and enjoy some drinks with your friends. On some of the warmer afternoons, I’ve walked past here and I’ve seen people with their dogs in the bar, which is just awesome!

This town needs an ENEMA! Seriously it does. Hoboken has its pizza, baseball more pizza. Northern Soul is a great addition to the environment. Rumor has it this town has the most bars per capita in its one square mile than anywhere in the US. . Oh Snap! Is that Basquiat and Warhol painting on the walls? The Art here is rotating, and different styles and mediums. I am always a fan of business that promote upcoming artist. Randomly on Mondays is when the art openings happen here. There is open mics on Wednesday’s, Thursdays local bands. Friday/Saturday is when this place shines with rock, old school, hip hop, reggae, and 80s. I love it especially since it’s in my neighborhood. The place is much bigger than one would expect, pool tables hug the back. The front sits the eclectic mix of bartenders that are super friendly and ready to get you inebriated. Just come to this bar and chill out dance have a good time. Let’s face it NS is 100% fresh and unique soul to the bar scene in the ‘Boken
